  1. Why is it in science fiction movies or shows that whenever someone exits warp/wormholes/slipstream or whatever it is and ends up in an asteroid field that they have to race through there like they are in the Le Mans or something? Dude, slow down if nobody is chasing you. You're only gonna shave a few minutes off of your flight at the most. Also, good episode.
  2. Now let's just hold up a minute. Just what kinda hotness scale are we talking about? A thirty second one? A thirty day one? Or a thirty year one? In my experience, latinas have a heavy concentration in the shorter time frames and not so much the longer ones. Who am I kidding, though, really? I'm 36, but Salma Hayek is smoke and I'd love for her to be my sugar momma. Also, if you want to be taken seriously in a thread about movie stars on a sub-board about movies, you shouldn't brag about the fact that you barely know who she is.
  3. Add a couple thousand more and you can get a .45-70 Auto, which is basically a .45-70 with the rim turned down to make it a rimless cartridge that fits in an AR-10 platform.
  4. One of the big topics in our family when we get together for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc. is the family land. My grandfather and great grandfather bought it together after WWII. The folks who sold it to them told them they wouldn't be able to make the payments, but they did. My mom and her siblings have the mindset that family land isn't sold, and her brother has even bought up my great aunt's portion that has been mostly neglected for years. But I worry because they now have that portion along with the acreage that the old house sat on, and their kids are mostly detached from it all. I have one aunt without kids and she asked me if I would rather have money or the land. Stupid question. Anyhow, I hate to see the land get fragmented further and further with each generation. The plan right now is to find some way to set up some sort of trust or whatever so that everyone can use it, but it doesn't get split up.
  5. You can get cheap solar lights on amazon that have motion sensors. They serve as a good indicator of whether or not anything is under the feeder, and you don't really need a lot of light under there if you are using thermals or NV.
  6. I never played the games much, but I enjoyed it. I liked how they kicked the intensity up right at the beginning. The battle scene did feel very video gamey, but it was well done enough that it wasn't really a distraction.
  7. Or maybe just keep a cat handy to throw at the bear.
  8. As long as it goes away eventually it is still transitory. Or something like that.
  9. Not necessarily. https://www.ammoland.com/2020/03/update-handgun-or-pistol-against-bear-attack-93-cases-97-effective/#axzz7OGWKJYAz
  10. Also, several years ago we did a day hike up to the top of Emory Peak in Big Bend. We were coming down as the sun was going down with maybe a half an hour before sunset, and we passed a group of likely first time backpackers who had old school huge and heavy external frame packs with multiple gallons of water just swinging around hanging to their packs. All of their gear looked they got it from their parents. We felt bad for them, but hopefully their first permit was for one of the camping spots that was lower down.
  11. Shoot, we did The Narrows at Zion six years ago on July 4th weekend during our honeymoon, and there were people in flip flops multiple miles upstream. And that "hike" is basically wading upstream through the river with a few breaks of dry ground in between. I've hiked on dry ground with flip flops and a baby carrier on my back, but hiking in the water with a strong stream flowing against you is a whole different ballgame. I don't know how they did it, but I'm sure they regretted it.
  12. Most wisdom these days says that bear spray is effective at preventing bear attacks, but firearms are more effective at stopping them. The authors of the most cited studies have even come out and said that they are being misused.
  13. Look up the FGC-9. It only costs a few hundred bucks to make, but it does require a bit of work. Allegedly.
  14. These three things taken together makes me glad I don't live in any major urban areas. Might decide to take off work early, though...
  15. What percentage of workers have a schedule where they are at work from eight to five or whatever a standard work day is when you factor in lunch? I would think that most of those jobs are professional exempt type jobs that are probably more common here, but not really representative of the entire workforce. The people complaining most about permanent daylight savings seem to come off as the elites (self styled in some cases) complaining that those who don't have the same schedule they do are catching a break.
  16. I just realized, if Russia fancies themselves the Z's, that means they think they are fighting the Not-Z's. The markings make total sense.
  17. Home prices should come down once the boomers start moving to retirement homes and dieing off. Right now most of them still own homes, and the Millennials are hitting the home market as well. Two of the biggest generations in the market will lead to some scarcity. When one of them leaves it there will be a glut.
  18. Not to mention when you stay up until 1 am at deer camp sipping whiskey. With permanent daylight savings you get an extra hour of recovery time before you have to be in the blind sipping whiskey spiked coffee in the morning.
  19. I'll take the extra daylight in the evening. Should give me just enough time to swing by our family land after work while it's still shooting light come November.
  20. There is definitely value to having one parent staying at home with the kids. Having the kid or kids in daycare, and then both parents spending the evening doing chores just to keep the household running is exhausting. Plus, with the cost of childcare these days, it just isn't always financially worth it.
  21. Best modern one. But I'm still partial to my great grandad's Winchester Model 63.
