  1. Also, the 42 years ago part is interesting. 1979 Revolution is just 45 years ago. So I imagine this was part of some large purge that happened after the revolution. Sure enough, wikipedia tells me of early 80s purging that includes Baha'i The 1981 massacre[edit] Between June 1981 and March 1982, the theocratic regime carried out the largest political massacre in Iranian history, targeting communists, socialists, social democrats, liberals, monarchists, moderate Islamists, and members of the Baha'i faith as part of the Iranian Cultural Revolution decreed by Khomeini on 14 June 1980 with the intent of "purifying" Iranian society of non-Islamic elements.[238] Between June 1981 and June 1982, Amnesty International documented 2,946 executions, with several thousand more killed in the next two years according to the anti-government guerilla People's Mujahedin of Iran.[239] More recently, Rastyad Collective has verified the identities of more than 3,400 political dissidents who were executed between June 1981 and March 1982.[240][241] These dissidents were sentenced to death by the Islamic Revolutionary Courts during show trials in more than eighty-five cities across the country on charges of spreading "corruption on Earth" (ifsad-fi-alarz), "espionage", "terrorism", or "enmity against Allah" (Moharebeh).[238] Most victims of the 1981 massacre were young activists aged eleven to twenty-four. These activists were either high school students or had recently graduated from universities in Iran and abroad. During the massacre, hundreds of minors were also subjected to arbitrary detention, torture, and summary executions on ideologically motivated charges of ifsad-fi-alarz and moharebeh by the revolutionary courts.[240][238][242]
  2. i fantasize about solutions like this all the time. i look at elevation lines and see if there is way to have northeast to colorado river transport
  3. Still burning 12 hours afterward? That’s probably a good sign.
  4. Really we are putting all our money on: polling systematically broken in unexplainable ways, and broken all in the same direction, and that broken direction is the opposite of the last errors when polling Trump; and/or still a long time to election. Anything that doesn’t acknowledge that is copium.
  5. Just baffling. So many ballot splitters.
  6. These this. https://www.tdcj.texas.gov/bpp/Sgt_Perry_PR.pdf but surely something more is out there.
  7. Slovakia Pres then Iranian Pres then … oh man this is building toward something great. I feel like you need another step before you get to Putin/Dotard/Xi. So Lil Kim, Orban, watch your corn holes.
  8. If I was Trumps lawyer there would be no way I’d let him get within 100 miles of the witness stand. I can’t imagine anyone having more material on them that would show they have a tendency to lie.
  9. Are we learning that campaigning is valueless? Nothing has changed in the last year, one side has all the money and all the time. The other side has no money and is locked up in a courtroom and under literal orders to not say what he wants to to fire up his base. Yet nothing.
  10. Team RISP0-18 (O'Hoppe 0-1, Guillorme 0-2, Moniak 0-2, Ward 0-2, Rengifo 0-3, Adell 0-1, Calhoun 0-2, Schanuel 0-3, Neto 0-2) good game good effort
  11. Best chance for Biden winning us for everyone to be reminded of trumps shittiness. Him being in trial and not campaigning hampers that.
  12. Today’s NYT Crossword was very sub-Friday level. Not much harder than a Monday.
  13. ? "We reject those remarks. Here are all the ways we teach that show that there are a number of high callings for women" seems pretty responsive.
  14. i'd like to put my vote in for calling flying a flag upside down as a "stop the steal symbol" as really dumb. me: [picks my boogers] slate: behold is wanting me to throw a fastball, because one finger is the fastball symbol.
  15. Then, yes, you belong on TexAgs. Your exact mentality is well represented over there. Post some links of this if you can. I could use some liberal tears right about now.
  16. I don't want to engage in message board bullshit on something this important. Do you have something you'd like to share? Was there some finding that the jury did that?
  17. I've been thinking about this for the last 24 hours. It's really gotten under my skin. This really does represent a new low. How many murders happen in our state every year? Over 2000. Clearance rate? 70%. How many pardons for those 1400 people? 1, as far as I can tell. Two guys meet on the street. Both armed. One shoots the other. Justified? Murder? Who knows? A 12 person jury is the way you determine that. And they determined that here. Abbott said this is the single one the jury got wrong. I PROMISE you the political beliefs of the victim played into this decision. Abbott doesn't know this guy from Adam. He just knows that the state will smile on him for eliminating someone associated with a political belief that is out of favor.
  18. With SC and iowa, the primaries are the reason you see weird effects there. Those are the two states with important primaries which drives a ton of contributions that don't happen in nonprimary years. 2020 was a contested D primary, lots of donations to everyone D, so the 2024 sees a huge negative delta. 2024 was contested R, lots to everyone R, so huge positive delta over 2020.
  19. this board's ability to get hurt feelings is desperate and sad.
  20. NYT: Votes for Haley aren't predictive of anything. In fact, they are low by historic standards. (Biden 2020 had 23% of people voting for folks other than him in the primaries after all other serious contenders dropped out) https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/04/24/us/elections/nikki-haley-trump-zombie-votes.html
  21. Other interesting ones include big gains in NC for Biden, which is my one pic for Red -> Blue this cycle. There are circumstantial effects here that are a big deal on a state-by-state basis, as explained by the Times.
