  1. Ok. Plans are starting to come together. I really need some help on the Emilia Romagna pieces.
  2. https://www.nytimes.com/live/2025/01/13/us/trump-news?searchResultPosition=2#abbott-texas-flags-trump-inauguration So glad I am no longer a Texan. Officially got rid of my Texas DL last week.
  3. They don't care. In fact super real Christians like Frank Drebin were saying that this, and all the other cases, were political witch hunts. However, Donald Trump is a felon and a complete piece of shit. On brand for American Christianity.
  4. There is. It’s 500 or 1000 SGD. I don’t get the picture with that on it.
  5. https://newrepublic.com/post/190103/maga-republican-plan-los-angeles-fire-relief Fuck the GQP. Maybe California and New York should just keep their federal tax dollars since we know Trump and the GQP hate us. The next 4 years are going to be a shitshow.
  6. Singapore also limits the overall number of private cars. Also, I love the fines for Durian on the metro there.
  7. Can they take Staten Island with them?
  8. New England really only sucks in the winter and early Spring. Generally, April to mid November is really quite nice for the most part. In NYC, there are 4 bad months: January and February and then July and August. Most of the rest of the year, the weather is actually quite nice. I will say it stayed warmer a lot longer this year than in years past.
  9. How has no one nominated @NowThis for expertise in pegging?
  10. We have an office in Portsmouth, NH. When I have to visit there, I usually rent a car from the Avis on 64th between 2nd and 1st and take Harvey with me. I can walk there, and I always fill up the car at a Shell station in Harlem and also get it detailed (Harvey sheds something fierce). I usually head up there once in the summer (though this summer is going to be tough) and in the fall (get to leaf peep for free). I think this year, Harvey and I might head up to Salem or near there for Halloween. Also, Concord and Lexington are doing celebrations for the 250th Anniversary of the Battles of Lexington and Concord in April (Easter Weekend to be specific), so might be fun to go up there then.
  11. I hate driving in the city. I try and avoid it, but sometimes, renting a car and escaping is a good idea.
  12. My aunt lives on Ave B, up the hill from the beach in Redondo. She said they’ve got smoke and ash there.
  13. Why do you do that to yourself? The reality is that hate should have no quarter. They hate that she is a woman, and they hate that she is a lesbian. The fact that Elon and his ilk cannot fathom that she was the best person for the job is insidious misogyny that should have no place in society at all.
  14. Fuck Ted Cruz. This is not political. This has everything to do.with This asshole's proven losing record. Also, it's my birthday, and I can tell Ted Cruz to go fuck himself if I want to. He didn't go here!
  15. Today is my birthday. Texas should win because, otherwise, the 10th of Jan is a hard birthday to have.
  16. From my apartment in getting ready to head out to dinner to celebrate my birthday... TEXAS!!!!!
  17. Yep. That is where I am at now. I mean, even if I got a massive birthday present of a lottery win (I only play when it is over 500M, but since today is my birthday, I am buying tickets for both the big pots today), I would not buy. There is not a lot of good inventory on the market, so prices are unbelievably high, and for places where you are going to have to put massive amounts of work in. I would rather buy the 60k house in Southern France and put 100k into that and have a place to escape to.
  18. Honestly, don't see much. One time, I was heading to my office (sometimes, I take the 57th bus to 5th ave and walk down) through Rockefeller Center, when I saw two ladies run out of the GAP on 6th (which is now closed) and point to a man with a rucksack saying he had stolen sweaters and the woman walking about 3 steps ahead and him was with him. A guy in a 3 piece suit and what looked like a highschooler, grabbed the guy's bag, and opened it, and sure enough, there were about 5-6 sweaters with tags on them. NYPD were standing about 10 feet away and pretended like they saw nothing. About 2 more random people came in and kept the guy from his bag until they got all the stolen merch from his bag. Once the ladies had everything, the guy in the suit handed the bag back to him, and everyone walked away. Guy and his lady accomplice scurried away, and everyone went back to thier business. That is really the only things I have ever encountered in this city, other than random drunk people falling down outside bars (and having to help get them in an ambulance).
  19. I am already pretty close to uptown (58th and 1st). The problem is, my rental is just over 1000 sq ft with a great, open floor plan in a full service building. I do not want to be house poor, and a mortgage in a full service COOP would make me house poor, unfortunately. But it is all ok.
  20. Private equity is pretty nuts as well. I’ve been doing this for over 20 years, and I think I’ve worked more in the last 3.5 years than I did in the prior 5, and that included when I was Americas Head of Fimance for another trading shop. i lived in NyC during the credit crash. I wish I’d stayed and bought a place then. But I went to Houston instead. I came back in 2019, and I’m effectively priced out of anything I would want to own. Bleh.
  21. Finance and accounting for a Global Commodity trading firm.
  22. I’m not. I’m taking a car. And I have only taken the LIRR out of GC/Madison once, but I can imagine it would be a right PITA with my luggage. I’m usually flying international for at least a week. No thanks.
  23. That is effectively what they’ve done with Airtrain to LIRR. Yes, there is a stop, but this way, they can use existing tracks. There are limited crossings of the East River. Manhattan is slightly different due to it being an island. That said, I live on the east side, and it’s easier to car for me with my luggage. Getting to and from Penn station can sometimes take as long as a car to JFK. Subways and buses are fine. If you see a crazy person on the subway, just go to a different car. Like @Reynolds Woodcock, I live and work in the congestion zone, so I support the rules.
