  1. I mean it's impressive how quickly he saw that couch up there and made a beeline for some sexy time in front of God and country.
  2. This plays a big role as well. We all eventually get dated and settle into quoting the movies we grew up with or saw as young adults. It happens. Every generation will go through it and every single one will think there are no more good movies of their favorite genre because the style and delivery has changed. I’ll watch just about anything, but when I am incredulous about something I still fall back on are “You Serious Clark?” instead of something more modern.
  3. Well I say this about any movie and I think it will always hold true. We all like different movies and sometimes a movie that can be pretty popular may just fall flat with one of us. I said I did not enjoy the Superman movies I saw growing up and I know that some people found that to be odd. The only way I can say that might help you connect with the movie is to think that you're seeing a Polynesian Jew playing Hitler and that much of the movie revolves around the imagination of a child. I watched it from that perspective. I know I mentioned this years ago in the thread about the movie and that I got to hear Taika Waititi speak about the movie. AMC had this thing on opening night and it had some screenings at the UWS location by Lincoln Square with a sign saying Q&A. I asked about it and was told that someone associated with the movie would come out and talk about it after it was done. They had a screening the next morning for a Q&A of the movie so I got really lucky and the AMC app finally showed an open seat for it in the front row. At the end of the movie we are all surprised to see that it was Taika who came out to answer questions for 30 minutes. One random guy yelled out "Heil Hitler" (Recurring theme in the movie, especially with the Heil Hitlering scene later on in the movie with Stephen Merchant playing an SS agent) and Taika's like "Wasn't expecting that this morning!" I still have 15 minutes of video on my phone I took from that. He explained that he did the movie to warn about nazis and that they were again on the rise and that he was, in his words, "I should have to be making a movie warning people about nazis 75 f****** years later, but here we are." Again not everyone likes every movie and I think that's normal. This one just really hit home with me for several reasons, especially because my Oma was six years old when that idiot came to power and she turned 18 in January of 45 while her country was being destroyed. Just watching it through the eyes of a child who knows nothing else, but hate yet finds a way to change in the midst of unimaginable sadness perhaps makes it hit home more.
  4. I don’t say this lightly because I can’t send anyone to any place once they kick the bucket, but I hope they both go to hell. I also hope that they have to watch an endless loop of their own lives from beginning to whatever their pitiful end is, and that it never stops for the rest of eternity.
  5. Screw that. I’d sit down and finish eating and never go back. I am as patriotic a person as you will find. I will gladly go to bat to talk about the military and the history of the navy and marines in particular, but this faux patriotism really hacks me off. Call it what it is, a cult wrapped up in a grifter-in-chief, and go on about your business.
  6. I saw that movie several times as a kid, but I didn’t like how the predator looked. Sometimes I just can’t watch a movie based on something like that. The more I learn about myself and being neurodivergent the more I understand why I don’t take to certain movies.
  7. Jojo Rabbit every time it’s on for me. I don’t get to sit down often to watch movies at home, but that is the movie for me.
  8. @CurlyDumps mentioned this one, but Paul Walter Hauser needs some mentions. He is in the new Naked Gun and he was great in his role. The scene with him fighting the kids was, well, perfect for that movie.
  9. My favorite movie of all time. Say it! Say it!!!!
  10. The commute for fans is an easy one. People sometimes forget that the New England states are small and things are not that far apart. You can drive from New York to Boston in 3.5 hours or so. I have gambled, but one thing that does bother me is the inability now to talk about sports without the money someone has on a game. I also find it to be a good idea to get this team away from a gambling-fueled area. Boston is a really cool city with a rich history and love for basketball. I may be a fan of the Purple and Gold, BUT I can respect a city that cares about the game. Putting them there will be a good move for league revenue. It just won't be a good one for owners who wanted an expansion team there instead so they could collect millions in league expansion fees. I'll cry one tear for them.
  11. The snowman scene had me laughing hard. Completely out of nowhere to say the least. Those are the kinds of things that remind me there are still some off-the-wall funny people out there. We could all probably use more laughs like the two parts you mentioned.
  12. I don’t think anyone is there because it’s a hobby so I get that. The only thing I am attempting to say from my viewpoint is that the league was propped up financially by the NBA. If it had not been the league would have folded already. I have said more than once on this thread that I am glad the NBA paid to keep things going. It grew some loyal fans and a generation+ of women have had women to look up to in professional basketball. Had I been David Stern or Adam Silver I would have had the owners do what they did while knowing MBA revenue sharing made sure I still made money. The amount of money required of each team in the NBA to keep the league solvent was a rounding error for them. Now the women can make really good money and I hope the interest explodes going forward.
