  1. Any details on closed scrimmage loss to LSU? 67-62 score with LSU down by 4 at half per LSU boards. And no Roach correct.
  2. I tend to think of songs standing on its own ground, but this one kicks me in the gut and reminds me of the movie. " frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  3. So the disappearance of the 6-8 Germans while spending time in a foreign country is not going to raise any questions from their relatives? And they are not going to involve the German government to find out what happened to their boys?
  4. I agree that I’d rather have Coleman as leader but they showed those timeouts in crucial moments last year with DO talking to the team like he was a coach or captain.
  5. So the question on the table was whether he is fat and lazy. Losing 20 lbs may not counter the first part but does the second part in my opinion.
  6. Are you talking full, 3/4 or half? Who protects the rim when there is a breakdown? I agree at times and depending on the opponent. On offense, I'd like to see solid picks and effective rolls and not the half-hearted crap from last year. This goes for off the ball screens too. Do this and we'll have better spacing. We should have better ball security with three point guards, but that's never been a point of emphasis with Shaka. The key will be the last three minutes of the game and can we score when the game gets ugly. Better FT shooting will go a long way here and some effective bigs may sit out. Hepa could be instrumental here if he is an effective FT shooter. Use the nonconference to get better and build a rhythm because conference teams will have scouted all the weaknesses and tendencies and Texas better be ready.
  7. And thanks to all who sent the updates.
  8. Damn CT for an over the rainbow fan you sure did take a shit on DO. If reports are true that he did lose 20 pounds in the offseason, maybe he's gained some maturity and discipline while losing the lbs. I didn't like what I saw of his basketball IQ last season, but maybe he can learn not to bite on every fake and learn to play positional defensive. Regardless of the criticisms, he did average 13 and 7 last year. I think his range is only about 18 feet and he shouldn't take threes unless he has worked on his range. Having lost lbs at least makes him not fat and if he's worked on his game then that would make him not lazy.
  9. Juliet Naked - Would have been better if Linklater directed it. Has Linklater directed a Hornby novel, before? Margin Call - watched to commemorate the ten year anniversary of the recession and this is still a great movie. Standouts all, but especially Irons. Loved that he picked up the lion doll when talking to Moore.
  10. Question is who does Shaka trust? Shaka is big on his players making decisions on the court. A lot of time at Texas that has lead to fucking up at end of game situations. He obviously trusts Coleman. Does he have more players this year he trusts over prior years? Yeah, that's why I'm excited to see the team. Does the team have holes? Yeah, big ones like being able to shoot and defend especially the rim. If Shaka is a student of the NBA game, then I hope he sees what Utah is doing with a poor shooting secondary point man. See Rubio section in Lowe's espn article. Ramey can do that. I don't really give a fuck about the last three years, it's all about now. Can Shaka and the team do it this year? By doing it, I mean play good, smart ball.
  11. Leonard Cohen and Richard Thompson belong as nominees. And although I rated him as middling talent, I was blown away when I found out John Denver wrote Leaving on a Jet Plane.
  12. Ramey in the starting lineup is a surprise. Will have to see if rothsteins projection is correct. Ramey is going in to a better situation than Coleman last year as he won’t have to do heavy liftin at pg. agree with rothstein tha finishing 6th or worse would be a huge disappointment. Still see ku KSU and wva as top three.
  13. Nothing says Texas like wanting to fire the coach before the season begins. The arguments put forth for wanting to fire SS are as tired as listening to a Partridge Family record. The counterargument is not any more appealing. Come up with some new insights if you are going to tackle this topic, or better yet save it for when they play a fucking game.

    Great Quotes

Life is a sucking swirling ebb of despair. (barfly) Success leads to the greatest failure, which is arrogance and pride. Failure can lead to the greatest success, which is humility and learning. (David Brooks)
  16. Sorry to Bother You. What a weird ass and ambitious film. I can see where some likened it as a companion to Idiocracy, but where Idiocracy was logical in its vacuity, this movie was more traditional, villainous, problematic and at times reflective. Certainly not a film with a lcd.
