  1. Those “low flow” toilets are…crap. We installed 3 like that photo and replaced all three because the extra forceful “water saving” flush splashes bowl water on the seat and floor. I fought with Kohler and they replaced all three. I was insistent. The lady rep came all the way from San Antonio. I showed her the bowl water on the seat after a flush and asked if she wanted to have a seat. Kohler sent new toilets.
  2. You mention that your giftee will be signing many documents. If signature is the main use, you might include a couple of different nibs with the pen. There are various widths and even calligraphy nibs. You can create your own special signature by changing to a different nib and practicing a little. I liked using a fountain pen because it sort of "forced" me to write more slowly which gave me time to think about what I was writing. I enjoy writing personal notes and people seemed to respond positively, knowing that I had taken time to write a note which was obviously personal. Of course, there is a time and place for the speed and simplicity of an email, but I think there is also a time and place for a handwritten greeting. My favorite pen is a Parker Duofold International in Pearl and Black. They have been out of production for several years, but there are plenty on ebay. You didn't mention price point. The Duofold must be pretty collectable because they have doubled in price since I bought mine, but you don't have to spend big bucks. Levenger makes several attractive and functional pens.
  3. I'm hesitant to interrupt the pizza kerfuffle, but...according to the googletrons the amount of water in the earth's atmosphere remains relatively stable. There is drought in North America. There is drought in Europe. It never rains in Africa. Where is all the water?
  4. Fountain pens have a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it they can make the act of writing a pleasure. No way to know if your giftee will have the patience to muscle through the curve.
  5. How much y’all losing to evaporation these 100+ days?
  6. I was just pulling fireman 4's chain when I said "fancy lodge". I spent several years in a college dorm room. I can take less than fancy. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  7. Yeah, we're pretty late getting started on this. I may be asking about the sites in Waco.
  8. No kids. Fancy lodge. End of September first of October 4 days. Easy hiking...olds...but not crippled.
  9. I see Yellowstone and Tetons, but nothing on Yosemite. Please give advice, best entrances, hotels, side trips, etc. Sorry if I messed it.
  10. Please expand on the steam oven comment. I have heard good things, but have no experience.
  11. When it comes to odors in the house I am, admittedly, persnickety. I had dreams of my son bringing home his college friends and me cooking burgers on the griddle. Nope.
  12. Addendum: My Viking had a griddle. Used it exactly one time. It stunk up the house and was a bitch to clean. Get an outdoors griddle.
  13. Give her a break man. Do you know how much energy it takes to waddle 60 feet?
  14. I was disappointed in Viking. Never worked 100% properly, which I expected for that price point. Going with Wolf now. Too early to tell. Gas cook top and electric oven is what all the salesmen and designers say, hell if I know why. My experience is that top vent works better. Downdraft tends to pull the heat away from the burner plus cooking odors/smoke come from the top of the pot, not the bottom. Get as much draft as you can. I suggest the Suck Master 5000. Seriously Vent-a-Hood with dual fans is good.
  15. RIP Paul Sonntag RIP Claudia Rutt
  16. I used to plan my work arrival time around the start of his program. I learned so much about music. His program cost me hundreds in. LP purchases. I still have three copies of The Android Sisters “Songs of Electronic Despair” I wanted to make sure I never wore one out
  17. Having recently "assisted" my parents in their declining years and eventual death, I have told my wife that when the time comes, find the best facility you can find, come see me twice a week, make sure I have a working computer and tv, and bring two handles of Glen Livet each visit. I'm only half joking. Spending 5 years (of my "Golden Years") taking care of declining parents has shown me that one of the horrible things about AD is that the person becomes...an inconvenience...a burden. That's a hard thing to say but it is the truth. As Mo said above, "you've gotta die of something." $20B annually could built some decent facilities...and that's another thing, "decent" doesn't have to be the Driscoll Hotel. Cinder block construction, good lighting, plastic covered mattresses, that is adequate. When someone shits the bed two or three times a day ease of clean up becomes the priority, not Stiffel lamps with crystal bobbles. Over staff the place. Don't use "the minimum required by law." And we've got to get over the notion that *judicious* use of medications is wrong. If a medication can bring a person out of a snit, or a rage, or a hallucination, then use the damn medication. The patient will be more comfortable, and the staff will not get furious with the patient which leads to abuse. I know it would only be a matter of time, a short time, before graft and corruption would set in, but I think it might be 20 Bill better spent as opposed to some medication chase that appears to be going no where. Oh, and when you find the corruption, put the mother fuckers in prison. Not just some bullshit fine. Lock 'em up. They are stealing from the most vulnerable in our society. They are monsters.
  18. Same. I was pleasantly surprised.
  19. I don't find this on the Lucas page. What model is it?
  20. Spicewood Rd. at 360. Zip. Zero. Nada.
  21. Screw this take over stuff. Where does one acquire that leather trench coat? I want that coat. I want it. Never be an opportunity to wear it but it would look bitchin' in the closet...or on the coat rack in the entry.
  22. I'm getting conflicting reports. We've just had a major pool rebuild, plaster and everything. Part of the reason is that the skimmer was leaking to the support structure below...the pool is suspended. Replacing the support structure was a major part of the expense so I am anxious to not have chlorinated water on the steel structure again. The builder took out the skimmer saying adequate floor jets and pump pressure would take care of it and no skimmer would be required. What says surl. PS no trees close so no leaves. PPS it is a negative edge pool and the builder says the basin acts as a skimmer since all the water eventually goes over the negative edge into the basin which has filters.
  23. Santana III, aka “The Man with the Outstretched Hand” is a desert island album for me. Get well, Carlos.
  24. Fireworks over the 360 Bridge last night. Happy 3rd of July??
