This is the only explanation I’d add to them just bring the more successful program. I don’t mean this in the same way we say it about Baylor or Tech, but Oklahoma seems to have the intensity/aggression edge more often than not. They just seem to care about the game a little more than Texas does. Again, that’s not an excuse. Envy, if anything.

Oklahoma is a more successful football program than Texas, certainly for most of that time period, so you would expect a losing record. I don’t think it’s necessarily more complicated than that.

They definitely didn’t. The tempo three and out and blocked punt was a comedy of errors. They dropped a walk in TD pass. And I need to rewatch for clarity but it sounds like they were caught with their pants down on the 4th and 4 on the final Texas possession and Sark just didn’t capitalize. They played better than Texas but they can and will likely play better in a hypothetical rematch. There were very few, if any moments, where you were just thinking “Wow, superhuman play there.” Some good luck for sure but they weren’t some majorly inferior opponent out there playing their perfect game.

But they did trot out their RB to play QB lol I mean I think the assumption is most posters are older than like 13 lol I didn’t say it doesn’t count in a literal sense, I just see it thrown around like it’s a big time coaching achievement. It was a great day, a ton of fun, and I’ll remember it forever. That’s of course the most important thing as a fan. But in evaluation of Sark as a coach at Texas or in this series it’s not relevant for obvious reasons. Dropping this now. It isn’t worth a rabbit hole.

Look I’m not full doom and gloom about this game but can we stop including 49-0 as some sort of big achievement? OU literally had no QB. It was a great day, a lot of fun, and cathartic, at least until yesterday; but Jeff Banks’s monkey could have coached the team to a win. Sark is 0-2 in actual football games against OU and has produced two losses that will be shown in OU highlight videos 30 years from now. It’s fair to question whether he is equipped to handle this game. It’s not going to be litigated again for a year so I don’t want to beat it to death but the early data points aren’t great.

Thank god for that. A lot easier to do something else and forget about it when it’s 75 degrees and dry as opposed to 90s and humid (this was applicable postgame at the fair too).

Yep. I wouldn’t normally defend the “run it right at them, who gives a fuck if they know it’s coming” approach, but in that situation, in that game, I understand and even agree with it. I’d probably have gone with a different call on third down after the jumbo set wasn’t getting it done but frankly pushing it over the line has psychological value beyond the 7 points.
  8. Well said. I shouldn’t be sitting here irritated by a football game the next morning but here I am. I think what is frustrating is OU is more or less who I thought they were. They are a good but flawed team and Texas no doubt has the better top to bottom roster. I tried to let logic rule and picked Texas leading up to the game despite having a gut feeling they would show up get outplayed. Not even scoring, but simply not throwing a horrible INT on play 2 and just being able to get a couple first downs and punt on the first drive is one of many things that could have changed the game. And I agree with you on calls like the fake punt - that was one of a few where our reaction was basically “Great call, don’t think they wanted to have to play that card this early.” I did not expect to be thoroughly out coached though, maybe that’s on me; that’s just a reminder that whatever you think the team’s ceiling is, you’ve got to pay the Sark tax and take a couple L’s in winnable games. Unfortunately that came due in the one game that can still cause a prolonged negative feeling. If this had happened against Bama I’d have shrugged.

Badly. The perception on this site is Venables is a simpleton, the village idiot. Not sure what that says about Sark. Woof. Today was brutal from a coaching standpoint.
  10. Definitively, OU was the better prepared and coached team; and they played harder and executed better. Texas played and coached an uninspiring game for the most part, and was only even in the game because of OU’s own coaching and execution errors (the hurry up 3 and out and then failing to protect the punt in an insipid rush situation was hysterical). Texas essentially handed OU 7 points with an interception into triple coverage on the second play of the game. Texas also had first and goal at the one and failed punch it in. That’s finding a way to lose. The officiating was not good, culminating in that insane red zone PI call on the last drive, but frankly you deserve what you get when you do things like that. I still think Texas is probably the better team on balance and would win 6-7 of 10 but man if 0 points on four tries from the 1 doesn’t say it all about this game. It was a weird one that will take a while to process and will be a defining moment of this season.
  11. My understanding is they are pretty generous with financial aid for out of state students with decent records. I know a couple guys my age (~30) that went there for free. LSU has an enrollment problem and looks to Texas kids to fill up.
  12. If SEC Rant be for us, who can be against us?
  13. JT Sanders is not only worth 17 points but also takes 10 off the board for the opponent? TIL JT Sanders is the greatest player in the history of football.
  14. I kind of see it that way too. Texas is already prone to some slow starts, hasn’t played an 11am kick yet this year, and I think Venables’s only real option on defense is to bring pressure frequently. He will do so in ways Texas hasn’t seen early on which could confuse the OL. Conversely, I like the Texas defense in this matchup. They don’t have to commit a bunch of resources to defending the run. They will get interior pressure and make Gabriel uncomfortable. I am thinking it’s a bit of a rock fight. OU hits a few throws over the top but Texas is too much on the LOS over four quarters. Texas: 24 Worthless Fucking Meth Heads: 20 Texas rushing yards: 158
  15. Almost 90% of snaps in 11/12 packages and kinda sucking against a light box (admittedly small sample size) is a little odd. I suppose that’s probably a function of a lot of lighter boxes being obvious passing downs behind the chains.
  16. As the forecast stands now I don’t think wind will be much of a factor. 10mph is a normal breeze in Dallas and gusts aren’t even projected to hit 20mph during the day (it will be windier overnight).
  17. Yeah, I don’t know if this is realistic but those calls should be made.
  18. Have you tired buying tickets on the Texas side?
  19. I’d probably take Stutsman over Gbenda and I might take their safeties. Certainly Billy Bowman. But yeah, Texas really had advantages all across the field.
  20. Gabriel better than Quinn is defensible in that the former probably is better for the veer and shoot. Gabriel is better throwing the deep ball and that offense is highly reliant on it. In an offense like Sark’s (although he has curtailed the deep shots to fit Quinn’s strengths) where there is also a lot of value on quick delivery of short and intermediate throws, including opposite hash outs and crosses, I think Ewers is better suited. We all know who will go higher in the NFL draft. The rest of that is dumb. Quinn can panic under pressure a bit but his passer rating when pressured is quite good and has shown the ability to adjust and improve over the course of a game this year. The no arm talent thing makes me worry about CTE.
  21. This. A big reason I originally got season tickets through the young alumni deal was subsidizing OU tickets. Hitting a couple home games and selling the rest would come out ahead of getting price gouged in Dallas and still attending a couple home games. Now I earn more and keep them out of habit and convenience but the numbers generally don’t work like they used to, even though selling home tickets does better now.
  22. Charlie Strong dominated a much better OU team in his second so I vote for another analogy this particular week.
  23. $200. Some bullshit honestly. The price on these has skyrocketed in the last 3-5 years. But of course I pay it.
