  1. Lost the signal for about 90 minutes.
  2. Hook’em! Two Kinkaid kids and a Second Baptist kid on the final five. Very close.
  3. I intended it as a slight criticism. BoB is one of the greatest series ever made and I watch all episodes every Memorial Day weekend. It should be required viewing in public high schools. So should the first two episodes of John Adams to instruct our youth on the founding principles and the inherent nature of our rights.
  4. I agree with the Blythe episode. They also got it wrong with Blythe. He fully recovered and died much later in life.
  5. Dr. Denton Cooley would often say that except for smoking, it’s all about your genes. Smoking will kill you.
  6. My PIs are solos and I talk to them and no one else. Been doing that for 30+ years. While I’m not requesting anything illegal, when I’m using a PI it’s for something very sensitive and secretive. I also don’t push the discussions down to an associate unless the associate and the PI are well connected.
  7. I recall that. Switching a phone number wouldn’t work because the lawyer knows the PI and he wouldn’t do anything without actually talking to his long time trusted PI.
  8. My practice is not unlike Howard’s and I have several PI’s that I would go to. No way he would do a cold call. If nothing else, someone at HHM would have a dependable PI to recommend. No matter though, it’s still fun TV.
  9. I hope Lalo is tortured for about 12 hours before he is killed. He's one evil SOB.
  10. Blazing Saddles around the camp fire eating beans.
  11. When you want a semi homemade pizza but don’t have time to make the dough from scratch, the HEB par-cooked thin pizza crusts are quite good.
  12. The canton of Ticino is fabulous. Italian culture with Swiss benefits and without the baggage of Italy. Lugano is the Swiss version of Lake Como (it’s just over the border).
  13. Question for those with good crystal balls. I recently turned 59 1/2 and I rolled over my 401k into my IRA. The process required me to liquidate everything in my 401k (about 88% equity-based funds and 12% in what I call a cash equivalent fund). Luckily, everything sold last Wednesday the day before NASDAQ went down 3.75%. The funds will be in my IRA today or tomorrow. I'm not planning to retire for a while--late 60's maybe. I rarely trade my retirement accounts except for the occasional re-allocation so my historical approach is to go long and stay in high rated equity funds. Should I wait or get back in now?
  14. I’m 59 and term insurance is still cheap if you’re healthy. I pay a total of about $1800 per year for two one million term policies (one is a group policy at my firm and the other I purchased through an insurance guy). I’ll probably let one of them lapse in a few years. Mrs. HouTex will not go hungry if I kick the bucket in the next couple of years.
  15. I probably wouldn't make a special trip, but I was in Cleveland on business several years ago and I had an afternoon to kill so I went. It was worthwhile. The Springsteen exhibit was showing and it was very cool for a Springsteen fan. That said, with non-Rock and Roll acts getting in now I probably wouldn't go.
  16. I wasn't what we call chili, but it hit the spot on a cold, snowy day.
  17. Wrong thread, but I was in Snowmass last week and the mountain restaurants had pretty good red chile beef stew with beans.
  18. I'm guessing I've made 100 pizza doughs over the last 10 years and every now and then I use 00 flour. I can never really tell the difference--they all turn out pretty good. I agree that the most important thing for good pizza dough is the long cold ferment.
  19. If you are a golfer and don’t mind hauling your clubs around, go play golf at Gus Wortham in Eado. My app says high of 59 on Thursday. Unless it’s too windy that’s about my favorite temperature for golf.
  20. Except for the texture thing and measuring, salt is salt. Julia Child covered this topic.
  21. I went to Truth for the first time today. Brisket and the plain sausage were about what I expected (which is very good). The boudin was way better than expected. Got there around 11:00 and we were seated with our food at 11:25. I live very close to Roegel's and, IMO, Truth is not so much better than Roegel's that I would go out of my way to eat there over Roegel's.
  22. It’s rare to see a skier or rider without a helmet. Safety concerns aside, I like the warmth it provides.
  23. Rachio fan here as well. Long story but I needed access to my neighbor’s controller and it had to be outside of his home so I could get to it. I replaced his old Hunter (no wifi) with a B-hyve and it’s a good outdoor unit.