  17. And yet, I enjoy reading these type of articles, because I'll take the excitement of having an Andrew Jones or Daniel Gibson any day. And I don't really care about the Mike Williams or Dion Dowells, because nothing is promised and the disappointment belongs to them and not me. Nothing more disappointed me than PSJ losing in the final. Not because I was a UH fan, but because I played against most of those guys in high school and they were a representation of me and the quality of basketball then. And I'd agree with you on loathing the multiple articles overstating the promise of our players, but I haven't found any besides this one and the two related ones. We ain't KU or Duke or UT football--frankly in the grand scheme of things no one gives a shit about the program. Check out how many fans show up at home games. Check out how many articles on UT basketball there are in the pay sites. Frankly, I am joyful when an article comes along. It beats looking at my own dick.
  18. Missed this article. I was high on Ramey having a significant role and this article doesn't dissuade me. Perimeter touch, playmaking will allow Texas PG Courtney Ramey to cement role in rotation "He’s really shot the ball well in our skill workout; probably better than any of our other guards. His work ethic has been terrific,” Smart said of Ramey, adding that he was in the gym at 6:00 a.m. ahead of a 6:45 a.m. workout"
  19. Hope this works out as Richards two years ago was spotted on a ODP team from Alabama by a DA coach (Houston Texans). He played part of year on HT's U16 team before moving to U18s. U18s then won DA championship for 17. Two best players left HT to play for FCD DA's for 17-18. ODP to non-MLS DA to MLS DA to Germany. Let's keep the pathways open. http://www.americansoccernow.com/articles/fc-dallas-homegrown-chris-richards-aiming-high-on-loan-at-bayern-s-u-19s
  20. 1. I think best will be Roach, but most important will be Coleman and that is because I expect the ball to be in his hands for the majority of the offense. 2. Coleman. If Texas has a lead or is tied then I'd like to see Coleman with the ball in the last three minutes. If behind then I want to see tremendous defensive pressure. 3. Sims would be the likely candidate, but I'm holding out hope on Febres. 4. Hepa, Long and Ramey are who I'm counting on with possibility that Hayes gets minutes due to foul trouble with Sims. I'm interested in seeing how Liddell does in pre-conference games and whether he'll be effective. 5. I doubt KU, WVU and KSU make many adjustments when facing Texas. They are what they are. Still thinking about the others.
  21. Who will be Texas' best player next year? Who will be Texas' best player in the last three minutes of the game? Of the returning players, who will have made the greatest improvement? How many (and who) of the new players will have significant playing time? How will B12 coaches attack and defend this Texas team?
  22. You anti-sandbaggin' mfer. May the undertow take you for a ride.
  23. Have been listening to the Bennett podcast American Fiasco and what is the difference between the players on the American team that played in the Copa in 1996 versus the players on the American team that played in the Copa in 2016? The 96 team made it to the semis in Uruguay and the 16 team made it to the quarters in the US. The 96 team would go on to finish last in the WC and the 16 team would fail to qualify for the WC. Was the 96 players' quality better? Were they less entitled? Were they better coached? They surely didn't come from a soccer culture. And the few that did were no more than the Germericans on the 16 team. The 96 players had confidence borne from adversity while the 16 players had confidence borne from coddling and ego stroking. My kid played futsal for a number of years and he was just an average player who played hard all the time. But there were futsal kids who were treated like royalty by the staff and dominated the local scene. Then there was a tournament where the house team played a Brazilian team and all the stud players on the house team acted like shrinking violets and the strivers looked just fine. Very disappointing, but those kids got to see how far away they were from real futsal players. The house team played some more Brazilian teams in the next few years and they began to compete and win a few games. The advantage of the young players going to Europe or elsewhere is the challenge of going against better players. Talented youth players need to play up. If it's too easy then go to a level where it's harder. Not every one is cut out for it being harder. Heard a story of two players going to Europe together and while one was considered a higher quality player, he went home after six months while the other one stayed. This one learned the language and started to get more success on the field. The one who went home is best player on a semi-pro summer league team, but no where near where he should be.
