  1. By not calling a single holding call despite them holding on every fucking play including the key screen play on the opening drive of the second half? are you fucking blind?
  2. just a thought but paul, perhaps you could provide the email group (or here if comfortable) some names and contact info of some of your favorite and most trusted mix/master engineers that wouldn't be bothered by and could use some cold call random work.
  3. yes, to be clear, as i said in my earlier post, if you want the best results, hire a pro. most people don't even really understand what mastering is and even with the best tools, the outcome will not be optimal. however, as someone who really enjoys learning about the production process and as someone who makes a lot more music than i would ever release to streaming services that need a final, polished version, etc..., i want to at least raise the final output past amateurish and there is a lot of utility to the software i discussed above if you take the time to learn how to use it and its limitations. i have used izotope and fabfilter on probably 100 tracks at this point and so the one-time 299 investment amortized over that is far more efficient than paying engineer for something i'm not all that proud of each time. but you can be damned sure that if it is a track i intend to release into the real world past this thread or sharing with a few friends/family, it's getting the pro treatment...particularly on mixing. mixing is some dark arts shit that can truly drive you up the wall (even though i fucking enjoy it for some perverse reason that is akin to watching the 2003 RRS on loop). if you get it properly mixed, the effects of mastering become severely less critical.
  4. I'm laid up from a back procedure at the moment so since I have the time... Up front caveat and disclosure: if you want to maximize the quality of your mix and master, then you should hire a professional engineer. Even with the best tools getting you 95% of the way there, you will not get to 100%. Working together with them, that will always achieve the best possible results. That said, if you don't want to invest in going down that road or just want to get better at it yourself... For mastering, Goredho pointed out Ozone and that's definitely my favorite program by a long shot. The new one just came out and I personally think it is pretty outstanding. Isotope also makes some good programs for other steps (Neutron for mixing, Nectar for box, Tonal Balance Control, RX for audio cleaning, among many others). From my perspective, the best stuff they make is RX (which is first in class in audio cleaning), Ozone, and a cool little free program called Audiolens which gives you the ability to get endless amounts of EQ inputs from whatever songs you want in order to load them into Ozone for automatic EQ matching. Goredho gave an excellent overview of Ozone. But you have to remember that it is a tool to give you a starting point. You can't just set it and forget it. But it will do an excellent job of providing good guardrails and keeping you from doing anything really stupid. The one thing I would warn you with Ozone (or ANY mastering tool), is that it imposes significant compression as a default which relates to one of the criticisms that G650 laid out above about loudness. The problem with it is that it eliminates a lot of dynamic range and that is something you will find is a serious problem amongst a lot of modern and popular music. Compressors and compression are awesome and can add a lot of quality and color to your track but it can also neuter the sound and dynamic range if you overuse it. So regardless of anything you use, just keep an eye on that. Bottom line, for someone making the type of stuff you are, Ozone can go a long, long way in giving it a more professional veneer and I would recommend it. Particularly with drum forward sound. With your drum recording setup, I can't help but also encourage you to look at RX. A bit more of an investment but it is simply the best. If you don't want to spend as much on the Izotope stuff (patience is worth a lot there because they have some really deep sales often), the company I love the most is FabFilter. Pro-C, Pro-Q, and Pro-L will give you the ability to do a lot of improvement with a bit more in terms of flexibility. The EQ and compression side-chaining in Pro-Q and Pro-C are incredibly easy and are so good. Again, drums - gotta have that side-chaining. no shortage of opinions on mic'ing drums out there. lots of ways to skin that cat.
  5. going to u2 later this year at the sphere so haven't been yet but this video seemed worth posting. venue looks completely fucking insane. i'm trying to imagine a world where pink floyd played shine on your crazy diamond with this type of a/v. or i bet sigur ros could do some incredible shit with this. bono's voice sounds terrible but my fandom for u2 has always been about the edge so i will see this.
  6. pointless for the rest of us to compare production quality to paul...dude literally owns a fucking professional studio. and i think there's probably some good reasons why jimmyjazz's recordings all sound super good. that said, there are a lot of really small and inexpensive things you can do to ratchet up your production if you want to on any tracks. happy to throw a few ideas your way if you are interested. but the soul of it is in what you are doing...just capturing good song ideas and good lyrics. i remain of the opinion that once this experiment is over in January, i would love to see you finish Leaving Home to Rust and make a version that dials up some of the production because i really like what you have captured and i think it could be an excellent, excellent song (not that your new one isn't also quite good). happy to help you with any of the production side stuff i can as well. on me and the devil, in case it isn't obvious, one of the things i am trying to do with this experiment is do a different style on each prompt. first was soundtrack score. i spent the day listening to robert johnson one day just to see if anything was inspired and i kept coming back to little snippets that sounded like they would make for cool samples to repeat in an edm track ala some of moby's more popular work like "natural blues." but the more i listened, r&b and funk seemed to jive with the tempo a bit better and some rap lyrics fit.
