  1. Besides the ones listed here, there was one on a return (kick, I think) where our returner was clearly OOB, and the defender had him wrapped up then threw him to the ground at least 3 yards OOB. Just seemed to me that should have garnered an unsportsmanlike call. There's a lot of talk about coaching (of lack of) for preparedness and so forth. But poor sportsmanship is also coached, or allowed by coaches. And then it's brushed off as "intimidation" by the broadcasters/media. Used to be that kind of play would cost a team. That stuff and all the taunting and horns down, etc. just tarnishes the game, as far as I am concerned. I am glad that humility and sportsmanship are part of Sark's culture. When people do that kind of stuff, taking borderline cheap shots even, it only exhibits to me a pretty large inferiority complex. And yes, there will be plenty who take that as arrogance, and point to the scoreboard as the sole measure of a team or competitor. Maybe it is, but maybe that excellence in our institution is something others envy, and over time doing things the right way and with good sportsmanship pays off, reputation wise. And that draws in the best coaches, players, fans, etc. I doubt that any other team in FBS can claim as much hatred directed at them all year long, from so many different parties, as the Longhorns. And it plays to their credit that they don't lash out due to frustration, and maintain composure after the game. I mean it's got to be pretty hard to embrace all that hate and not take a swing at someone. I'd like to see some of that return to college football, but maybe it's too late, maybe the money is too big?
  2. Yeah. I should have been clearer. Had the OT at Dirty's. Switched horses in mid stream. I really hate how they've removed the bar stools and put up that plexiglass wall at Dirty's. Was always entertaining to interact with the cooks.
  3. I figure the article is paywalled? If it is, this link should work: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/31/us/college-athletes-nil-sugar-rose-bowl.html?unlocked_article_code=1.KE0.W0r9.CQFPBN-nZWd1&smid=url-share But yeah, I read the article. I'm not seeing where it denigrates any of the schools. It pretty much just gives a report on how each school started with NIL and where they are now. It's a lot better written than most of the clickbait "woe for our dying bowl system" articles. The title is probably the most inflammatory thing about it. But it's the truth. College sports are changing, and the change has been needed for a while now. Seems more this article is a snapshot of where we are now than an opinion piece.
  4. Yeah, they're not done. Lots of talent and good coaching can overcome the loss of Harmon. Considering they're learning on the fly against Baylor, they're doing well.
  5. Rosenthal Meat Science and Technology Center | Teaching, Research, Extension and Service (agrilife.org) The one pound summer sausage football sounds pretty damn festive, no? Some pretty good meat though overall, and they cranked up their creamery again. But I imagine they have some pretty substantial restrictions about selling on a larger scale. Most of their research dollars would come from their competition then, like Blue Bell and the big 3 meat packers.
  6. It started losing it years ago. But then I was lucky to eat at some of the original ones in Corpus, back when they wrote your order on the bag. In Austin my go to is Hill-bert's out on Cameron Rd. I stopped for an OT Special the other day, and was pretty disappointed.
  7. Interesting, not trying to be argumentative, but in my leisurely watching CFB over the holidays, I never heard WA being picked to win You're right in a way, but there's a ton of clickbait writers and halftime has-beens who are being edgy in coming up with all these ways UW will surprise and defeat UT. Some of them caveat it with the "Texas is talented, but" line, then get into whatever their secret insight is. These guys are always trying to make a name for themselves for being a bright analyst who sees things others overlook. So, while it's not that we're the underdogs, but more like the easiest to upset. And there's merit to that as well, since our team has stumbled in big games before more often than not recently. I would bet as we get closer to gametime, we'll see more people picking UW to win. They have nothing to lose. If Texas wins, it was because they were supposed to. If UW wins, then they look super smart in picking them.
  8. Always admired how UT teams of all sports have humbly gone about winning from the underdog position. This seems to be lining up just like the Shoe at night, 2005 Rose Bowl, winning at Tuscaloosa, and the just recent Women's Vball Championship. Embrace the hate and go on about your business, Horns.
  9. General question. If the ball is set on the hash mark, can the holder set up in the middle of the field and have the long snapper snap it there?
  10. Instead of "Exterminate!". It's "Intercept!"
  11. Bowman reminds me of one of these for some reason.
  12. I'm sure Kevin was going to invite her to young christians mingler at his church so she could meet some upstanding christian men.
  13. Well, they'd have to know how to spell the guy's name to do a google search.
  14. Done DeWalt and Milwaukee. I'm slowly replacing them with Metabo. https://www.metabo-hpt.com/us/main-navigation/catalogs-literature
  15. So does tomorrow start the legend of 12th Man A, 12th Man B, etc? How many volunteers will come out of the stands to fight for old Army?
  16. Yep, time to open presents
  17. And may 2024 be the year we oust the carpetbagger Cruz and replace him with someone who actually wants to serve the State of Texas. I cannot tell you enough how much I learn from you folks. And how many chuckles I've gotten as well. Truly a touchstone of sanity for me at times. Thanks. And thanks to Blacklab and Imma for adding this forum.
  18. We did it at night the first time, like 50 miles of complete darkness and maybe one or two other cars on the road. Very eerie feeling.
  19. Curious what you guys think Strength and Conditioning and depth will play in this game. Seems like Sark and Co have done a good job keeping a lot of talent in rotation to get guys like Ant Hill and Muhammad playing time and experience. And then I would have to imagine our summer trainings and games in the heat would increase our guys' stamina? One of the coaches in the UW article mentioned playing fast to wear out Sweat and Murphy. I saw other teams do that this year and we didn't step off a cliff when our 2nd teamers got in to give the starters breathers. It always seemed that by the end of the game, both our lines had worn the opponents down. Does UW have the same caliber depth?
  20. Team Alex, and when she got back to the mainland she went to work for Billy Bob in Goliath.
  21. Good point, but it can be pivoted to show how Biden is leading the way on changes that need to be made. Doing all he can, and if you didn't get pardoned then look to your state to vote in people who will follow his lead. If nothing else, it starts the conversation and should eventually render some reliable statistics.
  22. No, it just costs more for these smaller stores to maintain good fresh produce, baked goods and meat. They have to charge more for produce for instance to make up for the spoilage they will have because they don't sell in as much volume. My community of 1500 has no local store, we go 10 miles to a town of 1200 who has a Brookshires and two different dollar stores. Then 45 miles further either way is a Kroger, HEB or Walmart Superstore. It's very hard for these small groceries to stay competitive and keep their doors open. Its not that the people are poor and make poor choices, but more like they have fewer choices. A lot of these folks have gardens or neighbors with gardens too. Many of them either hunt or have friends who hunt or fish and they have freezers full of meat and pantries full of home canned goods. Not everyone, but many do.
  23. Now we just need to get a list of all those pardoned in Texas and go register them to vote.