  13. The WNBA has operated at a loss for almost three decades. To put that in a UT themed timeline, Ricky Williams had not won his Heisman Trophy yet and I was still in high school. The biggest reason this league has existed through those years is the millions in funding from the NBA. There has not been a day in the history of this league where they have been able to say a profit has been made. You make demands when you can show you are making bank. That new media deal ensures the players can now say they deserve a substantial raise in pay. The owners can no longer say we don’t have enough money to pay more. It’s there and it’s time to up the paycheck. I find the league entertaining. Did Caitlin Clark get me to focus MORE attention on the league? Yes. However, I do like watching some of the other young guns like Bueckers for example. More are on the way. I can take this back to 2020 as well. One day I go to a protest over on the Upper East Side. This young girl was there on her own. I think she was 11 or so. She lived in the neighborhood and I asked her what she wanted to be. She said a professional basketball player. She also asked me why WNBA players do not get more money. I told her then I hoped they would eventually make a lot more. She wanted them to make NBA money, but she was young and I wasn’t going to tell a child it was not likely to happen. That memory stood out because it showed the league was finally starting to have an impact beyond their small core fanbase.
  14. What a person is willing to pay for a franchise is whatever that person wants to pay. I don’t look at franchise valuation as anything meaningful in terms of pay for any professional sport. I am a die-hard Lakers fan since childhood, but I do not think or believe the Lakers are worth 10 billion. So no franchise fees mean little to me in terms of tying it to pay. I want the league to open the books for the same reason I want any pro sports league to do it and that’s transparency. Listening to other owners be upset and cry poverty in MLB because the Dodgers spend money seems disingenuous to me to do so. Let’s see the books there as well. The actual books and not the cooked books.
  15. Much like Morey's resume, this makes me laugh from the article. Emphasis mine.
  16. I want their pay to get higher. I also want the NBA to open the books to show the actual money they have spent. This needs to be done independently (Yes I know pigs will fly first) to see some of the “creative” accounting taking place. With the 200 million dollar media rights infusion they should get a much higher starting pay. I would say abpve at least 150k. for rookies. The ceiling needs to go much higher for the league superstars. The split needs to be 50/50. I am never on the side of owners, but when I see athletes asking for money that has not ever been there except through the NBA I am just not as understanding. The new media payments though have to result in much higher pay though. I want to see Clark, Bueckers, Collier,Ionescu, Stewart and others make bank for their play on the court and not just endorsements.
  17. You really just hope for the worst in the lives of people who say the things she did in those 23 seconds. Just the absolute worst kind of human. She's getting off people being dragged out of court hearings. I am just going to assume the N around her neck is for Nazi and not her name going forward.
  18. I’ll be brief. As a society we should be funding things like CPB and NPR. Societies that are functional and looking out for the greater good of the citizenry should want this. The cost is low, but the value provided to Americans more than pays for itself. That we are no longer funding this says a lot about the selfishness of the average modern American.
  19. I mean that’s okay if the price goes up. It’s quality TV and honestly I thoroughly enjoy watching shows on there. I know this is middle-aged man yelling at clouds, but PBS content is easily the most educational and useful of any streaming service. Kids and adults can learn a ton about the world around them watching it.
  20. What will happen with the PBS Masterpiece Streaming app? It is one of the three streaming services I pay for along with Acorn TV and Britbox. Just an absolute wealth of shows on the PBS streaming for people of all ages. I’d hate to see it go as well because TFG and his bald-headed clown of a propagandist just want it gone.
  21. If there is one person who deserves a face full of shovel repeatedly for the rest of eternity it’s him. We don’t have words that adequately describe just how horrible of a human being he is.
  22. I also read that Paul Walter Hauser will be doing an AMA. It was supposed to be tomorrow, but it looks like he’ll do it next week. He made me laugh out loud several times last night.
  23. Got it last night on my way out of the movie.
  24. I agree. Keep living your best life. I think there is some jealousy involved, but keep posting about your trips. I even like the restaurant and show recs you tell folks here about. I have a ton of respect for you and I am glad you are doing so well.
  25. The scene with the dog and Pamela Anderson had me crying laughing. Juvenile humor at its best. This movie was cool. Younger people will not get this style of humor though. Obviously he’s no Leslie Nielsen, but Liam Neeson was fun. Brought back cool memories from childhood watching the original movies. Even got a nice cameo thrown in. I’d watch it again.
