  1. He just sounds nasty. Well he pretty much is.
  2. I ended up having to change out the pump, too. I have a spare contact switch, and am looking for a more robust pump for my next replacement. Pumps from Tractor Supply and other local stores have plastic impellers, which wear out pretty quickly in my well. I'm looking for a good pump with steel or brass impellers to run down the well when I have to replace this one. Hopefully that one will last longer than a few years. I'm getting too damn old to pull that pump up by myself comfortably.
  3. This time has been a journey. The points are good and I was getting power all the way through, so I had to pull the pump out of the well to check it. 90 feet of pipe later, I find that a wire has rubbed against the side of the pump and parted. I spliced the wire and bump tesed it and it still wouldn't run. I found that the capacitor in the control box burst, probably due to the parted wire, so I need a new box (the burst capacitor made a real mess). I am now searching for a new control box, but I need to help my dad with some stuff today, so it will probably be late tonight before I get the well back into service. I love living the easy, relaxed country life.
  4. Damn right!
  5. Indeed. And when I got to my first appointment, I found out that it was diarrhea. At least I have been places this morning where I could use someone else's water for that. Now I'm back home, and it's time to dig into the emergency stores. At least we have that.
  6. What an asshole thing to do.
  7. When you are on a private well, you will always find out that your pump went out while you are taking your morning shower and the pressure drops to nothing. On a related note, your well will only go out when you have other important things scheduled for that day that you cannot defer, delaying the start of the necessary work on the well. Shit.
  8. All of these involuntary sacrifices to the gun god so that some people can continue to have their fantasies of murdering public officials that they don't like or anyone whom they consider "thugs". Fucking disgusting.
  9. That's what would happen if my oldest younger brother tried hang gliding. There could be only one tree for 100 miles, and he'd hit it. His scars have scars.
  10. As someone who goes by his middle name I support this message.
  11. When God red cards you, it's serious.
  12. Yes, it is.
  13. Who would hate Taco Tuesday? That's un-American!
  14. Hell of a thump on her melon. Not ripe yet. Damn I bet that hurt.
  15. My mom's favorite weapon of correction. Those things can sting like hell. One with a cracked handle once broke while she was paddling my younger brother. You'd have thought she gutted him from the hollering he let out.
  16. She's just pissed that she isn't profiting from the grift, too.
  17. I have several Trumpist Facebook friends who have been posting more violent fantasy posts lately. Like "We ain't played cowboys and leftists." and shit like that. I don't think that the chance of violence, organized or other, is very high, but it is not zero. To answer the inevitable question, I keep contact with these folks because they were once sane and I hope they could be again, and they tell me a lot about the Trumpist mindset. Gotta know the oposition.
  18. Some sort of targeted EMP, if that's possible, would put paid to the noise for a bit.
  19. I once heard that when it's springtime in Alaska, it's 40 below. Doesn't sound like that much of a relief, but I've never experienced it, so... Thanks for sharing your experiences with us, @mooseoutfront.
  20. There are two kinds of wastewater operators in this world: those who have been "baptized", and those who will be. He's got his baptism behind him. You'll really need to watch out for him if he realizes that it isn't the end of the world and he loses the ick response.
  21. Summer teeth. I have to use that.
  22. Since my retirement I have learned the deep truth of this.
  23. For comparison, in September we drove up to Springfield, spent nine days visiting, and drove back in about the same time that the package was in Houston. Black hole, indeed.
  24. I had a co-worker who is a Vietnam vet. He was shot twice and stabbed once while there. He had a shingles episode that he said hurt worse than all three wounds combined. That episode nearly blinded his left eye. The doctors were worried that the virus would travel up his optic nerve into his brain and cause damage there, but it did not, thank God. We, of course, told him that anyone who got wounded three times couldn't possibly have a brain, so he was in no danger there.
