  1. waited in line at that very tower records to purchase it at midnight the day it was released.
  2. built to spill at antone's last night. first time seeing them as a trio, the songs were fare more sparse than i'm accustomed to. doug martsch played some combination of rhythm and lead on most songs, for a few songs he never touched the lead part which was weird. the bass player was very talented, she filled in some of the guitar parts on bass...but i also felt like she rushed the tempo at times. good setlist, i would hurt a fly was killer. unfortunately no carry the zero. overall good, but needed more guitar.
  3. As I have found out, this is not always true. Depends on the Ranger working that entrance. Some will do it, some won't.
  4. Live stream happening tonight: https://www.hihowareyou.org/
  5. this is possibly the most awkward trying to be cool rock band i have ever seen.

I was actually curious what you thought of the Night Beats album. It is so different. Myself, I prefer the more raw sound of the previous albums. Reminds me of when The Black Keys switched from self producing/recording in Patrick's basement to working with Dangermouse. A little too smooth in my opinion. I've only listened to it once and it didn't do much for me on first listen.

new night beats and deerhunter albums out today. night beats is pretty different from their previous stuff...it's just the guitarist now and he recorded it with nashville studio musicians.

    Pink Floyd

got the deviation box set for christmas. the blu-ray has some fantastic video footage. atom heart mother live performance from hyde park with orchestra and choir is something.
  11. been to red rocks, hollywood bowl, and stubb's. red rocks is by far the best, just an amazing place. hollywood bowl was cool in a historic sense but not really that great, worth visiting once. stubb's isn't even the best venue in austin, but on a nice spring/fall evening when it's not packed and sweaty it can be a great place.
  12. the apartment complex at 183/Loyola named sixty 600, and the address is 6600. bothers me every time i drive by there.
  13. He went on at 9:10 and played til about 10:45.
  14. 1. Ghost- Prequelle: Probably their most mainstream accessible album, but it's still great. Strong 80's metal vibes...and a sax solo. Favorite Track: Faith https://youtu.be/hYpTINMyqcE 2. Spiritualized- And Nothing Hurt: A slow, mellow psych record that couldn't sound more like Spiritualized. The production is weird and the songs aren't perfect but i still love it. A fitting final album. Favorite Track: Here It Comes https://youtu.be/nuYKUWM_o60 3. Acid Dad- self titled: Garage-punk with excellent guitar work. One of the better acts I saw during sxsw this year. The album doesn't quite capture the live show but it's a very solid debut effort. Favorite Track: Marine https://youtu.be/Qttx84snC_I 4. Moondoggies- A Love Sleeps Deep: Their best album since their debut. Great Americana rock, the keys and pedal steel on this really shine in comparison to their older material. These guys are very underrated, one of the best shows I saw this year...and about 15 people there. Favorite Track: Cinders https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCA_tKk0p80 5. All Them Witches- ATW: Slow burning blues psych, less exploratory noodling and more riffs than their last album. Favorite Track: Harvest Feast https://youtu.be/kIpl1rHdh4U 6. Buxton- Stay Out Late: Americana, more folk and less rock than the Moondoggies. They have a unique sound and good songwriting. Some of their songs have a haunting quality. Favorite Track: Bood Runs Blue https://youtu.be/-DcLugXnqJw 7. Still Corners- Slow Air: This falls into the "dream pop" category with atmospheric songs and soft vocals. There are more upbeat songs and guitar solos than what I would typically think of for the genre. I find it to be a very enjoyable, relaxing album. Favorite Track: The Message https://youtu.be/p50k_kklM7g 8. Wooden Shjips- V: I'm a sucker for their heavy droning psych sound. If you want to get stoned, sit on the couch and mindlessly listen to an album this is the perfect one. Favorite Track: Golden Flower https://youtu.be/QqlzORBNAcg 9. Donkeys- Sun Damaged Youth: A post apocalyptic concept album about surfers/skaters in California. Lots of surf guitar and organ, and some synth thrown in. Favorite Track: Kool Kids https://youtu.be/Kr6ZGN9lYaE 10. Dead Meadow- The Nothing They Need: They return to the stoner rock riffs that defined them. Their best effort in a while. Favorite Track: Here with the hawk https://youtu.be/Hr24tntCnTY
  15. kurt vile at acl live. the place was not very full...floor was at maybe 75% and it looked like there were about 20 people in upper seating. his latest album is probably my least favorite of his stuff, but the song choices from that album were mostly the ones I like. the first three songs felt a little flat but the band seemed to pick things up a bit after I'm an Outlaw. the rest of the set was really good...kv crimes was the highlight for me. he played about 12 guitars over the course of the night and played acoustic more than i recall from the previous times i've seen him.
  16. posted my thoughts in the live musical performance review thread. overall i enjoyed it but thought it was a little boring at times.
  17. i saw spiritualized at the parish around 2002-2003, and they were playing an in store at waterloo the following day. i got the time wrong and showed up like an hour after they played. jason pierce was sitting by himself behind that little counter by all the dvd's just kind of staring into space. i talked to him for about 10 minutes about their show the previous night and about music in general, he was very nice and seemed like a down to earth guy.
  18. gary clark jr. i've seen him at sxsw and opening for other people, but this is the first proper set i've seen. it was good but i wasn't blown away. he does this thing where he gets stuck playing this one style of solo that's very staccato and choppy sounding, he did that for like 6 songs in a row at the beginning of the set and it was pretty tiring. it was refreshing when he brought out a couple of other guitarists to share solos...paul walker and some other guy? eventually he changed it up and got into more of a groove and that's where the set was at its best. definitely moments of greatness, also moments of boredom. 2 hours did pass very quickly though. was pretty surprised when he brought out the dude from think no think to play on bright lights during the encore...didn't know that dude could shred like that.
  19. i did notice last Friday that they moved those bleachers from the back wall up to the wall on the right of the stage.
  20. i see there is GA standing and GA seated, at emo's, that's strange. will definitely be there, have seen them multiple times and it's always great.
  21. i'll be there tonight as well. i've only seen him at sxsw and opening for other people, interested to see a full set.
  22. That was indeed awesome, they jammed the shit out of some pink floyd. Wish they would've played longer than an hour. Y'all check it out in Dallas tonight.
