Well deserved week and a half off after the OSU sweep until May 3 for Sam Houston and then Baylor to end the season.

Pays not to play!

Texas leaped up to #7 in the RPI this morning.

Still think the top 8 tiers look like:

LOCKS - Big 12 champ OU (1), Pac 12 champ UCLA (2), ACC champ FSU (5)
SOLID - Ok State (4), SEC champ Tennessee (9)
LOOKS GOOD - Texas (7), B1G champ Northwestern (6)
IN CONTENTION FOR LAST SPOT - Stanford (3), LSU (8), Duke (10), Louisiana (11), Alabama (12)

I do think that each P5 regular season conference champ being in the top 9 will be enough for them to host (OU, UCLA, FSU, Tenn, NW).  OSU is high enough at 4 with a 41-9 record to host, but that is going to look shaky if they get swept by OU, in which case Stanford might edge up.  Texas' RPI is high enough now with that sweep over Ok State that they should be in if they sweep Baylor (RPI 22). I think what holds Duke, Stanford, Alabama and LSU back right now is their conference standings - Duke is 3rd, Stanford is 4th, Alabama is 5th and LSU is 6th

30% chance of rain Wednesday! SHSU game in slight jeopardy! Fortunately our RPI won’t take as big of a hit against them as say UTSA

Really need to play a game before the Baylor series to hopefully sweep and secure 2nd place in conference, maintain RPI, etc.

Fielding .966 in conference,  highest in MW era (knock on wood).    Be nice to be in the .970's.

The permanent move of Scott to CF really cut down on the errors.  Corona has held down that corner IF spot well with Washington in and out of the lineup.  And Martinez made some early freshman mistakes but has gotten much better.

Finally, not as much of a defensive liability of a team.

Corona is a very solid defensive 3b.  Her hitting isn't the best, but I think most fans pull hard for her.  She's a great teammate.

The sample sizes aren't the same but...

CORONA .343 BA, .780 OPS, .429 SLG, 3 doubles, 1 BB, 1 K, 7 fielding errors

WASHINGTON .248 BA, .722 OPS, .394 SLG, 4 doubles, 4 HR, 11 BB, 13 K, 6 fielding errors

She actually hits better than Washington, but her fielding % is lower, but she's had far less chances.   She is a great teammates who stepped into a big spot in the OSU series in place of Washington.

Also this is fantastic.  And a reminder that the core of this team is 4 true freshmen, 1 RS freshman and 4 sophomores.  Czech, Dayton, Washington and Day are providing the "leadership" - and they are only juniors.

Mac Morgan starting against SHSU tonight. Coach White not messing around

We’ve been off for a while bc of weather and a bye week so I guess it’s fine. Get some rust out

Pulling Mac for Czech...horrible idea

Wouldn’t be shocked if everyone was going to pitch tonight. Just to knock the rust off from a long layoff

That team is absolutely broken right now. You hate to see it.

We owe them another beating in the Big 12 tournament. Where it all started last year - Mike flips the bird, gets tossed, we lose, then beat them 5 straight times

Day, Popelka, Corona and Gilbert will be recognized tonight. All but Gilbert are eligible to return for COVID seasons. Dolcini will also be honored since she is graduating this spring

  • Per the Big 12 Conference, Texas can clinch the number two seed for next week's Big 12 Conference tournament with one of three scenarios:
    • If Texas beats Baylor and Oklahoma defeats Oklahoma State the same night.
    • If Texas wins two games against Baylor over the weekend.
    • If Texas drops all three to Baylor and Oklahoma State defeats Oklahoma only once over the weekend.
