  1. Can we at least agree that pinch hitting Alvarez with first base open in Game 1 of the doubleheader was less than an ideal decision? In a single move Baker took the bats out of the hands of both a good contact hitter and the Astros' best hitter.
  2. Happened to stop on LHN the other day and caught a portion of a replay of an aggie game at DKR wherein they identified Hampton only as the guy that "comes in every now and then to give Chris Aiken a breather." Casey was just huffing and puffing after just a couple of plays, but I just wondered wtf ever happened to Chris Aiken?
  3. Even better. The rams are part of the logo for Shiner beer. The Shiner HS mascot is the Comanches. I guess they couldn't photoshop Buffalo Hump and Kicking Wolf next to him.
  4. Do you think any of this motion towards enlarging bases is at least partially motivated by a desire to cut down on collisions, particularly at first? What are the chances that someday we see MLB w/ two bases at first base, a la softball? One for the first baseman that's in fair territory and the other for the runner in foul territory -- on either side of the baseline. . . ridiculous, yes, but can you rule anything out these days?
  5. The shift is only "weighted" to address a hitter's tendencies. Right or left. If there's a high probability a hitter is going to pull the ball, why should an infielder not be allowed to at least attempt to take that away from that hitter? Punishing the shift is just as egregious and just putting your thumb on the scale of the offense because batters can't or won't adjust. It's akin to telling the corner infielders they can't guard the line because it might take away an extra base hit. If you're tired of seeing batters pound balls into the shift or potential hits being cut off by infielders playing up the middle or in shallow right field, blame the hitters that don't take advantage of the wide open spaces the defense is giving them.
  6. Why punish the defense and not the hitters that are incapable of hitting the ball the other way? This smacks of those years the NBA rigged games for scorers and the offense by not allowing teams to play zone defense. Force hitters to adapt and punish defenses for the shift.
  7. Jacob Melton Not surprising. OSU SBN site thinks the Astros got a steal.
  8. They talked mad shit non-stop AFTER the game too. All the way to the car it was how they'd "see us again" and would "destroy us in the championship game." I just laughed and told them not to hang their dreams on Texas being there. They had just lost to the worst team Mack Brown ever brought to Lincoln. The bitterness and hatred flowed like wine.
  9. Super! Then you'll have lots to talk about, huh?
  10. Same! She took her foot off the accelerator and my wife was completely over it. Tension was running high. The boy and I were about to move out.
  11. Daughter picked up her Gold Award, finally. Have now set her Eagle award ceremony for mid-August and she'll join a small group of young women with both Eagle and Gold. We are very proud of her.
  12. Just out of ICU and straight back home. Had a bad reaction to the anti-virals and could not keep any food or fluids down, which is apparently bad for Type II diabetics. Took about 48-hours to get my electrolytes straight and reverse what was a hardcore case of diabetic ketoacidosis. The "precautionary" measure is what almost did me in. Huge shoutout to my nurses in ICU, particularly the two Astros fans "behind enemy lines" that made certain I didn't miss Thursday's Yankees' game (and, remdesivir).
  13. You just can't say "Fuck the Yankees" enough.
  14. Until he misses his third meeting because he's afraid to show up for his job and face the public. On the news last night they said that after his third unexcused absence from a council meeting the remainder of the council can vote him off.
  15. Hopefully Tulowitzki recognizes USC is not the right opportunity. Any number of schools out there with pedigree and brighter horizons.
  16. This is so awful . . . i cannot watch this any longer. This is literally a shit show.
  17. This was released on twitter yesterday at 3:59 (CT) and immediately deleted...
  18. Started on "The Wire at 20" podcast. It's not great - not as great as I had hoped it would be - but there are enough nuggets to make it worth listening to if you have the time. David Simon says he made the show for viewers that sit on the edge of couch and pay attention, and that he didn't care if the rest of the viewers didn't get it.
  19. No offense, but Katie is the single best part of this thread to date. I could watch her massage herself for hours.
  20. there was an aught in the date, if that helps
