Nice job flood. Can’t even recruit against air.

Actually, this was the least air of all. Already had a relationship and whatnot.

And if he can't play LG in 2026, I'm not highly concerned.

I mean, have you seen the past 2 classes? He's surefire depth at worst, AA at best. Let's not go bashing any OL just yet.

Tom Loy (247 Sports) gushes over our 2026 class. Fun read.

TL;dr for indolent -

  • Jermaine Bishop - best pound for pound player in the class, better than Travis Hunter at this stage, likes him even more at safety, Malachi Toney is a comp.

  • Dia Bell - developed in to one of the smoothest, most polished passers in all of high school football

  • Loaded class overall - Atkinson, Okpala, Wesley, Matthews, Cooper, Carlton, Johnson

  • Thinks this class will help us win a title in the next four years.

  • Note - several players mentioned as "day one contributors." Nothing on the OL.

Texas secured the No. 8 recruiting class in the country according to 247Sports. 23 signees from the class of 2026 are set to play for head coach Steve Sarkisian.

Five-star two-way athlete Jermaine Bishop and quarterback Dia Bell are the two five-star headliners of the class. The group is also loaded with Top100 prospects like linebackers Tyler Atkinson and Kosi Okpala, and edge rusher Richard Wesley. There are another five Top247 signees headed to town.

Here are three thoughts when looking at the entire class.

TEXAS LANDED THE BEST POUND FOR POUND FOOTBALL PLAYER IN 2026

It's nothing you all haven't heard before, but Willis (Texas) High five-star two-way athlete Jermaine Bishop is special. I know some people want to throw around Travis Hunter as the comp, but I think Bishop is actually a better pure football player on both sides of the ball than even Hunter was at this stage in his career. Both are truly incredible talents, though, so that's surely not a slight at either.

Pound for pound, I'm not sure you'll find a better high school prospect in 2026 than Bishop. The 5-11, 155-pounder is incredible with the ball in his hands. Our own Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins compares Bishop to Miami star freshman receiver Malachi Toney and believes he could be an immediate impact guy day one in Austin. I couldn't agree more. Bishop is just a little different than most as a receiver and could be electric in the slot when he arrives in Austin.

However, at safety, I think I like Bishop even more on the back end of the defense. He's a difference-maker in the secondary. His ability to roam around, find the football, show his physicality, and put his elite ball skills on display is incredible. His tape is something else.

If you're Texas, just get him on the field somewhere as soon as possible and let him make your team better.

TEXAS LANDED A DAMN GOOD ONE IN DIA BELL

The Elite 11 MVP himself, Dia Bell, signed with Texas in December. The 6-3, 215-pounder committed to the Longhorns early and never wavered, despite a strong push from a variety of programs. He was loyal to the school, and the program showed that same respect back to him when he suffered a season-ending injury, which cut his senior campaign short.

That said, I've seen enough from Bell over the years that I am not questioning how talented he is, not in the slightest.

Bell is incredibly gifted. However, this isn't something that came naturally. I've watched him throw it around since he was in the 8th grade. It didn't always look this clean or this natural. Fast forward a couple of years, and he has transformed into one of the smoothest, most polished passers in all of high school football. He's super clean mechanically. It's all a credit to the work he has put in to put himself in that elite, upper-tier category among the nation's best. Bell is a tremendous talent, a terrific leader, and one day he'll be a Texas captain. No doubt in my mind that he's going to have a special career in Austin.

    THIS CLASS IS LOADED!

I could go on and on about just about every player in Texas' 2026 recruiting class. This class is truly loaded in every sense of the word.

Top100 linebacker Tyler Atkinson is outstanding and one of the most day-one-ready defenders this cycle. He's smart, he's a student of the game, he's a football guy, and he's physically ready to help right away.

What a finish to the high school career for Top100 linebacker Kosi Okpala. Talk about trending up! He's elite.

