  1. Guess you should have been willing to pay up earlier to ensure supply. The tightness in cattle is coming because of drought, and poor calf prices the last couple of years have shrunk the herd. On the bright side there is a shit load of cheap chicken in the pipeline, and hog numbers could bounce quickly too.
  2. Seasonal moves get exaggerated when there are problems like bird flu. Also everyone is going to be real pissy in 6-12 months when beef goes through the roof
  3. It's like demand slows down after Christmas baking season.
  4. Most of my Twitter enjoyment comes from bots tweeting old pictures of stuff and old Garfield comics, and the guy that has a dedicated Nebraska High School Sports history account, if Elon fucks that up, I can’t see myself sticking around
  5. Eggs are incredibly more consolidated that cattle, there is effectively no open market in eggs, and zero small commercial producers. Broilers are just as bad. Cattle are the least consolidated of all the livestocks, even as fucked up as the industry is.
  6. Apparently a very close call in an Omaha Target today. https://www.1011now.com/2023/01/31/police-responding-west-omaha-target-store/ Suspect got shot before he could do much or any harm today. Police statement was that a man in his 30's with an AR-15 and plenty of ammo was the suspect.
  7. The Bird flu has hit harder in the north, Cal-Maine might be a little protected geographically too where they can profit from others misfortune. My cousin that runs a Cal-Maine unit near Waelder hasn’t been super concerned about potential issues
  8. Manure can combust under the right circumstances, but it's more likely to gas you to death. The grain dust accumulation from the feed would probably burn a bit faster though.
  9. Wear on building and systems exacerbated by the stress of winter weather. Could have been as simple as a vent fan spinning a bearing and starting a fire, and once it gets going you aren't going to be able to do much about it. If it was a 100K unit it was probably stretched past the designed life span already.
  10. That is a little ass laying operation. My aggie cousin runs a medium sized one that is 1.0 million hens. Also, confinement livestock stuff burns down constantly every winter, it's part of the deal.
  11. You also came through a seasonal demand bulge with Christmas baking season. We've pretty well caught of up with broilers from bid flu, but it takes a bit more with layers. Milk futures are off about 20% since November, and that should continue to ease a bit. Beef and pork whole sale has moderated significantly, but pork will start the seasonal run higher soon with meh numbers overall, and beef eventually takes off a bit as we are headed into the tightest part of the cattle cycle soon, and biology is not your friend there.
  12. I have the 4 cylinder turbo, which is quick enough for the suicide merge I have on my commute.
  13. I'll note that at my office in an ag business, outside of the old guy, I am the only person that doesn't drive a full sized truck with my Bronco sport. With the ability to lay seats down and a rubberized cargo area, I have as good of a cargo area as them, and I can work it up and down some of the narrow trails at the various parks on the River Bluffs, and leave usable space in my garage. For practicality I don't see what I would gain by paying significantly more for a truck.
  14. I bet ol’TBoneHusker there’s favorite Huskers were always fullbacks excepting Andra Franklin and Willie Miller
  15. Do the major banks collectively know shit about fuck, though?
  16. I'll just note where I work, we continue to have support staff and goods cut back, and more things added to everyones plate, then management is baffled the they've lost 20% of the company in a year despite paying very well.
  17. You sure showed that cloud what's up.
  18. Is this going to end with’em getting Waco’ed?
  19. Should have just picked a flat spot along I-29 near the state line and hashed it out there.
  20. It's still wild to me that Sam Pittman, and Willie Fritz were on the same defensive unit at Pitt State.
  21. Looks like my Aunt and Uncle by Giddings about to cash in on not knocking over their old hog buildings.
  22. https://www.1011now.com/2022/12/27/former-nebraska-qb-rescues-family-burning-home/ It's no surprise to me that the Yolo Bomb king ran into a burning house to save people.
  23. Maybe another neighbor will beat his ass again
  24. I was also going to say since you farm, you are probably pretty familiar with talk that so and so is paying such and suches way in life. (Whether it’s true or not)
  25. On a food note, wholesale chicken is back to 2010 lows, and boxed beef is back near early pandemic lows. (That won’t last due to where we are in the cattle cycle)
