  1. My company laid off 9,000 or so Americans effective April 17, so the numbers for next month will be reflective. Go to any consulting company subreddit and there’s evidence that this is widespread. I know Accenture, Deloitte, BAH, and dozens of others did the same. But we have over 10,000 openings in India. Thanks for your explanation of what I’m sure is government’s best good faith attempt at measuring employment numbers, but I don’t believe them for a second. All the WARN act did was make companies reduce headcount in stealth mode. I’m in Federal markets, and if those job losses were included then we’d have an even more dramatic shitty employment numbers. I’m inclined to not believe a single metric reported by this administration. Our own VP of government affairs, a former chief of staff to the secretary of commerce under a previous administration reported in an internal call this week that job losses at the federal level are in the hundreds of thousands. Actually, your explanation explains perfectly why the mass firings took place later in the month. And what about the hordes of contractors who simply had stop work orders?
  2. So what is Scottie’s winning score going to be? -30? I know it’s only Friday, but who can catch him?
  3. I wouldn’t hate playing 3 twice, but then again I use that magnificent heaven like a daily fee, calling the day prior and getting squeezed on wherever they have a spot. Maybe one day I’ll stay at the resort so I can play 2 and the others.
  4. Congrats JGrayDBU. My wife bought back a few years of ERS for $18k and her retire date is 5 years from yesterday. She’s gonna have a fun time doing whatever she wants while I still work for 10 years. I was overweight on NVDA and jumped out north of $114. I’d forgotten that I had a standing sell order for $140 until I got an error message. Replenished my dry powder for later this year.
  5. I still have PTSD from the mountains of shit Phelan and Covey shoveled into my mailbox last year. Every single fucking day it was crammed full of propaganda. I live on a private drive now but the same goes for door hangers and flyers. Tv? Everytime I turned it on someone was screaming “Dade Phelan is the lab grown cross between Joe Biden, Ho Chi Minh, Vladimir Lenin, and chairman Mao!!!!!!11!!!” Covey canvassers forced their way into Dade’s living room when he wasn’t home and harassed his wife, and wouldn’t leave until DPS forcibly removed them. Then they stationed a trooper in front of his house for the remainder of campaign season. I personally had a MAGA clad asshole covey supporter come into my garage while I was sweeping to start an argument. Then another young adult stopped by and wanted to take a survey, and when I told him he should be ashamed he looked at the ground and said “look, man, I’m just trying to earn some money and they are paying well” which made me feel horrible and apologize for being an asshole. Just typing this post makes me tremble in rage. It’s a stupid bill but I can appreciate the motivation. Covey and his fracking backers tried to ratfuck him and thank god he won the runoff - this time.
  6. Sigh. I served on student government with this guy, and he was my next door neighbor for a few years. I was too busy drinking Bill Clinton’s liquor to really notice his wackiness, but in hindsight I am not surprised. https://www.reddit.com/r/LeopardsAteMyFace/s/xYfrDVt7Pn Edit - my opposite side neighbor was David Crowder.
  7. That was my reaction as well. And it was done so well most straight people had no idea.
  8. My kid’s professor at Mizzou came up with the sonic guys, won a ton of awards. He told the class that according to focus groups they were the most positively viewed gay couple in America.
  9. That whooshing sound is me falling into a bamboo rod internet wormhole.
  10. Every time I walk into my laundry room, seething with irritation at my wife’s habits, I think of you and just let those resentments slip away. And I kiss her on the head and thank God that lack of housekeeping is her most glaring character defect, and I thank him again for her putting up with my cranky ass. In all seriousness, holy shit that 10 years flew by. What a wonderful transformation! Congratulations and bro hugs.
  11. pch is the guy I want to be when I grow up. Happy Birthday, my friend. And thank you for carrying the message. Guys, I showed up at his home group and he was so welcoming, and it was plainly obvious that many in the room owe their sobriety to him. I only wish I had more opportunity to be able to drop in. Anybody know of any good meetings in the Washington DC beltway? Those seem to be my new workweek stomping grounds.
  12. lol you’re fucking with me right?
  13. I always wondered about those bites to landings ratios. Man I am always so jealous of your posts, but I’ll bet it’s a lot of work, and way more $$ than I spend. I was able to sleep late, go catch a few reds and specks in the marsh, and have the boat washed down in time to watch golf. After spending the last two weeks in DC for work I just needed some outdoor time.
  14. Get both eyes done, and splurge for premium lenses. Best decision I’ve ever made. 20/10 eyesight after wearing glasses for 35 years.
  15. He’s aping Ted Cruz here right, with the upside down spinning rod?
  16. And he is Stroud’s carpool partner, and is an old soul. He might be a coach after his playing career. He might be the most emotionally stable, loyal man in the entire world.
  17. I was pulling for Novak to not pull that putt on 18. Here we go playoff.
  18. That bullseye is cool. My son’s recteq 590 sat covered on his back porch in NC while he was deployed to Poland and to Kuwait and when he moved to Colorado Springs his auger/motor was clogged and shit the bed. One call to customer service, and they’re sending him all new components at no charge. And now recteq is going retail; my locally-owned ace hardware boutique (M &D) recently started stocking the whole line, including accessories. So I got to see the bullseye up close. Last weekend I ordered custom patio furniture from the outfit (Balboa co) that installed fireplaces for my dad and grandfather’s home building business for 50 years, and he has the full line of Yoders. I don’t know if I’m ever going to spend 3k on a pellet grill, but they are so nice. I’m about to go outside and prep my 590 to smoke a beef tenderloin for tomorrow.
  19. Do you go to Avalon?
  20. Well, I think you’re wrong. Steamed crawfish is a near religious experience for people who actually want to taste that sweet tender meat. The key is resting them for 20 minutes and tossing the cooler every 5 minutes.
  21. A tributary of the Calcasieu River, Moss Bluff, LA. Boudreaux central. The kid with the gar and mullet is who I want to be when I grow up. Pure country joy. Has his own pony and cows to herd and a daddy who rodeos. Killed his first gator at 4. No shit, his government name is Bear Fontenot. To break down the crawfish recipe, it’s steamed crawfish bathed in equal parts vinegar and lemon juice, a quart of minced garlic, a lb of butter, and a little swamp dust. There is maybe 2 inches of water in the pot to cook that whole basket. We did 93 lbs.
  22. Sat in QBRs in Bethesda today and one of the directors caught me laughing to myself and asked if I had something to add. I said “no, not out loud.” What I should have said was “everybody chill. We’re in a particularly nasty iteration of the simulation, and no amount of stress can reverse the systemic breakage occurring right now.” One of the VPs actually has a practice around how to profit from DOGE destruction. I can’t wait to see that deck. Still, after spending my first week scrambling around the beltway I’m spent. And I get to do it again next week.