Top100 edge rusher Richard Wesley is another immediate impact guy in this class. At No. 80 overall, don't tell our scouting team, but I think he's one of the most underrated guys in the class.

Top247 cornerback Samari Matthews may be my favorite player in Texas' class. I think he's one of the surest things from the group and a future All-American.

Early in his career, I thought Derrek Cooper had the athleticism to be a lockdown, shutdown cornerback. He's that gifted on defense. Then you put the ball in his hands and you realize how special he is at running back.

Top247 defensive linemen Jamarion Carlton and James Johnson were massive pickups for Texas. Two others that were huge gets and guys that can help you day one.

I can't say enough good things about the group Steve Sarkisan, the entire coaching staff, general manager Brandon Harris, chief of staff Jared Blank, director of player personnel John Michael Jones, and so many others did this cycle. It's a special, special group of difference-makers that will get Texas over the hump and, in my opinion, back on top as national champions in the next four years.

Man I can't wait to see what Okpala, Cooper, Samari Matthews, Wesley, and Bishop can do. Same with Bell in 2027, but he'll have his bumps. This class is too low, but whatever. It's top-10, and I like the evaluations.

We’re we recruiting this player…SIAP:

  • A 16-year-old Viera Hawks football player, Brian Moss, died in a car accident while traveling with his family.

  • Moss was a freshman player who had recently been named the Varsity Specialty Player of the Year.

  • The family's church, The Church at Viera, confirmed the death and expressed condolences.

Shit, that's right. I forgot it was a sports hernia or something. It was his leg in 2024.

Not sure I agree with his Bishop at safety take. He just said the kid is 155 pounds and he wants to put him at safety in the SEC?

Bishop said he wants to start on offense first and then try to do both O&D. So I suspect IF he does both, we won't see him on defense for at least anther year or two. He's light-light. I looked and it shows he's currently at 165 lbs. That's not ideal, really, for either offense or defense unless he magically gets in the weight room and adds another 10 lbs. I guess it's possible he could play at 165 lbs like Worthy, but I don't see it, imo.

Whatever. I don't know shit from fuck. If he's explosive enough and can lay contact and absorb contact like Worthy, I ain't even gonna worry about it. I mean, Travis Hunter also weighed 165 lbs coming out of HS, so let's roll.

Here ya go guys.

FYI - For those that aren't huge recruiting nerds like myself, the reason there aren't as many Longhorn recruits - especially in the Navy Bowl - is because both rosters consist of quite a few 2027 recruits who are currently uncommitted.

"The 6'4", 351-pound interior lineman has been overwhelming his competition in practice due to his superior size and strength. As mentioned earlier, the fact that he's a just 3-star recruit initially caused quite a few people to write him off heading into the week."

Ah, critical thinking. No one who hasn't been awarded that precious fourth star has ever amounted to jack shit and should be written off while still in high school. Never mind that like half of every NFL draft is made up of guys ranked lower than Robertson.

And yeah this guy is bad ass and I never understood the ranking.

Notes and nuggets from check-in day at the Navy All-American Bowl

Kinda interesting notes on how our pursuits of some targets went after they committed elsewhere/the coach they committed to was fired

The annual Navy All-American Bowl week kicked off on Monday with check-in day.

Around 100 of the nation's top prospects flocked to San Antonio for the annual all-star event and each prospect met with 247Sports shortly after touching down in the Alamo City.

Here's a few behind the scenes notes on 2026 prospects and a few nuggets on 2027 prospects.

Temple Top247 DL Jamarion Carlton — Texas signee

The lone Texas signee at the event is blessed to be in the position to play in this game two years in a row and is excited to represent Temple and the Longhorns this week. Carlton said Texas was the only school he was considering down the stretch and that the Longhorns never stopped consistently communicating with him even after his original Baylor commitment. Carlton went a bit more behind the scenes with Horns247 and I'll have more on him later today.

