  1. No, the friend was a she. She came to the house. The ex is now on her 4th “serious” BF since divorce 4 years ago after almost 30 years of marriage. Menopause can jack you up it seems.
  2. When daughter was a freshmen or so in high school she was babysitting our neighbor's daughter. The neighbor's had several inside dogs. The dogs got into a fight and in the ensuing melee of getting the child out of the way my daughter got nipped on her hand. I am outside working in the yard and I see my daughter calmly walking down the street holding her hand up and walking with the kid. We come inside so that I can clean it up and inspect the wound. The wife (now ex) sees it and freaks out. This is early afternoon. Ex: She needs to go to the hospital. Me: She will be fine. Daughter: It is fine mom. Throughout the day the ex constantly tells me that I should take the daughter to the hospital. Finally, to appease, her I agree. Me: Ok, I will take her to the hospital. Let's go. Ex: I cannot go because I am going to have dinner with a friend. Me: OK, never mind. I will take her myself. Get to the hospital and they ask what happened. Tell them she was bitten by a dog. Great. Now the law has to come to make a report since it was a dog bite. They have to come from the neighboring town where it happened. A solid hour plus wait. The cop shows up. We know him. He is one of two cops in our town at the time. After explaining the event and telling him not to worry about anything. Cop: Doesn't look too bad. Your mom make you come up here? Daughter and I: Yes.. Cop: Well, good luck. After more waiting. The doc comes in and inspects it. Doc: Who cleaned up your bite and bandaged it? Me: I did. Doc: You did a good job. It will not require stitches are anything. I will just bandage it back up and you will be good to go as it is not too bad. He did give her a sling so that she could rest her arm in it. After several hours away we are finally on our way home. The daughter and I scheme a plan. When we finally get home the ex is back. The daughter walks in gingerly and is expressing a lot of pain and discomfort and is complaining about having to wear a sling for a minimum of a week. Wife sees this and freaks out. Ex: I knew it was bad since you have been gone so long and she is in obvious pain. Me: If you knew it was so bad why didn't you take her earlier or drop your plans and go with us? You didn't even call us while we were away to check on her. Ex: (no words) Daughter and I could not keep the charade up any longer because we began to laugh. Ex not happy.
  3. Perhaps your grandfather served with the Medical Officer that wore this uniform. He made it overseas in July 1944 and received a campaign star for Central Europe. He served in the Medical Detachment, 66th Armored Regiment, 2nd Armored Division.
  4. Depends on the height of the cubicles. The ones in our new complex will be about 4' high.
  5. But, but, but, they "promote" communication and collaboration!!!!!! (as everyone wears headphones for privacy and/or locks themselves into the "buzzword" meeting spaces alone). There are going to be a lot of empty spaces in the new building since moving forward many people will opt to work from home.
  6. In 2019 I spent 100 days on the road (domestically and internationally) mostly in front of customers and prospects. I really miss that aspect of my job. I have not been on a plane since March 5, 2020. All of my customer interface has been through Teams. I did make one driving trip to visit a mine just outside of Mesa, AZ late last summer. I have been working from home since March 2020. I have no intentions on going back to the office on a permanent basis. One of the major reasons is that we are building a new office complex that will predominately feature cubicles and doing away with offices. I have had a office with a door for 30 years! Few are happy about the new building.
  7. Some random pics of some people that I have seen in my travels. I wish that I had a sharper pic of these three guys in Ajmer, India. Taken with a iPhone from inside the car. Wi This group was riding on a flat bed trailer behind a semi going down the highway in northern India. Hitching a ride to Barranquilla, Colombia Solwezi, Zambia "Hollywood" in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia Macha Pichu locals Young fishermen in Casablanca Zourat, Mauritania International Airport
  8. I will stick with my Chevy Silverado 4WD
  9. I haz the confused? Where is the match?
  10. This is my biggest parking pet peeve as this is absolutely intentional.
  11. I know what it means. Keeping it to myself to remain immortal.
  12. We had a smoking area at my high school for students. Unfortunately it was where the buses dropped students off. As a freshman I rode the bus to school and had to walk the gauntlet of smokers to get into the school. Nothing like a lot of smoke inhalation early in the morning!
  13. Go to Zambia and you will experience a total lack of wildlife hardly even any birds either as they have all been killed off by the locals.
  14. Google elephant attacks in India in the Bankura area. There have been several.
  15. Sorry, but it is real. English newspapers exist in India.
  16. A few years ago I was in India on business visiting a mine site in a remote area. I took a late flight on a Thursday night from Mumbai to Kokatta arriving late at night. The next morning we took a several hour drive from Kolkatta to the mine offices for the meeting. As we get to the reception area we asked to see Mr. XXX. Receptionist: He is not here. Us: How is he not here? He knew that we were coming from a great distance away for this meeting. Receptionist: He is at the hospital. Us: OMG. Is he OK? Receptionist: He is fine. His sister is in the hospital. Us: Oh, OK. What happened? Receptionist: She was attacked by a wild elephant in the village last night. Me: For real? (incredulous that such things actually happen) Receptionist: Yes, here is a report of it in the newspaper. Me: May I make of copy of this? Me (to myself): No one is going to believe that I had a meeting canceled due to a rogue elephant attack. The news report is below (interesting wording and grammar): We ate lunch. Got back in the car and drove back to Kolkatta. Took a late flight back to Mumbai.
  17. Pics I took in Pilansburg Park in South Africa in February 2020.
  18. The Old Man and the Sea with Spencer Tracy. First time to watch and I have never read the book either. Clueless going into the movie. Am I supposed to enjoy the film?
  19. Travel within the Yellowstone and GTNP can be dicey that time of year so you will need to take into consideration road closures. I also believe that there are already some road closures within Yellowstone due to construction. My girlfriend and I went to Yellowstone and GTNP the latter part of October 2020. We drove up from east Texas since we both enjoy driving/riding and seeing the countryside along the way. We entered the park in the Northeast Entrance and stayed at Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel (no TV's) for several days while we explored the upper central and northern part of the park hitting the usual sites. We then transitioned to Jackson and stayed at the Rustic Inn Creekside Cabins on the north side of town. They are really nice with fire pits around the property and teepees for the kids to play in. Moving to this location allowed us to explore the southern part of Yellowstone and the GNP with ease. We did more hiking in GTNP than in Yellowstone. For me, Yellowstone has more "site seeing" stops that you get out and walk around and explore whereas GTNP requires getting out and doing some hikes around the lakes, etc. There are hikes in both parks that are suitable. Just carry bear spray. We were there between the "prime seasons" so the lodging rates were lower. Plus the crowds were not so big either. Downside of going out-of-season, coupled with Covid, is that some amenities are closed. Food service in the parks is limited. There are several nice restaurants in Jackson so there are no issues in finding food for the evening. For food going into the parks we stopped at the Creekside Market and Deli each morning to pick up sandwiches for lunch. They are fantastic. Keep checking local conditions for that time of year to help plan on how to visit all of the parks.
  20. I agree with this statement 100%. Though I do not hunt, I am not against hunting. I have just never seen the point except for shootings hogs.
  21. I am at the age (almost 55) where I have to start determining the fine line of staying active and over doing it. It doesn’t take much to irritate something so yes, I have almost “chronic aches” but I can usually attribute it to something. I know my body well enough to know if something just hurts or there is an injury. I have always been super active (mainly through physical sports) so turning it down a bit is trial and error.
  22. I find it irritating when a LEO drives below the speed limit in the left hand lane and cars are afraid to drive the speed limit in the right hand lane and not pass them therefore causing traffic to back up behind both of them.
