Looking to book a few days in Seattle the first week of June. Will stay somewhere in Queen Anne. We’d like a morning hike within an hour of town. I’ve done Rattlesnake Ledge twice. Something like Little Si looks similar and about our speed. Any recs?

was beautiful and a high of 65F.

Although 1,200 feet of elevation gain over 2 miles was no joke.

  • Just got back from a week in Seattle and Olympic NP. Awesome trip, beautiful area. Houston really looks and feels like a shithole by comparison this morning. A few places I’d recommend in the Fremont

  • Been off Surly for a while but my wife ended up accepting that job offer and started in late May. We hit the road out of Houston a month ago and are renting in Greenwood in North Seattle. Glad we went

Nice.  Little Si has a little larger elevation gain, but it's more gradual than I remember Rattlesnake Ledge.  It still got my heart rate up on a couple stretches.

Eyeing a trip to Seattle in mid-October. Full on rain season by then, or decent chance we'll get some dry days?

It might actually be fantastic. Or not.

I went on a spectacular backpacking trip in October 2003 or so.

But if it rains, just embrace it. It's Seattle.

Could be either. Won’t be warm though.

I’ve got a tee time out at Snowqualmie Ridge in mid- October and god knows what the weather will be like.

I was in Seattle last weekend. First time in a few years that we've spent time in the city and not gone to one of the state/national parks. Several things I want to say

  • Holy shit downtown Seattle is disgusting. The homeless problem was bad the last time we went but it has gotten much worse. The mornings we saw a ton of them congregate at block corners to sell each other drugs, bags, electronics, etc. At night we saw them shoot up and insulin needle caps all over the sidewalk. A few screaming at the sky who would later try and follow us on our trek to another hotel because our first one had their AC fucked up. Many of the shops are closed off and employees have to let you in after you ring a doorbell.
  • Seattle's train system is fucking awesome. We took it to and from T Mobile Park with no issues whatsoever. Wish we could do that going to Rangers games.
  • Speaking of Rangers games, T Mobile Park is also fucking awesome. The food is really good, staff is friendly, and the seating is great. It's like night and day going to a Rangers game where I'm having to stand up and sit down every fucking half inning. Seattle fans actually enjoy watching baseball.
  • Foooooooooood. The Asian food in Seattle is unreal.
  • Lots of people wearing masks.

For point 1 you just gotta know the areas to avoid.  The area right by the water and skyscrapers is spectacular. Best downtown run I’ve had

Flying home right now from a week in Seattle. Had a great time. Didn’t notice too much in terms of homeless issues in town. Mariners game was great and having the club level tickets with the entrance/bridge next to the parking lot was super convenient.

Did alot of the usual tourist stuff in town like Pike Place, Museum of Pop Culture, waterfront near Gas Works park. Also record shopping and went to just about all the breweries I wanted.

Even better parts were getting outside of town to Snoqualmie Falls, Mt Rainer National Park and the gondola ride up to Summit at Crystal Mountain. Never had salmon chowder before nor salmon fish and chips and did so several times on this trip.

Did you happen to hit the brewery in Snoqualmie right up the road from the Falls?

If not, next time.

I did not but we went to Volition in North Bend, No Boat there in Snoqualmine and Dr Bru in Snoqualmine Pass. However mdmost and I will do a future Mariners game trip and will add that to the list. Thanks for the info!

Anyone been to the Ballard Locks? I see it mentioned a lot, but maybe I am not seeing the attraction.

The locks are kind of a neat engineering feat.

It's fun to sit and watch boats come through them.  It's cool to see the salmon in the salmon ladder.

If you lived there you should see them.  If you're a tourist, the locks would be pretty low on the list unless you're into boating.

Locks aren't a destination, that's for sure- but if you're in Ballard and it's a nice day, it's a great place to walk off the ice cream from Salt and Straw

Sounds like you didn't make it up to Capitol Hill?

Spending a weekend in Seattle with the wife in January. First time there for both of us. I see some food recs in this thread that I plan to take advantage of...don't plan to do any hiking...what else should we try to see?

It seemed touristy, but my wife and I loved grabbing a drink at the rotating bar at the top of the space needle. But it was a clear day in June, and I'm not sure it'll be the same experience in January.

I recommended this earlier in the thread, but the Seattle Underground tour is really damn fascinating. https://undergroundtour.com/

Spend a couple hours a the Museum of Popular Culture.

Stroll through the Pike Place Market, preferably in the morning before it gets too crowded. If you're renting a place that has a full kitchen, pick up some fresh fish and produce and cook dinner.

Pike Place and that underground tour are definitely on the list - thanks! Let me dig in on the "MuPop"... :)

I would try to see how much Pliny the Elder I could drink.

01) If you are staying downtown, taking the monorail to the Space Needle/Museum of Popular Culture and back is somewhat novel.

02) For a "cheapish lunch" grab something at Pike Place Market to go and then head to the back side of the market where there is a big deck overlooking the Sound (weather pending)

03) Museums are expensive! (Popular Culture, Aquarium, Seattle Art Museum, Chihuly)

04) If you have a car and the weather is nice, take a look at Snoqualmie Falls (no hiking involved and free).

There is a half mile path down to the bottom of the falls that gives a nice view, if you can make the decent slope down and back up. And if the structure is still there after the floods. There’s a casino there also.

FYI, it will be 42 degrees and raining. Just plan for it. Get a nice jacket and embrace it.

Kells Irish Pub in Post Alley just up from the market is a cool place to hang out, especially on cold rainy days. And especially if some old guy named Ian or Finn or Conor is playing Irish music inside.
