i put this in the freezer (it was room temperature and i wanted to drink it cold) before the hr derby and then forgot about it. this is going to be one cold-ass, potentially less flavorful (?) beer. q: what happens when you freeze your beer like a dumbass? what does it do to the beer?

it slammed and went hard, imo.

Can negatively affect carbonation and flavor, but not necessarily and sounds like it probably didn't have enough time in this case to cause issues. Some beers are purposefully ice-distilled to concentrate flavor, just as wines can be fermented from the must of frozen grapes (which I was a lot more familiar with).

Our weekly happy hour started just before the pandemic, with a short hiatus during the initial stages and then our wives' strictly-enforced six-foot summer spacing on the patio. We drank in the garage during that full Wisconsin winter of 2020-21, which was relatively mild, and had a couple of doors open for air exchange. We usually kept some beer in the fridge (which was really insulation against freezing the beer at that point -- we researched freezing points of various styles and kept a close eye on the stuff in the fridge, which basically didn't run for a few months).

We've had a few that froze, but usually from getting pressed up against the back of the fridge in summer or other bad fridge monitoring. It's less waste than just throwing it away, but not especially good.

Even when we were looking into freeze points, I don't remember reading about ice beers, which I was first exposed to during a trip this May to Leinie's Lodge in Chippewa Falls. They had an ice beer, but it's already off their web page and I'm wondering if they'll do it again. I thought it was pretty solid.

Most (or all) of those big labels with "ice" on them aren't ice beers, are they, @utee94? I figured that one isn't and looked it up, but that's going to be the extent of my looking or I won't get anything done today that's deserving of an evening beer.

Heh, it was a fad for a while in the 90s.  Either just before, or just after, all of the "dry" beers that the macros tried to market.

And then let's not forget the "clear" craze!

Miller Clear Beer

"Don't ask why. Drink Bud Dry!"

they sure did innovate the living hell out of beer flavored water during dem days. Dry. Ice. Premium. Red Dog.  All of it was shit, but if it was on sale, I probably tried it.  No wonder i didn't like beer until much later in life.

Miller "Genuine Draft" and Michelob "Golden Draft" and Coors "Extra Gold" in the 80s, even before all that.

Here we have Duff, Duff Lite, and our newest flavor, Duff Dry : r/TheSimpsons

My uncle’s beer fridge. This man owns 1,000 acres of Iowa farmland worth roughly $13K/acre.

He chose this life.

I'm still looking for a place that will sell singles of all three of the OMs in @Al_4_ISU's uncle's beer fridge to try at happy hour. I could go to Milwaukee, I guess, or just buy a sixer of each -- likely not to cost much more than three decent craft singles.

But then we'd have to drink 'em all, because we don't even throw out frozen beer.

delicious was an accurate descriptor. very pleased with my first try of any of stone’s offerings. i’ll try the other two ipa’s that came in my sick pack over the next two days, and they’ve got a lot to live up to.

we sold our first $18 4-packs last month, but it was an 8.2% hazy double IPA.

Yeah, I will spend that readily, but not for American lagers.

Santa Barbara, holla.

I could have stayed there all night but some wedding group came in and the best man was the loudest, most obnoxious shitbird I’ve seen in a long time. Went to Figueroa Mtn after that but they were closing at 8:30 for some reason.

Pretty tasty.  I'm getting where the hot weather makes me crave these.  I'm here for that developing situation.  LOL  Trips to the beer store feel like they are about 33% more variety available now that IPAs are not an auto-reject for me.

Saint Arnold - Lawnmower, 4.9 Alc. 👍

Been meaning to try this one for a while, but honestly wasn't expecting much. I guess I tend to be leery of lighter beers billed as summer style. While this one is crisp and clean, it has flavor and definitely isn't a light beer. @Horn80

That’s my desert island beer. Never a bad time for a Lawnmower.

I'll tell you what....

If they can unfuck their distribution, perhaps it will be on the shelves in time for the first episode of the series relaunch. Hopefully its worth a shit, but I cant recall having any of their beers, which is odd since its brewed not too far away. Anyone familiar with their work?

New offering from Abita.  Little on the sweet side, IMHO.  Needs a higher ABV with the heavy flavors.

Higher than it already has, or do you mean that 8.0 is about right?

Peanut is, along with dill pickle, one of the two flavors of beer I've been consciously avoiding. I do like white stouts. And if you keep making those IPA efforts you've shared lately, @Iceman, I might try one of the peanut beers out of commitment to trying new beers.

I would agree that the peanut flavor doesn't really turn me on either.  I did not think of pouring it, but it most definitely had a screwball whiskey type opening; then the sweet, I guess marshmallow flavor is at the finish. For a beer this heavy on the flavors, I'd rather see a 10+ ABV.

DeLaVega in New Mexico has a pecan beer that is freaking badass. My 2nd favorite from there after the LaCumbre Hefe.

Will have to keep an eye out for De La Vega, but I suspect it's hard to come by up here. Just looked up the brewery and I guess I'm going to have to take a Route 66 tour to pick one up. Good-lookin' label, too.

I've had the 512 Pecan Porter and Shiner's Holiday Cheer (with peach and pecan) and liked them both alright. Pecan seems like a more natural fit than peanut, which is kinda overwhelming.

Have you had that Green Chile Cerveza from Sierra Blanca, @Iceman? That reminds me to post my beers from the other night, from Bent River Brewing in Moline, IL. A coffee stout, an IPA, a pepper ale and a wheaty blonde. The jalapeño ale had the best pepper flavor I've had in a beer so far, without any overwhelming heat. Definitely my favorite of the bunch.

I've seen lots of mango habanero and had a few, and I've really liked a couple. But that's the first I've heard of a strawberry habanero.

You'd think that if it was a natural flavor combo, it would be seen in a few more cocktails -- especially margaritas. Seen lots of pineapple-pepper and mango-pepper margaritas, but don't think I've ever seen the strawberry.

Anyway, good flavor in the Bent River product. I've had a few pepper beers and most just have more bite. This had actual taste.