  7. it's united and it isn't close.
  8. we were planning to but then northloop and snake diggity came in and totally fucked us.
  9. Some of y’all haven’t watched Field of Dreams for too long.
  10. we lost to luton town. luton town. fucking luton town.
  11. Cocaine and cash. Sign up sheet for school.
  12. i hear this guy is offering rides if you want to reach out...
  13. Definitely the worst road performance. But he was solid at kstate and Kansas last year even though Bijan made it easy for him.
  14. Purely anecdotal and casual observation in my head currently but I’d be curious to see how his stats compare away from home vs at home. It feels like his qbr, etc would be much better in games away than they are at home. When I think of the more mediocre to bad performances he has had, they all feel like they were home games. TCU last year, Baylor last year, Wyoming and Rice this year. OU last year, at Bama, at Baylor…even the bowl game last year all feel like his better play. I feel like home games are a bit more of a struggle for some bizarre reason.
  15. I am heavily involved in dispositive motion practice (not just affidavits but often) and the outcomes are often extremely relevant to what we will do in trial. Familiarity with summary judgment process is pretty basic shit.
  16. everton currently beating aston villa 2-0. what in god's name happened over the international break?
  17. the problem with that is that the summary judgment process would have occurred in either context. these weren't issues of disputed material facts. this happens regardless of it being a bench or jury trial.
  18. twicehorn, i have some recollection of you saying daltx did something similar to me for a career? if so, this page is alarmingly stupid.
  19. hate to see that for him. awful and cruel this game can be.
  20. damn. ballgame for conner?
  21. georgia and michigan (to some extent) have earned the benefit of the doubt in a way texas hasn't over the last few years. i suspect fsu fan boards have posters fretting over deficiencies in their games against b.c. and clemson that have to be fixed if they want to win a national championship.
  22. we still have a ways to go and i generally agree with the sentiment of your post. people are overreacting to beating a team that lost to texas state at home with a lot of zeal. i always find it pretty incredible how much this board overreacts in both directions to certain outcomes. in a sport that thrives on inconsistency even from very good teams (which is what makes cfb interesting), i have always found that amusing. but...for the first time in what seems like a long time, texas did not play down (or up) to the opponent. herman and sark are both horrible about that. instead, the horns went out and did what they were supposed to do for the most part. and quinn finally threw a truly accurate deep pass (yay)! despite being put in a shit situation multiple times due to the most boneheaded fucking special teams game since maybe ncstate in 1999 off the top of my head, the defense absolutely obliterated the soul of a team that should have been able to get something going twice. baylor is seriously horrible...especially the version we faced saturday. i can't believe dave has left them get so poor but that's another discussion. they had absolutely nothing. but, sark has a large body of work implying that texas goes out and has to win a stupid game that's closer than it should be on a couple of big plays to take baylor down 35-27 and instead, they dominated. that was refreshing. and if auburn can hit extra point distance field goals and xavier/jordan don't go full you know what on punt return, that is a 48-3 beatdown of a bad p5 team which has been a while. we have a lot of "good" teams left on the schedule. teams that can win if texas lets them. ou, kansas, kstate, byu, tcu are all slightly above average teams and a couple of them are arguably top 25 teams. scares you to death but so far, (knock on the biggest fucking wood of all time) we have only suffered one critical injury and have had good luck on that front...and the defensive line is playing at an exceptional, national championship contending level. quinn is getting better, sanders is dominating, cook and mitchell offering the defense something else besides worthy opens up all kinds of shit, linebacker play is best since gary johnson, and the dbs are doing "enough." the other big takeaway from the last two games for me is that i might have to admit that i was overly skeptical about brooks' ability to make a difference. he's been fantastic since the third quarter of the wyoming game. quinn still missed some subtle stuff (very minor relatively speaking) and special teams should be taken out back and shot but other than that, very little to nothing to complain about which is nice for a change. we disposed of the team that should be fighting houston for worst in the league this year. gets significantly more interesting from here. but at least it's interesting again.