Iowa Colony Top247 WR Jayden Warren — Texas A&M signee

The Longhorns never offered Warren, but I was curious if they reached out to gauge interest during the second half of his junior year or doing his senior year. They did not, and Warren told Horns247 he hadn't heard from Texas since he visited for a home game during the 2024 season. Pretty headscratching considering Warren is 6-foot-1, nearly 200 pounds, and PRed in the 10.1-10.2 range.

Mansfield Lake Ridge five-star OT Felix Ojo — Texas Tech signee

Ojo didn't say much that wasn't already known, but he did mention Texas finished third behind Ohio State and Texas Tech and that he never heard from Texas after committing to the Red Raiders in the summer. Ojo also mentioned that the entire staff unfollowed him on social media after he committed to Texas Tech.

Honolulu (Hi.) Kamehameha Top247 OT Malakai Lee — Michigan signee

After the fallout with Sherrone Moore, the Michigan signee said he really considered getting out of his paperwork to go to Texas or Georgia but once the Wolverines announced the hire of Kyle Whittingham all the considerations went out the window and Lee shut it down and will stick with Michigan. Lee also mentioned that Texas finished second when Lee originally committed to Michigan in late June. Georgia finished third, and Alabama was in the top four but Lee said it was really a three-team race.

Richardson Top247 DL Jaimeon Winfield — USC signee

Winfield said that the Longhorns finished second behind USC and mentioned that he considered visiting Texas several times after he committed but he never ended up making it to Austin after he pledged to the Trojans. Winfield took two trips to Texas, for the Georgia game in 2024 and for the Junior Day in January of 2025. Winfield was rubbed the wrong way a bit from his first visit experience and said not a single person from the Texas staff met with or talked to him and his family and he felt lost in the shuffle amongst the massive amount of prospects that were on campus that day. Texas was also pretty much the last big school to offer Winfield and didn't jump in the race until shortly before he visited for the Junior Day.

St. Louis (Mo.) De Smet Jesuit Top247 DL Titan Davis — Michigan signee

The Longhorns had an unofficial visit set up for Davis to stop by in April, but he never made it in or took a visit to Texas. However, that didn't stop Texas from reaching out to Davis after the Sherrone Moore fallout. Davis mentioned USC as the other school besides Texas that's contacted him since everything happened with Moore. While the door appears to be cracked open just a tiny bit with Davis, the odds that Davis will stick with Michigan is much higher than if he ends up out of his paperwork and elsewhere.

Pensacola (Fla.) Pine Forest Top247 EDGE Trenton Henderson — LSU signee

Even though Texas came on late, Henderson said he still really considered the Longhorns and that Texas finished in second for him. The main factor he listed as to why he didn't end up at Texas was the Longhorns' depth chart at the EDGE position, which could very well be Texas' best position. LSU's EDGE room wasn't nearly as crowded and offered a quicker path to the field, so he went with the Tigers. He had a top three of LSU, Texas, and Florida but said it was always an LSU vs. Texas race.

Marietta (Ga.) Kell Top247 LB Brayden Rouse — Tennessee signee

The Georgia native said Texas finished in second and while he really considered them, Tennessee was on him so much earlier than the Longhorns were. Rouse also mentioned that he felt like Texas was inconsistent at times and only talking to him and recruiting him because it was their job, whereas he felt like Tennessee made a real effort to actually build relationships and really get to know him and his family. Rouse said he called Johnny Nansen to let him know he was going to Tennessee the day before his commitment, but Nansen never picked up.

DeSoto 2027 three-star RB Sarod Baker

Baker is blessed to be in this year's All-American Bowl and especially because DeSoto has three coaches that are coaching the west team this week. Baker has yet to lock in any visits, but mentioned Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, TCU, and potentially Colorado as the schools he wants to check out on visits this spring. TCU has been recruiting Baker longer than any other program and Baker mentioned the Horned Frogs and Ohio State as being in everyday communication and contacting him more than any other schools.

