  1. I don't think so. I think he just sang it over a backing track that the producers had already recorded. Did he overdub the solo maybe? Today I learned his actual name was "Rick Zehringer".
  2. I was alluding to champions of what are typically weak conferences. But, logic would suggest that if there isn't much innerconnectivity between conferences (and even regions) then they need to get a shot.
  3. There are 307 D1 teams. A 64 team playoff represents roughly the top 20%. Cutting that field down, PARTICULARLY when a lack of interplay makes it difficult to assess relative strength, is nuts. The goal should be to find the 64 teams that had the best 64 seasons, minus whatever "everybody gets a medal" autoqualify bullshit must be tolerated.
  4. By my count, Texas played 54 games against 29 teams. Major league squads play 162 games against 29 teams. Kinda different.
  5. To get back to the professional model: I can't think of a sport where the goal isn't to reward the best season. Nobody would moan that an NFL team started out 10-0 and then went 0-7 and still got into the playoffs. In favor of lesser teams? I don't think that's reasonable at all. They have to find 64 teams, so they might as well find the best 64 (minus whatever chaff get in through auto-qualify). You yourself touted ISR. By that standard, the SEC had 14 of the top 46 teams in the country. Why should 6 of those be excluded from the playoffs?

"around" might be arguable, but Curra's is generally very good up on Duval ~ 42nd St. Some OG east side spots are within reach, too. You walking?
  7. You did imply it shouldn't be top 50. Maybe that's true in your estimation, but clearly a lot of people disagree. This isn't a case of someone claiming Johnny Carino's is great Italian food.
  8. I wonder if we could get A&M kicked out of the conference?
  9. Well, Ole Miss finished tied for 7th in the SEC but is the 9th best conference team as per ISR (#20). They were above 0.500 in conference, though (16-14). OU finished 11th in conference but is #28 ISR. I'm pretty comfortable with both making a 64 team field.
  10. I wouldn't wait 2 hours for Franklin, time is not the issue. People like the food and dig the experience. Oh, the horror.
  11. You said, and I quote "She makes damn good bbq." That's not the same thing as DIckies'. You've eaten a lot of great Texas 'Q. Good for you. The world already has enough purist gate-keepers, maybe stop trying to prove your bona fides quite so hard?
  12. Here's a concept: maybe Snow's works for some, not for others. Lather, rinse, repeat. Yeezus.
  13. Ah dammit that looks like a great show @Celery Man.
  14. Are there any pro sports that subjectively seed? Tennis ranks players to determine tournament draws, but I think that's purely algorithmic. Tie-breakers to determine playoff seeds in sports like football might seem silly in some cases, but at least any bias is cooked in and there isn't a room full of old guys throwing their opinions into the mix. If the Chiefs win their division but lose Mahomes right before the playoffs they aren't going to get dropped into a wild card position. Play on.
  15. Actually, I'm not fond of taking injuries into account. It presumes that a team can't perform as well with the next guy up. While this is quite predictable in some instances -- the Bulls couldn't win it all when Michael Jordan was dabbling in baseball -- I think it's more of a gray area in baseball and football. Why should a team be penalized for a late season injury, anyway? Where is the rationale for saying we want the top 64 teams RIGHT NOW instead of the top 64 teams over the course of the season?
  16. Yeah, now I remember Boyd & ISR. I can totally see a statistical presentation going over like a lead balloon at a coaches' convention. Regardless, if that bias is built into the RPI algorithm, we're faced with a likely majority of coaches not at all interested in change.
  17. I'm not defending RPI, but what are the demonstrated biases, and what alternative ranking systems do better? I'm not fond of the human element.
  18. I usually sit over in that area. I cringe when I see kids or casual fans down there -- it's a good place to get your head taken off. Saw it happen to a Mizzou fan who was not paying attention, and he just got flattened. He was able to walk out but it looked bad at first.
  19. I had the displeasure of seeing the first response and gutwrenching aftermath when a kid was run over and killed in the OSP parking lot. Shit happens everywhere.
  20. The two parks could hardly be more different. I've spent an immense amount of time at Old Settlers (well, the RR Multipurpose Complex) watching soccer and those facilities are fantastic. Other than that, it's a suburban park in . . . a suburb. Zero character in a zero character neighborhood. If that's what you want, knock yourself out.
  21. Well let's be honest, one cannot deny the scenic beauty one encounters when driving along 79 to Old Settlers Park. Old Settlers Boulevard is a nice alternative, and equally stunning.
  22. Got it, thanks.
  23. Where did they rank Franklin?
