I think we're gonna find that Arch gets the ball out more quickly than Ewers did and that will give the Receivers and RBs extra time to make their moves and break free. This should be Sark's bread and butter. We'll see some quick throws turn into long gainers. Needless to say Manning will have a better feel for the pocket and will get us a few extra first downs with his legs. Seems like Ewers had a tendency to lower his head. Arch needs to get out of bounds after five or fifteen yards and stay healthy. If he can connect on the long balls look out. Combine good pocket movement with a couple of speedy receivers and all hell will break loose.

Would like to see a couple of sixty point offensive blowouts. Add one or two fifty point efforts. It'll be pretty sweet.

Back in the day the Horns used to beat the piss out of almost everybody. Remember Navy with Staubach. #1 vs. #2? Texas 28-6 or something like that.

I like the kid also, but the hype is out of control.  Glad someone said it.  It's getting stupider and stupider.

I like the Film Guy more and more.  Thats a great take about the hype Arch gets.

But before we can start awarding ourselves Victoria Crosses and Congressional Medals of Honors and National Championships and so on and so forth and such like, I think I better point out that (1). We are now preseason number 1 and have a target on our back, (2). We have no hope whatsoever of getting a break from the feckless sports media and that (3). This neck of the woods will soon be crawling with bad tempered aggy, hillbillies from the north and inbred sister fuckers from Arkansas and (4). I don't think that our genius Sgt. Miller there has even got a box of matches left in his suitcase.

And so therefore, I think we can take it, that gentlemen, we are going to have a very long walk home this season.

Making their stories.  Same with voting Texas number 1 and then writing about how we shouldn’t be number 1 and are a dog in game 1 (without really mentioning it’s @ number 2/3 defending champ).

And if they didn't play tOSU, we'd hear constantly how Arch hasn't played against many stout defenses.  They're playing, we'll get a treat to see who is legit, and the loser burns through their schedule in the hopes of a rematch down the road. It'll happen early, but both teams will see areas to work on for their season.  And while one team will have an edge, the other will have a chip.

I get it and like this piece and TFG.  I personally embrace the hate. Bring it. It's good to be king.

That said, these guys weren't around for or have forgotten the level of hype around USC, Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart.

That hype was built off of the previous two seasons.  They weren’t hyped for 2003 but at the end of the season it was good business to discuss them and a shared championship.  Then they had hype and won it all in 04, so the hype for 05 was off the charts.

I guess Texas has a similar path except for the semifinal losses the past two years.  But what we do have is the next manning.

The idea that a younger QB sitting behind a veteran QB means the younger QB cannot be better than the vet is stupid.  VY was better than Mock and Simms.  Pretty much immediately.  Tebow sat behind Chris Leak.  Dak set behind someone who the NFL did not even invite to camp.

Different position, but Barry Sanders was backup to Thurman Thomas for 2 years ('86 & '87), and I think he did okay when he finally became the full-time starter in '88.

At least Thurman Thomas was a damn good back as well.

The thing about #1 Texas vs #2 tOSU is that if Texas wins, the reaction will be "duh, they should" but if tOSU wins the reaction will be "we told you Texas was way overhyped" (even after a road loss by something like 28-27).  These people exist to create controversy and thus clicks.

Texas beat a team with 2 Heisman winners: https://trojanswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/trojans/football/2025/08/14/2005-usc-football-played-best-games-21st-century/85621940007/.

After surviving the scare in South Bend, USC rolled through the rest of the regular season, advancing to face Texas in the national championship game. There, the Trojans dropped a 41-38 heartbreaker to the Longhorns in what is widely considered to be the greatest college football game of all-time. Naturally, it came in at No. 1 in the rankings. Here is what Ubben had to say about the showdown:

"USC had two Heisman winners in its backfield and was riding a 34-game winning streak, eyeing a three-peat as a touchdown favorite. The back-and-forth battle ended with Vince Young skating inside the pylon on fourth-and-5 to put the Longhorns up with 19 seconds left. Young finished with 267 yards passing and 200 yards rushing and a trio of touchdowns.

"USC coach Pete Carroll called it the greatest individual performance he’d ever seen. It was also the highest-rated BCS game ever and was Keith Jackson’s final game in the ABC booth. It is the standard by which all other games in this century are judged."

Almost two decades later, USC fans still recall fond memories of the Bush Push, and are still heartbroken by the Rose Bowl loss to Texas. The lasting impact of those games highlights their significance within the fan base, and why they are rightfully considered to be two of the best college football games of this century, if not of all-time.

 Pretty, pretty good year.

"When I meet new people, they get all excited and ask me about him like he's some sort of superhero," Heid said. "But to me, he's just the same guy who still doesn't know how to work a microwave." “I think Maxpreps posted something like, Arch Manning younger brother rising O-line recruit,” Heid said. “I was not an O-line recruit. I was 5-10, 220 pounds as a center. No one was recruiting me. The less you listen to all the media, I think the better you are.”

Maybe that’s why Arch Manning got off Instagram recently and is known for leaving his phone in his room. For as serious as Arch is about football, he wants to have a normal life, too. After all, they grew up as normal kids. Arch had the famous poster of Michael Jordan’s arms-open wingspan on his wall; Heid had the famous Farrah Fawcett bikini poster.

Heid sounds like he’s actually funny. And not just “sports guy” funny.
