  1. My wife was in Fayetteville a few weeks ago visiting one of her oldest and best friends who's lived there for several years. She's convinced that Fayetteville should be on our short list for retirement, assuming we can ever leave Austin. Not getting all cloak-roomy, but we're both pretty liberal, and when I told her my impression was that while Fayetteville and nearby Bentonville might be purple-ish the Arkansas state government was just as MAGA as Texas if not more. She says that's not the case. In any event, I'd like to visit the area. My step-daughter for the time being has Arkansas high on her list, so maybe we'll head there in the Spring for her first college visit.
  2. Eh, seems nitpicky. I'm not sure I really call myself a Democrat, but I don't have a problem with someone who consistently votes for and donates to Democratic candidates (like I do) calling themselves a Democrat.
  3. Yeah, freshman Colt had all of one start in his career, the prior week against North Texas. The Colt McCoy of later in that season with several more games under his belt might have pulled off a win, or at least made the game closer.
  4. My dad served in the Marines for 27 years and is a veteran of two wars. You'd think that after draft-dodging Trump's bullshit like calling John McCain and other vets losers for getting captured in combat and fucking up the VA would drive my old man away. But nope, he still thinks Trump is the answer our country needs. He's been a great father, and at 81 he's showing significant signs of dementia and I don't know how many more months or years I have with him. So I don't bust his balls about politics. But it's still really frustrating to see the father I love so much go all in on such a horrible human being.

  6. Unfortunately my dad is a full Trumper, but he learned a few years ago to not talk politics around us.
  7. Some folks even change their political affiliation much later in life. My mom for instance [South Austin’s mom joke No. 2,459 in 3,2,1]. She and my dad were Republicans as long as I remember, but my mom went full Democrat after voting for George W. Bush in 2000. She just couldn’t take the direction of that party.
  8. Wow, two pages already on this guy. Nice work, fellas.
  9. Yeah, I commented about The Heights kidnappings/murders on another thread a while ago. I think that’s way more haunting and fucked up than The Yogurt Shop Murders. It’s also another commentary on incompetent law enforcement, as Houston PD seemed to have largely written off the disappearances as runaways and never did much of any real investigation.
  10. Case in point - I identified as Republican as an undergraduate in the mid-1990s. It was all I really knew growing up Catholic and the son of a Marine who lived in small-town military bases my whole life. Edit: Oh, and I was an apathetic Republican, as I never even voted until the 2004 election (voted for Kerry over Bush). If there are Trump fans on our football team, I bet most of them didn't vote in this last election.
  11. Especially someone who lives in the Valley.
  12. Same. They help keep my blood pressure in check.
  13. Watched this yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've always been Billy Joel fan, and An Innocent Man was one of the first albums I bought as young kid with my own money. But I never took a dive into his life story. I didn't know he's been married four times, but it doesn't surprise me after watching this documentary and knowing more about his personality. He even owns up to it when he commented how his chosen lifestyle required a dedication to the music and performing to the detriment of almost everything else. It's also pretty apparent that he's been wrestling with this father's abandonment his whole life. And if you didn't appreciate it before, this show illustrates what a musical, lyrical, and vocal master that guy was.
  14. Does he post on Surly? If not, I don't come across any of his hot sports opinions.
  15. It’s like watching Picasso paint a nude.
  16. Found Graham’s texags sock.
  17. For some reason this made me think of Brisket.
  18. JD Vance has entered the chat.
  19. He also makes a tasty bundt cake.
  20. I would slam that Gender Sampler.
