Stopped at a liquor store in the middle of nowhere in Alabama last week, and saw a handle of Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star.  Not priced on the shelf.  Took it up front and asked for the price - $42 and change before tax.  Out the door for under $50.  I figured it would be a perfectly acceptable mixer, which it is.  This weekend I discovered that it is pretty darn tasty with just an ice cube or two.

Never seen it on the shelf in Tennessee.  I am gruntled.

Not a bad expression (albeit young) of the mashbill #2. You really ought to try Tom Moore BiB out of Barton. It’s a damn steal at less than half the price you paid, and quite the sipper when not mixing. It’s probably a year older than AAA (has to be at least 4 as a BiB)

I’d rate WJ lucky 13 around a 6.5-7. Worth a try. Just can’t get over the price tag.

The Spec’s pick was good, but the Alamo City 12 year Widow Jane is one of the best 12 year MGP I’ve had.  I’d probably take Boone County 12 over it and that’s about it.

And im reminded of the teaching opportunity that Buffalo Trace has zero ownership of mashbill #2 and all of its expressions.

is this really relevant though?  since buffalo trace is owned by sazerac they technically have zero ownership of everything they make.  i cant remember the back story exactly.  when age bought the distillery from schenker (was it?) and then sold it to sazerac they kept ownership of all the brands made by mashbill #2?

but back to the relevancy.  if you owned a rembrandt would you take a sharpie and draw a penis on it?  its a masterpiece and remains unchanged through the years.  mashbill #2 came from george t staggs distillery, i'm guessing invented somewhere in those years (maybe by him?).  have any of the owners ever changed it?  obviously wheatley cant (without japanese approval), but i would guess it's never changed, so what difference does it make who owns it?

It makes a difference in so far as the Japanese could take their chips home and bye bye mash bill #2. Just like every other owner of bourbon. Will they?  Doubtful. But most folks not close to the business simply don’t know that the Blanton they drink isn’t BT. Or Sazerac since you want to be so specifically accurate.
