No way. This is an annual celebration of my wife's parents, both of whom passed in the last couple of years. They are WAY old school Austinites (my wife and most of her siblings were born here, Austin High holla) and El Mercado was the family TexMex joint. Can't change history. I'll live.

I eagerly await the scowls of disapproval over my alcohol intake coming from my Baptist preacher in-law.

Yeah, but you enjoyed the dirty mopwater ambience, right?
  5. I'm not particularly optimistic about this series, given Auburn's recent hot streak and our injury situation. A 2-1 series win for the good guys would be a relief.
  6. Oh I agree, and didn't mean to imply otherwise. I don't know if they'd have to flip the actual broadcast teams or what. It seems like a solvable problem.

And? Any recs for something edible at El Mercado (Burnet Road)? Not my choice, it's an in-law thing I have to attend. I hate that place. Straight tequila?
  8. Tangent: in case anyone hasn't seen this, RATM came out of the womb fully formed. First gig, 1991. Tom Morello had already graduated Harvard. You can hear it all here in the early days, they knew what they wanted to do and they damn well did it. (Morello is such a dork.)
  9. I heard that on FM radio last night. Christ, what a band. That song just burns.
  10. I can't answer your second question, I imagine there are some logistical issues, but the original channel lineup makes sense. Preseason D1 rankings: 1. Texas A&M 5. Arkansas 19. Texas NR Auburn
  11. My main takeaway from this thread? Law school must suck even more than I ever could have imagined.

So remove the poorly cooked bacon?

    Burgers

I mentioned on another thread that we grabbed some burgers from the Buddha Burger truck on Metric. Damn good burgers. A clear step up from the budget world (P Terry's, Phil's, Mighty Fine) and easily competive with Top Notch and HopDoddy. I'd put Workhorse ahead on the back stretch, though.
  15. I work a bit south of the Buddha Burger food truck on Metric, so I picked up some cheeseburgers, fries and onion rings tonight. Vertict: burgers were very very good, a clear step up from the P Terry's / Mighty Fine / Phil's / Top Notch / Hopdoddy realm. Fries were "eh". Onion rings were quite good. We will return. Throw some business their way.
  16. Where is this Branch Davidian wannabe compound?
  17. Maybe, but 1350 snaps in the Pac 12 & Big 12 is a little different than 1350 snaps in the NFL. We'll see. It will definitely be an interesting experiment.
  18. I know I'd be eager to come to the US on a student visa at this point in time. What could go wrong?
  19. She likely smells like pickles and lutefisk.
  20. I'd be willing to bet he will cost roughly the same as any good player on a per-play basis. I suspect any "value" is in his ability to serve as a backup, although even that would probably poach his main position should he be called into service.
  21. Oh damn, that was a poorly landed joke indeed.
  22. Are you suffering any numbness in your face? Arm weakness? Can you speak OK?
  23. We fell from 1 to 8?
