  1. After a mere 29 years, our toploader washer has burnt out, seized up, thrashed on the ground, died. My job in the family is to research new ones, but fuck that, I figured I'd hang out on Surly instead. We are looking for sturdy, simple, reliable, if such exists in this world of child-labor. 2 people, so bulk washing marathons are unlikely. I personally like the idea of a bucket and a stick, but that would have me sleeping under the deck.
  2. You got this. About bad numbers, I had that a few years back after a lifetime of being effortlessly healthy. Pissed me off. The cure for a lot of it is simple: walk about a mile a day. Half a mile if you're worn out, 2 miles if you're feelin frisky. Took about a month and then my numbers were respectable again. Probably won't get rid of cancer, but it will make your body hold up better under treatments. Plus I always figure they may run short of the good stuff and I wanna look like I'm a good bet to give it to. In any case, I wish you good results and a long life doing stuff you like.
  3. "Greasaibh" can either be "Y'all grease your ass" or "You, dear sir, do grease your ass, now please," to give you the illusion that your ass-greasing is optional.
  4. A month ago I was on a Zoom call to a group in Scotland, and when I took the laptop out on the deck they started hooting and hollering that they wanted to move here-- I think it was the first bright sunlight they'd seen in weeks.
  5. I thought it was the cast of Trainspotting.
  6. Russians are probably watching these videos plotting mayhem... against the civilians.
  7. You lost a putter, but saved your anoos. Grandfather knew what was up and protected you from beyond the grave.
  8. Can confirm that Valdosta Georgia is the scrap-craziest US town I know of. I've got friends from there that you could get to start a brawl by asking what their favorite color is, and then they'll nurse the grievance for a few years. Almost Florida Man, just a hike from the Sunshine State border. [I typed and then deleted specific details of Valdostan weirdness I experienced, because I figure there is a non-zero chance some self-Googler would find it, track me down, and make me into a skin suit.]
  9. I was all in for waiting until I could get the maximum. A couple of my recent ancestors made it to their late 90s and I always heard to plan like you'll make it to 100. But then I go visit my Mom at her assisted living, and she's happy but she is recovering from a broken leg and doesn't know what month it is. I'm like, dang, it'd be fun to take multiple vacations to Mexico City while I can still walk. What happened since is I keep pushing it back a month instead of starting it. Slothfullness. In a related matter, anybody know if Stage-4 Cancer will get you any disability? I am a really healthy cancer patient, but it seriously interferes with getting a real job.
  10. I dunno. Suppose they lay down some beats and let Hillary rap, Debbie Harry style?
  11. That woman has what my New-Jersey-born wife calls a "Pennsylvania shovel-face."
  12. I was thinking hybrid, as in Possum + Man.
  13. At 1:03 I suddenly started reminiscing about my 3rd grade Frito Bandito pencil eraser.
  14. I was thinking cartels uniting to re-annex Texas. This was a probing attack. Dishwasher sleeper cells are waiting for the go signal. Remain alert.
  15. It's not what you typed but it's what I heard.
  16. Heh. In the Army every non-combat specialty is an infantry replacement once people start dropping, but we don't tell them that when they enlist.
  17. Duh, easy-peasy. They should just turn Black for a while, like Trump says Kamala did.
  18. County by county, no. The Black Belt across the middle is solid blue. The inner Birmingham metro is blue too. Once in a blue (haha) moon Huntsville or Mobile might wiggle blue-ish, but don't bet the farm on it.
  19. Am I mistaken, or was Vance a Corporal simply because the Marine Corps doesn't have a Spec 4 rank? The Army has both, so a Spec 4 would be in an office typing up press releases, and a Corporal would be out commanding troops and doing War shit. Spec 4s can do war shit too, but they are not considered NCOs. When I was a Spec 4 I called the rank "High Private."
  20. Welcome to my county, Jefferson County, a reliable light blue county. No idea what the usual split is in Vestavia, but it's one of those places where they read books and wear shoes, so there are probably more than a few non-Magas. Now, if you see Kamala signs in Pelham, Alabaster, or, God Help Us, Bibb County*, that's when you bet the baby's new shoes on Alabama flipping. *In Bibb Co. signs will no doubt be surrounded by decorative wreaths of tiny Confederate flags.
  21. Not to mention letting them get farther from their railheads inside Ukraine.
  22. He never watched Rocky.
  23. Maybe she was the woman in the first photo.
  24. You can tell which trailer is hers by her boyfriend's shit burning in the yard.
  25. Maybe the tip of his tongue is rotting away.
