  1. I wasn't what we call chili, but it hit the spot on a cold, snowy day.
  2. Wrong thread, but I was in Snowmass last week and the mountain restaurants had pretty good red chile beef stew with beans.
  3. I'm guessing I've made 100 pizza doughs over the last 10 years and every now and then I use 00 flour. I can never really tell the difference--they all turn out pretty good. I agree that the most important thing for good pizza dough is the long cold ferment.
  4. If you are a golfer and don’t mind hauling your clubs around, go play golf at Gus Wortham in Eado. My app says high of 59 on Thursday. Unless it’s too windy that’s about my favorite temperature for golf.
  5. Except for the texture thing and measuring, salt is salt. Julia Child covered this topic.
  6. I went to Truth for the first time today. Brisket and the plain sausage were about what I expected (which is very good). The boudin was way better than expected. Got there around 11:00 and we were seated with our food at 11:25. I live very close to Roegel's and, IMO, Truth is not so much better than Roegel's that I would go out of my way to eat there over Roegel's.
  7. It’s rare to see a skier or rider without a helmet. Safety concerns aside, I like the warmth it provides.
  8. Rachio fan here as well. Long story but I needed access to my neighbor’s controller and it had to be outside of his home so I could get to it. I replaced his old Hunter (no wifi) with a B-hyve and it’s a good outdoor unit.
  9. I had a fraternity brother in the early 80’s who was premed. He worked part time at what was then Brackenridge Hospital. He said you couldn’t imagine what some guys would stick up their asses. Lots of coke bottles and live animals.
  10. Aspen Highlands snowfall so far.
  11. I agree as to our vets. My comment was directed at the general civilian population when confronted by a crisis or extreme adversity. Unlike 1940-41 London, if bombs were falling around Houston on an extended basis there would not be any debutant parties. Among the death and destruction of the blitz (around 20k killed in London) the Brits . . . carried on.
  12. Supposed to get dumped on this week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. We and most of the western world are pussies compared to the way we were in the late 30’s and 40’s. Check out the recent book The Splendid and the Vile. The Brits, including Churchill’s daughter, were still going to debutante parties during the blitz. A bomb destroyed the venue of an after party, killing many, so they just went to another bar. 14. The recipe in Cook’em Horns, the cookbook published by the Texas Exes in 1981 is very good. Everyone here should own the book.
  15. 27 county SE Tex area still dropping in ICU and general hospitalizations. Of a population of over 9.5 million, 51 people were admitted to the hospital yesterday with suspected or confirmed Covid.
  16. Got the Moderna booster Monday after the Pfizer shots in late March 2021. Sore arm for two days. But not the low grade fever I had with the first two Pfizer shots. I did feel a little dizzy within 10 minutes of the shot and then it went away.
  17. Greater SE Texas numbers still improving. Only 40 new hospital admits in the last 24 hours. 9.5% of ICU patients are Covid or suspected Covid and 5.6% of general admission beds are Covid or suspected Covid.
  18. Any old guys like me that remember the Original Richmond Drive-In enchiladas? I grew up eating them. From the description of the Dart Bowl enchiladas they sound similar.
  19. I went yesterday and it was fantastic. Very well organized and Memorial Park Golf Course is an excellent venue. It’s a difficult course when it’s set up for a tour event. -10 ended up being the winning score.
  20. Aggies should be down by 30. They’ll come back and win this game.

They left a lot of loose ends. I hope there’s a season 2. Just about every character in the show made one shitty decision after another. Hard to fathom that the attractive daughter would throw away a potentially successful legal career and a nice husband to go back to her shitty hometown to take care of her grumpy father and screw her loser old boyfriend.
  22. Cap Cana is nice. I’ve been there twice and stayed in some very nice condos adjacent to the marina. There are some very good golf courses nearby. Second or third the nod to Presidente beer.
  23. I’m trying to go on Saturday. I saw Scheffler, Ancer and some other pros do a clinic yesterday at HCC. Ancer and some of the other pros are small guys yet they absolutely crush it. Fun to watch these guys hit balls from 15 feet away.
