  1. Trump has 91 criminal charges filed against him in 4 separate indictments. Bolsonaro has zero, and only a "recommendation" that charges be filed. Why is the latter an example of holding someone accountable, while the former is not?
  2. Don't know how you all do it in Texas, but here's how it works where I practice: 1) Doubt is raised over the competency of a defendant 2) Criminal Proceedings are suspended for "restoration of competency." Defendant is sent to a lockdown mental hospital and can remain there for up to 3 years. 3) If, after 3 years (or sooner if max punishment on the charges is under 3 years), it does not appear that the defendant will be restored to competency, the case can be dismissed OR the state can try for a Conservatorship in which the defendant can be sent to a lockdown mental hospital, potentially for life. 1a) If defense tries for the "not guilty by reason of insanity defense" then even if the jury/judge returns with a "NGI" verdict, the defendant is sent to a lockdown mental hospital until sanity can be restored; or until the defendant reaches the maximum exposure. In practice, an NGI defense can provide false hope for a defendant as they often spend longer in a locked facility than they would had they simply taken a plea deal for prison.
  3. Reading only the title of the thread, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume OP is blaming the Jews.
  4. Don't you live in OC? Kinda burying the lede there...
  5. someone was successfully extorted in New York?
  6. hilarious thanks for the laugh
  7. Amazing. 1) Its the dems fault for not doing a better job stopping this! 2)But also, how dare you bring politics into this!
  8. A lot of people would be on board with this. The issue is your second item on the list - inalienable rights. About 80% of our political battles lie in trying to define which rights are inalienable.
  9. I think we just watched the internet break someone's brain in real time holy shit
  10. Sorry, yes. I didn't read your original question with that in mind and was thinking more about the strategy behind winning the senate seat.
  11. CA has an open primary. The ballot had like 20+ candidates from all parties. What is the advantage to the Democratic party if they had not "allowed" Porter to run?
  12. The kitchen speech from last night? Should have had her do it from the driver's seat of a F-150 while going 47 in a 35 wearing Oakleys
  13. I can't think of a more appropriate "Leopards Eating People's Faces" moment than voting for a guy who has a platform that will retroactively seek to strip you of US citizenship and put you on a plane to a country you've never been to.
  14. I too thought OP was crazy but then I took a deeper look at the evidence in the OP, and it's really hard to argue with that.
  15. How about for vets hearing voices and suffering from paranoid delusions?
  16. This is the least surprising thing I've ever read in my entire life
  17. It can be done. I coordinate a diversion program out of a court that accepts clients charged with crimes that have a nexus between the offense and the diagnosis (can be alcoholism or addiction.) They are linked to a case manager, a program serving their individual needs, and they have regular court dates for progress reports. We just celebrated our 2000th graduation and have a non-recidivism rate of just over 90%. Services can remain in place even after the case is dismissed. Wouldn't be possible but for a statute passed by the CA leg that our office helped write and push through.
