  1. Too much teal in that Mercedes livery for my tastes. I know its a Petronas thing but Merc should tell them to go pound sand, it's not a racy color. Would look better if all the teal areas were done in red.
  2. Austin trash collection is seriously fucking with me. If I have a small item or small extra bag of garbage in the trash can, they always leave it or put it back in the can. I don't know how they actually empty the cans, I thought they use a mechanical arm that turns the can over and shakes everything out, but however they do it, is not fucking working. Today I had a small second bag on top of a kitchen-size bag underneath it. Somehow the large bag (on the bottom) is gone but the small bag of shit is still in the can. That's impossible unless one of their workers put it back in my can instead of throwing it in the truck. Do they have an official policy of refusing to collect trash in "nonstandard" bags or containers? If this was a one-off I wouldn't care, but it's happening almost every week now. Next time I'm going to stand on the fucking curb all day and scream at them "TAKE MY SHIT. TAKE IT ALL."
  3. It seems like teams that make the ball go in the hole a lot have more success. I think our guys should do that.
  4. I'm glad the state has good medical and pension, because otherwise I look back at my career (specifically salary and lack of regular COLA) and get really depressed about what I made/make compared to seemingly everyone else in this city (considering education, etc.). If you had told me 25 years ago what my salary would be in 2022, I'd probably say "hey that sounds OK" but back then I didn't know a house in Austin was going to cost a million fucking dollars (more or less).
  5. I don't know WTF happened at Ullrich, but if unclean water did enter the citywide distribution system, as was my understanding, how does me running my cold water taps for 1-5 minutes flush all that out? It seems like there could be a huge volume of potentially-tainted water still lingering in the system. Even if certain locations tested clean, how do we know whether those samples are representative of conditions along the whole system? Or should I just be quiet and have faith that our municipal leaders and institutions have really fixed it?
  6. Anything elevated (flyovers, upper decks, etc.) is probably iced, although they might be sanded by now. In my area (NE Austin) the neighborhood surface roads are still drivable but there are icy spots, Concrete sidewalks and driveways have ice & sleet. Anything still wet is likely to freeze as it gets colder tonight. It's really borderline and may even depend on the part of town (N. side, south, etc.).
  7. My back yard is basically a shallow pond. Maybe this thing will mostly rain itself out before the temperatures drop below freezing.
  8. I just got a robocall from "STATE OF TEXAS" telling me it's going to get cold, and recommending that travel be avoided. While listening, I was wondering if it was going to say anything about conserving power, but it did not. So we must be good to go.
  9. They should do a tie-in with GI Joe and have a live-action Cobra Commander mascot character.
  10. I thought the rain was past but it is just dumping now in NE Travis County
  11. This looks like a costume party, although damned if I understand the theme. If this photo is recent, who wears a "W '04" cap in 2022? Even a MAGA hat would make more sense.
  12. I still don't understand why the markets did so well over the pandemic when everything was obviously shitty and I don't understand why they are in a tailspin now. But I'm just trying to get myself in a position for retirement soon, and this isn't helping. In the immortal words of Oscar Rogers,
  13. In NE Austin, I haven't had a thorough rain (the kind that actually wets the soil) since one time in October. And I don't recall getting anything significant in September.
  14. Maybe it's just me but it seems like a shitload of games for us are not on broadcast or basic cable sports (only on LHN or ESPN+). Fucking pisses me off.
  15. I need to combine some large documents in Word and maintain the original formatting, headers, page numbering etc. and it's driving me fucking insane. Why can't Word just merge two separate documents into one while keeping all the shit the way it was? I swear this was easier with Word circa 1997 than it is with Word 2019.
  16. Yeah, WTF, I'm getting light rain mixed with tiny sleet
  17. Haven't been in a liquor store in a while, but what in god's name happened to whiskey? Fucking gimmicky, flavored shit is everywhere; peach, vanilla, honey, etc. That might be tolerable for something like a schnapps or a wine cooler, but whiskey? What reputable distiller of spirits would even entertain such an idea? The damage to your brand's reputation isn't worth whatever additional revenue it may bring in. Whiskey is supposed to taste like gasoline and charred wood, stop trying to fancy it up.
  18. I had to get a new PC with Windows 11, and it's been functionally OK but I'm not huge fan of the following (admittedly, mostly minor) things: > Had to create a Microsoft account to complete installation (there are workarounds easily found online, but the ones I tried failed for whatever reason.) > Right-click context menus only show you a few options (never the ones I need) and you have to click again on "show more options" to get the full menu to display. Rage. > Microsoft Edge has like 10 processes running even though I don't have it open. > Microsoft brought back Widgets but gives you no control over how to customize or kill the newsfeed part of it. More needless processes and bloat running in background. > Cosmetically, I think W11 is kind of ugly and toylike. I thought the same thing about W10. I liked the fancier desktop look of aero glass/Windows 7.
  19. Got boosted yesterday about noon (Moderna), late last night got really fatigued. Overnight and today sucked. Low fever, mild chills, aches & pains esp. in knees. Seems to be improving now though.
  20. How are the Broncos 4-4? Their defense stops everything cold and their offensive players never drop anything and get like 15 yards after contact every fucking time.
  21. I don't know exactly how much rain I got today but it was enough to demonstrate that my newly-replaced roof is leaking. I swear to $%&$# I want to strangle this roofer. (This is not the first problem; they did other shit badly that even though I know nothing about roofing, even I could see it wasn't right.)
  22. I don't know much about economics (I took Micro as an elective 30 years ago) but can you explain to me, in the simplest terms, how Fed policies make housing more expensive? When people buy homes, it seems to me that money is coming primarily from their wages, and in some cases inherited wealth. Have wages increased that much, and if so, is that really driven by the FR? Or do you mean the real estate market reacts to low interest rates by jacking up prices, because people buy based on monthly payment and not total cost?
  23. Cottage cheese. Specifically, the highly variable consistency of it. Even within a given brand like Borden's or HEB, sometimes it's a runny, soupy mess, and at other times it's a thick, congealed lump with the consistency of drywall mud.
  24. If they are successful, the "logical conclusion" is a quasi-fascist kleptocracy (think Putin's Russia) that can do whatever they want behind the cloak of the flag and the cross. They want to enrich themselves and their donors as much as possible, deconstruct American institutions or oversight mechanisms that might hinder their goals, and intimidate or eliminate marginalized groups. They want to ensure that whatever remains of American wealth is reserved for the right kind of people, and doesn't get "wasted" on government services or public assistance that the wrong kind of people depend on. They want to eliminate, destabilize, or at least "manage" the democratic process so they can continue to stay in power long after they lose the support of the majority.
  25. We had some big comebacks against OSU that probably weren't fun for them.
