  1. I'm an end-of-the-period Boomer, and I've always assumed the same. I have six more years before I find out whether that is a correct assumption.
  2. I tried making some candied bacon yesterday and am disappointed in the result. It's not crisp like the other candied bacon that I've had before. Still, even poor candied bacon is better than most things in life, so I'll take it and keep trying.
  3. Maybe he has no more "F"s to give.
  4. I half expected it to kick off May 8, during the One Tank Parade.
  5. The longer you wait, the higher the risk of having your plans get into Russian hands. The Germans delayed the attack at Kursk to get Panther tanks into service. The Russians got ahold of the German plans, down to the minute that the attack was to jump off, and used the delay to shape the battlefield and prepare very deep defensive positions and position reserves in the best places for the counter attack after the Germans were stopped. From what I've seen, the Russian defensive positions in Ukraine are modeled on their positions around Kursk. As has been mentioned, too much delay risks a loss of political will to support Ukraine in Western countries. Lack of action waiting for F-16s and other modern jets may result in those jets never coming. Finally, too much delay will undercut the morale in the Ukrainian Army. Once they get everything fine tuned and ready for the fight, it is impossible to hold that edge indefinitely. Too much delay also sends a signal of weakness to both the Ukrainian Army and the Russian Army. As the wise Tuco Ramirez said, "When it's time to shoot, shoot. Don't talk."
  6. That fat bitch just lives to fuck with people. She's got her routine polished and ready to whip out at the drop of a hat, even if she has to drop the hat.
  7. And the Dutch.
  8. Ukraine should be sending those drones after the Kerch bridge, the Russian Black Sea naval installations, oil refineries and storage depots near Ukraine, and strategic rail and road bridges within 100 miles of the battle area. Use them for deep strikes needed to shape the battle area. Psyops have value, but Ukraine needs to do real damage to the army that they are facing more than they need psyops. In my opinion.
  9. "You mail pinball machine parts to the Libyans, and keep the plutonium for the Delorean, Honey."
  10. If they were not intended to be fleeced, they would not have been made sheep.
  11. It's still exciting to think of Ukraine hammering Russian shipping in Berdyansk, though.
  12. That's an old article. It says that Berdyansk was only recently occupied, and Mariupol was still not in Russian hands. I wonder why they bumped it, because it is dated May 25, 2023, while the date in the link is March 24, 2022. Weird.
  13. Mississippi Goddam, indeed.
  14. Sending untrained troops into battle is a stupid, desperate move. I feel for those guys.
  15. A couple of years ago I was cleaning out a closet and ran across my shoe/boot bag from boot camp. Still had the same tin of Kiwi black polish that I was issued at MCRD San Diego in June, 1979. It has melted and resolidified to the point that it was useless, so I threw it out, but I can't believe that I hauled that around for 40+ years. It still smelled the same, though. Sometimes I'll smell sandy dust and it takes me right back to doing push-ups, sit-ups, and bends and motherfuckers in The Pit.
  16. Damn, that hits hard. RIP, Tina.
  17. Well you and your Grandpa look happy.
  18. Congratulations. I love how in both pictures you look like you're thinking, "Yeah, you other guys wish you were me. But you're not!" Happy Anniversary!
  19. I was watching those balloons float around waiting for some moron to open up with an AK in the heart of Moscow. Disappointed that no one did.
  20. Watching with their thumbs up their butts, apparently.
  21. The actions of Santa Anna and his officers at San Jacinto confuse me so much. Who thinks, "We had a cavalry skirmish with the enemy yesterday, but found out that their main camp lies across the main route onto, and off of, the peninsula. The enemy burned the bridge that was the only other route off of the peninsula last night, thereby bottling my army up at the end of the peninsula. There is a rise between my army and the enemy, so they can approach to within a few hundred yards undetected, if I don't put sentries on that rise. Hmm. Let's not put out sentries, and everyone take a nap. The Texians won't attack an army during their nap."
  22. The Texians wouldn't dare attack during siesta.
  23. Yeah, Germany would never go through Belgium and The Netherlands to flank the Maginot Line, either.