Orlando (Fla.) The First Baptist Academy 2027 Top247 IOL Reed Ramsier

Ramsier has a top five of Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, and Texas but seemed to open to other schools outside the top five making a run. Nonetheless, Texas is in a really good spot and is the first tier of the top five alongside Alabama. Ramsier plans to attend business school in college and was blown away by the McCombs School of Business during his time in Austin back in the fall when he visited for the Arkansas game. Ramsier's family also had a cool moment when Arch Manning played catch with his little brother before the game. The Florida native loves the Texas campus and plans to be back in the spring before taking an official visit.

San Antonio Roosevelt 2027 Top247 OT Kaeden Scott

The Longhorns were once in the driver's seat for the San Antonio native but the recruitment eventually turned into a Texas vs. Texas A&M recruitment. However, Texas has dropped in the race a bit and now seems to now be behind A&M and potentially LSU and Tennessee as well. The Tigers and Vols are doing a good job recruiting Scott and are working to get him to their campus for visits in the spring, but it's the Aggies who are doing the best job right now.

Chandler (Ariz.) Basha 2027 Top247 OT Jake Hildebrand

Texas made Hildebrand's top 10 he recently put out and while he hasn't visited since his freshman year, the Longhorns are certainly in the race. Hildebrand's mother is from Denton and her side of the family wants Hildebrand to end up in Austin. Hildebrand also told Horns247 that as a kid he fell in love with the movie My All American about Longhorn Legend Freddie Steinmark. Academics are also a big part of the equation for Hildebrand and the Longhorns are standing out in that field as well.

Tustin (Calif.) 2027 Top247 LB Taven Epps

At one point Epps was the Longhorns' first and only 2027 commitment, but he backed out seven months into his pledge. Epps said that Johnny Nansen was barely reaching out to him towards the end and he decided to open it up with plenty of other schools making him feel like a priority. Epps will announce his commitment during the Navy All-American Bowl's broadcast on Saturday, and it will very likely be Oklahoma. Woof…

Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco 2027 three-star CB Jacob Whitehead

The Longhorns are at the front of the race with Texas A&M and Tennessee but might even be the leader. Mark Orphey is running point on the recruitment and Will Muschamp reached out early into his newest Texas tenure and Whitehead is feeling like a priority for the Longhorns. Auburn, Miami, and USC are also in the picture but there's definitely two tiers and that trio of schools is in the second tier. Whitehead visited for the Arkansas home game in November and was blown away by the campus, gameday atmosphere, and play from Texas' defensive backs.

San Antonio Brandeis 2027 three-star ATH Hakim Frampton — Texas A&M commit

The Longhorns haven't reached out to Frampton, but that could change now that he's down the road in San Antonio. Frampton is from California but has bounced between the Golden State and Arkansas due to his father's job, but now he's in the Alamo City. A two-way prospect that's already pledged to Texas A&M, it'll be interesting to see if Texas enters the race.

Aww, Ojo got his feelings hurt that Texas moved on from him after he blindsided them? Poor guy.

For what it's worth, a Lake Ridge coach told me Ojo didn't have any nastiness to him after his junior year. Maybe he developed it this season. Who knows.

Maybe Nansen isn’t the recruiter he used to be

Not too surprising: Despite the 3 star ranking, he is tenacious and has good feet and is pretty strong. For the record, I do t feel the same way about our 3rd signee or Max Wright.

So now Nansen has gotten too comfortable and doesn't want to put in the actual work to land a talented LB out of Cali? Great work! Awesome, Nansen! For fucks sake.

Maybe Muschamp moves on from him. I hope he brings Travaris Robinson with him to help with the S/nickels/CB's

If anyone needs a break from the doom and gloom of the transfer thread, Carlton planting Ojo on his ass is a very satisfying watch

Notes and nuggets from check-in day at the Navy All-American Bowl

Kinda interesting notes on how our pursuits of some targets went after they committed elsewhere/the coach they committed to was fired

Pretty odd wording there
