  1. I’ve heard it’s possible but never seen it myself. We probably get 3.5 eggs per day with our 4. We got 3 per day with 3 hens with our last “flock” (pets). This round of birds are not nearly as consistent about laying location as the last, so it’s a mini Easter egg hunt every day for our kids. We thought we ate a lot of eggs until we started constantly getting 2-2.5 dozen a week.
  2. So I found an event at Brazosport college that was for k-12. It’s part competition (they have a few prizes ranging $500-1000) and part youth outreach/tryout. She had to learn a longer and more difficult piece than she’s done in the past and only had about 2.5 weeks to do it (op 35 concerto). She put in a lot of hours and it was cool on my end to see how much better she was from day compared to day 18ish. All the others were in high school and she didn’t win, but she did get selected to play with the college orchestra in March. She and a few of the high school students will practice 1-2 times a week with the symphony for the next 8 weeks and then play in the concert. She had fun and is really excited about it. We also got to meet the director and a few people that might work out as private instructors in the area. She also decided to do clarinet in band at the new school so I go to pick up the rental this evening.
  3. We only have 4 hens but we are overflowing with eggs. My kids talk about opening a stand to sell eggs (and random other herbs/veggies like basil or onions). They do their stands and have fun, but I’ve also been trying to teach them about real $/h - how long did you spend planting that onion? How much did we spend on chicken feed? How long did you sit and wait to make that $3 sale? They have finally come around to farming is very hard to be profitable and should be more of a personal enjoyment thing, but egg prices keep going and we may have to revisit that math.
  4. I think you fucked the title up a bit.
  5. I feel like he’s not even really autistic and that’s just a story (lie) getting trotted out to try to excuse his behavior.
  6. You could have bought a real horse for that.
  7. I’m old enough now i first interpreted it as the person was just waking up at 4am.
  8. Yeah but baboons and leopards are more or less the same weight class. That bear is going to be 2x to 3x the weight of the lion or gorilla.
  9. I drove from Brazoria to La Porte at 10 AM this morning. 288 to bw8 to fairmont. Lanes were mostly clear, l ice still on the sides, a few places in the lane closest to the center had some ice. The merge from 288 to bw8 was the only place I had regrets. Was the weirdest drive I’ve ever had in Houston with all the white everywhere. I left work about 630p. Roads were clear except an ice cube or 2 against the medians. I don’t know where you’re looking, but Houston doesn’t show to get below 33. And most of the roads are clear, so even if the temp gets low there isn’t anything to turn to ice.
  10. Tonight is supposed to be colder, but it should be sunny and above freezing before noon in most of Houston and south of it. Highs in the 40s and sunny. Most roads should be good by around noon
  11. On top of that, buy futures in companies producing caustic. And those that can dispose of sodium carbonate. I assume they are going to find a way to clean up the waste water because this will use a metric ultra shit ton of water
  12. Hello neighbor. We got more than I’ve seen in SE Texas before here, but yeah I think it missed us just a hair to the east.
  13. Temps supposed to get back in to upper teens. Any chance this puts a dent in the fire ant population?
  14. Kids had some fun and are warming up now getting ready for round 2 of playing. Sheep said they moved to Texas to get away from this.
  15. If it’s going to be 9 degrees and several inches of snow in Houston they better dust off those mobile crematoriums from Covid.
  16. Holy shit, it seems amazing we got 43 starts out of Sam. If someone and asked me to guess I would have said Ewers surely played at least 10 more games. Also makes me feel old.
  17. No real backstory. Just a high ranking redshirt
  18. My son, now 10, is very literal. You have to be careful how you give him instructions. When he was 4 (maybe 5?), and had been to the beach many times and peed while swimming, he said he had to pee as we were getting ready to leave. I said “go pee in the water.” He proceeded to walk to the edge of the water, pulled his pants down, and peed in the water in front of everyone. Fortunately it was just Galveston and didn’t even crack the top 100 inappropriate things that day.
  19. Thank you for all the responses. My goal is just to encourage her in a way she can keep learning because she enjoys it. There is a small college around here, so it sounds like reaching out to them and her band teacher may be the best route
  20. My daughter has always liked playing instruments, and we’ve encouraged it. In 6th grade the school we were at had an orchestra and she started playing violin. She’s continued this year in 7th grade and enjoys it. She can listen to songs on the radio and convert them to her violin. She’s dabbled a little in writing her own song for the piano with her teachers help. We have just moved, and she’s going from a science magnet with orchestra to a school that is smaller and more similar to what I grew up with. It will require a bit more student/parent outside of school work. She’s going to have to switch instruments, but she’s excited about that because she’s wanted to learn clarinet. I know nothing about music. I see all these books about music theory, and I even see they offer classes on it at some of the fancier high schools. She loves to read also. Is there anything anyone would recommend for her age level? Or even any YouTube instruction videos? I just have no idea where to begin and don’t want waste her time with something that is frustratingly advanced or just poorly put together.
  21. Original pirate you mean Jod? He was in the supervisors tower, and I’m sure he escaped The setup and line “so which are you lying about” was great
