  1. Agreed. Oddly satisfying without being particularly good.
  2. You need the vaccine. 100 Club sticker. That and my wife calls our police chief “uncle.”
  3. Which is why if a D gets nominated for speaker the whole Dem caucus need to vote nay. Don’t let the Rs punt.
  4. What’s the best BBQ in sugarland and Spring?
  5. Summer of ‘90-Spring of ‘95. I took a keg into Brooks hall during summer school but was never caught. I too spent all my time on double secret probation, mainly because of pesky Waco cops and MIPs. I finally had to pick a major and graduate after my ancestors got tired of cutting tuition checks. Typing all this out and thinking back to all my near disasters - there was clearly something wrong with me. Thank God we have a thread for that! Back to the topic at hand, Pat Green just headlined our foundation fundraiser benefiting, among others, the sober living facility on whose board of directors I serve. I’ve seen U2 twice and would spring for tickets at the Sphere in a heartbeat if I didn’t have to fly there for the occasion. Edit: ok those prices are a little rich for me, too. I’d tap out at $700 or so.
  6. When I arrived at Baylor, room 125 Penland hall, I was angry and rebellious. My parents had just announced their divorce, and I wasn’t down with being a good boy. My roommate and I went to Bill’s in Dallas or Plano or somewhere and found posters, and I put this one dead center. I think I had to censor it because nobody made me take it down. He had “She sells sanctuary” by the Cult on his wall. Good times.
  7. The problem with LSU is that it’s an hour from New Orleans. I would have died young.
  8. That’s awesome. Why is clapping in ASL not, well, just clapping? I’m not sure why this bugs me so much but it does. Am I ableist?
  9. Just talked to one of my engineers who had his roof and car damaged by a hailstorm last week in north Austin. Accordingly, roofing companies are coming out of the woodwork. Any recommendations on roofing companies? Paging @rotflbox?
  10. That was an awesome video. He restated something that I once heard from an AA podium which is arrogance and self loathing are just opposite sides of the coin called self centeredness. A few weeks back I was stuck - delayed - in an airport while my AA friend drew his last breaths. I had the audacity to get a little aggravated that this caused me to miss a last minute trip to the hospital to say goodbye. OTOH, it gave me a chance to text quite a few of our friends who did make it up there so he he didn’t die alone. As I sat with the 150 or so mourners at his funeral, I laughed at me. Suffering prompts change is a damned good reminder of how sick I can become. Also saw a guy last night who has 21 days sober, has already found a home group and a sponsor. God has him right where he’s supposed to be. As I said goodbye I marveled at how my “worry” is pointless.
  11. Agreed, but it’s national money flowing in. Strange things could happen. Had a long talk with his uncle yesterday, but we discuss family stuff, not politics.
  12. I’m getting weekly mailers now from national and state GOP PACs about how Dade must go. He is getting primaried hard.
  13. I’d sell my soul to be young again
  14. Pivot to strategic communications and media planning. Nobody from that school is an actual journalist anymore.
  15. My daughter did this at Mizzou. Honors program, OOS tuition offset by scholarships and she established residence for years 2-4 Graduated honors program from the J school in strat com Magna Cum Laude. Seems like 1/3 of Mizzou is from Dallas, another 1/3 from Chicago, which is where she lives now. She’s crushing it. One other thing - she bartended/worked in bar/grill jobs all 4 years, so her social intelligence is off the map excellent. She knows how to read people very well. My son’s first W2 came after graduation from Uncle Sam and he has trouble relating to civilians.
  16. Indeed that was pretty cool. That's gotta be more fun than any carnival ride ever. She can honestly say she knows how a home run baseball feels as it leaves the infield.
  17. Yeah. And Pink and Brandi just sang “nothing compares 2U” as a duet. I've never been in a venue where the women outnumber the men 20:1.
  18. Ok fuck, Brandi Carlile is good. Had no idea Shooter is her keyboardist and producer. All I know is I got roped into taking my wife to Pink for her birthday but damned.
  19. Last few posts are correct. Have spent a few HSFB halftimes looking for my kiddo.
  20. Current location. May frame it for the wife.
  21. Brisket nailed it. I'm spending the next 4 days with 250 recovering alcoholics at a lakeside church camp. 62nd annual event, my 11th time. My service commitment is to coordinate the servers for the cafeteria, which traditionally has been 1st year attendees. Gets them out of self and into meeting new people. Some of the most interesting people I'll ever know. Heck of a cool golf tournament tomorrow. “The good news is that you never have to feel that way again. The bad news is we're your new best friends.” I can't wait to find the greenest newcomer and hear all about how he ended up with us. Alcoholism is by far the best thing that ever happened to me.
  22. My little league team (Cardinals) was always 2nd to the Angels. I fucking hated that team. They had a pitcher I couldn't hit, and his dad was their coach. The kid was friendly, but his dad was a raging asshole baseball dad. We beat them once, and I remember hitting a line drive RBI off 1st base that dribbled into short right field but off a different pitcher. About 14 years later, I was in a business lunch at a restaurant when I noticed an MLB game on the bar TV. IIRC I was talking to a coworker or client when I saw that pitcher’s name come up on the screen as he walked to the batter’s box (he had a few years as a MLB 2nd baseman) and I screamed “Thats the motherfucker who struck me out!!!!!” and laughed maniacally. It was as if my whole Little League career had been suddenly vindicated. 12 year old me just thought he sucked at baseball. CSB one of my oldest friends is married to Mark Petkovsek and he taught my son how to throw.
