  1. Wow, most runs we've scored since a 21-1 schlonging of the M's back in September 2019.
  2. Easy. That's Lt. Lois Einhorn, Miami-Dade Police Dept.
  3. Article today in CultureMap about the new Blood Bros cafe opening up at Stomping Grounds fairly soon. https://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/08-17-22-luloo-day-night-new-restaurant-blood-bros-bbq-bakery-robin-wong-alyssa-dole-quy-hoang-arash-kharat/
  4. For shits and giggles, it was 99 today in Houston, on August 17. Every single model/forecast calls for a weather pattern change starting with tomorrow's front, which should provide some cloud cover and rain chances most days for at least the next week, capping highs around 95 or less. Look, I'm not saying things are about to be good. There are plenty of uncomfortably hot days in early September, but it's very rare to have your hottest September days be hotter than your hottest August days. At this point in the planet's annual voyage, Texas is beginning to tilt away from the sun and is losing ~90 seconds of sunlight each day. Only a handful of times in the past 100 years have we recorded a temperature above 100 later than the first week of September. How many more days above today's high of 99 are you expecting next month?
  5. Hoping this place is good. Would love to have a legit NOLA cafe (BB's doesn't count). https://houston.eater.com/2022/8/16/23306868/lagniappe-kitchen-and-bar-new-houston-restaurant-opening-replaces-revival-market-openings
  6. Summer going out with a bang. Today should probably be the hottest day of the rest of 2022. This is also the last day of the year that Eastern portion of the state will see a sunset past 8:00 pm. I lived in an apartment back in 2011 and didn't really pay much attention to the weather back then, so can't really compare. Have we reached a consensus on whether this was the worst summer or 2nd runner up? It had to be the driest, right? Will start "cool front watch" in 4 weeks or so. September 15th is about the average first day each Fall where the low is 70 or less. October 3 for 65. October 18 for 60.
  7. Low temps go from 79 to 76. Brrrrrrr.
  8. DJIA has fallen like whoa all the way back above 34,000.
  9. Models are showing the high-pressure dome that has been parked over Texas all summer finally clearing out. Good news: This should generally increase rain chances and put an end to triple digit temps. Bad news: Forcefield that has put the kibosh on tropical disturbances all summer will no longer be active, just in time for hurricane season to kick off.
  10. Our 2 sleep on the couches in the living room. 1 to each couch. They only get to go upstairs and sleep in the bed if (a) extremely strong storm/fireworks or (b) wife is home alone.
  11. Wife and I tried Upside Pub on Thursday night. Food was good. Patty melt was very tasty and their latke balls are a unique appetizer you don't see on many menus.
  12. 13 games in the next 14 days, all against teams currently above .500. Time to shine.
  13. After a not terribly unpleasant weekend, the blastfurnace is firing back up for the next 72 hours. Just plain hot and dry, gonna feel like the depths of July again. Wednesday looks likely to be the hottest day of the remainder of 2022, with triple digits expected statewide. "Cooler" weather with improved rain chances returns on Thursday and is expected to stick around for a while.
  14. Some big redevelopments coming to the northern parts of the Heights. Looks like most of the 26th/27th block between Shepherd and Durham has been bought by a developer, with plans to build an 8-story apartment complex with street-level retail. RIP Throughgood Coffee. https://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/48383-heights-26th-8-story-multifamily-with-retail/ Also, construction is supposed to start next month on a new mixed-use building at corner of 19th and Yale (rendering below), where the old SandDollar thrift shop sits.
  15. Not a bad week: DJIA: Up 755 points, 2.23% S&P: Up 53 points, 1.24% NASDAQ: Up 181 point, 1.39% All 3 major indices at 3 1/2 month highs.
  16. Fare the well, Uncle Mike. That's most certainly a wrap on his time as an Astro, and decent chance on his MLB career as well. He'll be 36 next year coming off labral surgery (same one Myers is still apparently recovering from), has 14 seasons under his belt and has right at $100M in career earnings.
  17. 3 statutes apparently listed in the warrant: 18 USC 2071 — Concealment, removal or mutilation, generally 8 USC 793 — Gathering, transmitting, or losing defense information 18 USC 1519 — Destruction, alteration or falsification of records in Federal investigations
  18. Pena must have pissed in blue's cheerios. 2nd straight AB rang up on shit far out of the zone.
