  1. Sounds like you know what you want, have a plan and access to a family shop - most of your question marks are already checked off. Biggest expense will be body work/paint, so look for the most rust free EC you can find. Check for accident damage (As ROFL noted, frame). Second biggest expense is engine rebuild, if needed. I'd have a pro shop make recommendations and do the work. Everything after that is relatively straightforward/bolt on stuff that you can replace/install yourself if you like, or outsource. All that "other stuff" adds up quickly in $, even if you do it yourself. Here's how my numbers played out: Purchase - $11k Body/Paint - $12k (that's after I welded in the new floorpans) Engine rebuild - $5k Everything else - $12k (parts/materials, I did all the installation.)

    Whatcha reading?

Starts slow with backgrounds of all the players, but when things get hairy it takes off. I found out about it after seeing an interview with a USAF pilot who recalled getting a frantic signal from ground soldiers needing air cover during the Iraq invasion. He couldn't see shit because of dust but eventually was able to drop enough firepower in the rough vicinity to help these dudes escape. Pretty wild story.
  3. I'm developing a MF townhouse project in Phoenix and we just threw in the towel on lumber - just too volatile. Wood framing is now light gauge steel, exterior plywood now cement board, roofin/decks now Densdeck. We'll still have some wood, like shear panels, interior stairs, etc, but looks like we've cut about 90% of the wood. Our GC noted steel framers are little slow right now due to the pull back in office and retail construction, so off we go, hoping we can get within pissing distance of our original budget.
  4. Welp, this shitty news has at least has given me the impetus to have a sit down with my 15 year old. Need to make sure he and his friends stay the fuck away from any street pills. I was talking to my wife and I'm like, do we tell him to come to us if he wants to try Xanax? I mean, shit, I don't know, that seems strange, but maybe it will keep him alive.
  5. Rhein Main/Frankfurt HS representing. Tried to give blood last year and got the boot for Mad Cow exposure in the 80s. So odd.
  6. Like Gabriel I added a push fan on the front of the radiator. That combined with the pull of the mechanical fan really helps. Also the shroud. Take some measurements and see how much clearance you have. I didn't have much so I went with an ultra thin (1.75 inches) compared to the normal 3 inch wide ones. I think all of them require you to buy a thermostat/power connection. I found the thermostats to be completely unreliable or a PIA to install, so I ditched it and hooked the fan up directly to the ignition terminal on my starter solenoid. So when the car is on the fan is on all the time. I hear the downside to this is it wears the fan out prematurely, but I don't give a shit, I'll just replace it. "I" terminal is in the middle on right side (red wire with gray tape).
  7. Watched Looper recently for the first time. Thought it was pretty damn good. Not sure why I missed it when it was in the theaters.
  8. My engine's been really sluggish lately, hesitating/stumbling in first gear. Research says it's fuel intake, air intake, or a combination of both. I was going to just turn in the carb to my guy but decided to take a shot at adjusting the carb myself. First tweak was the accelator pump. Two positions available, so I moved it over to the more aggressive one. Next was throttle position. My carb has four positions top to bottom, again moved it to most aggressive position (all the way up). A buddy suggested I check the float - sometimes they sit too low in the bowl and slow fuel from getting to the jets. Sure enough it was, so I bent it up so the float is parallel with the top lip of the carb, reportedly the correct position. That took care of fuel intake, so now to air. Nothing blocking anything inside, all clean. Let's check the air filter, shall we? For fuck's sake, after a 2 year restoration, loads done to the car, I never changed the 20 plus year old air filter. Well, now I have. And voila, all engine hesitation gone. I'm going to break it in a little more then try to lay some rubber.
  9. Thanks to whomever recommended Endeavor up thread. Great show. The actor playing Morse is outstanding. I like how his character doesn't take any shit from anyone professionally, but seems pretty vulnerable in his private life. Character has a lot of layers I wasn't expecting. Example end of Season 4 Starting off I expected him to be some whiz bang super sleuth that figures out complex cases that no one else can touch. But that's not really so; he eventually puts the puzzle together but it's with help from others in the department. Every episode is creatively different but does follow the same formula, so it's not a binge show, but one you watch once/twice a week. Highly recommend, along with Line of Duty above.
  10. I enjoyed it. The Spanish Civil War stuff was interesting, didn't know most of that stuff. Gotta admit, cruising around the Keys all day with a boat filled with buddies and booze, fishing and searching for Nahzi U Boats, looked pretty appealing.
  11. Same. Everything came back with an impeccable paint job, looked brand new.
  12. That's an awesome memory. My grandfather used to take me cruising in the Hill Country in his big ass Buick. (I was just a prop so he could get out of the house to have a few pops without Mema hounding him.) Beer of choice was Pearl, with a small brick of chewing tobacco he'd gnaw on. We were on a dirt road one time and he said, "Boy, get out there and move that rock, don't want to puncture my tire." My young dumbass self was happy as hell to jump out into 105 degree heat and do it. As I got older and looked back on that drive I always chuckled. He was either too drunk or too lazy to just move the damn wheel and drive around it. Probably both.
  13. As posted above, go with the lowest fee state. We also use Utah. https://my529.org Mormons are indeed sneaky and suspicious, so you may want to consult a financial consultant.
  14. I was thoroughly entertained, as were my teenage kids. The movie was dumb as shit, the acting horrible. But I went in expecting all that, just wanted Monster v Monster battles as I recalled as a kid. It did the job, but took it to another level with CGI and better fights. Just a personal anecdote, but I think the demise of theaters is premature. There was a palpable excitement with my kids, and in the crowd in general. May not ever reach pre COVID levels, but from my one off there's still a demand for the physical theater experience.
  15. ^^^ Same. I waited for a J&J opening, and it finally opened up yesterday. 24 hours later no effects, nada. I wonder if reactions to the vaccines have anything to do with having/not having antibodies. Meaning those with no reaction got Covid asymptomatically in the past and have them, where those who were never exposed to Covid don't have them. My wife was sick in March last year and she didn't test positive until a week or so after symptoms hit hard. So I was fully exposed for an extended period but had nothing. Who knows, just spitballin.
  16. I liked it. Kiind of like a what if Terrence Malick shot a movie about a middle aged extra from Hoosiers.
  17. Duran Duran is a good call. I did one of those pre-college Eurorail trips in the late 80s.. We were drinking with some Brits in a hostel when The Reflex came on. My buddy said "Turn it up, love that song." One of the Brits looked him with utter contempt, "Are you a pre-pubescent girl?" I've kept my appreciation of some of their songs under wraps since. But I'm now strong enough to admit this one:
  18. Yeah I may have missed the 'awkwardness' part and just went straight for a standard Larry David interaction.
  19. Haha this just happened to me a couple of days ago. We have a bunch of cars (username yadda yadda) so garage and driveway is full. To park in front of our house I have to navigate a cul de sac to turn around and hit the spot. I'm coming back from buying a few groceries, there's a plumber's truck in the cul de sac to my right as I start my left turn, so the radius is cut a bit. On the last part of the left turn I notice some dude is in the street doing fucking jumping jacks. I figure I can make it without reversing and do it no problem. I exist with groceries in tow. Jumping Jack: Hey man, you were really close to me. That was unnecessary. Me: WTF are you talking about? JJ: I was exercising here and you just drove past me. Me: Yes I did, what's your point? JJ: You drive dangerously. I've seen you do this to other people in the past. Me: I've never seen you in my fucking life, and I've lived here for 20 years. JJ: You should know better if you've lived here that long. There was no need to cut it that close. Me: A) see that fucking truck, it cuts an already close radius even closer. B) I wasn't even close to you and C) you're exercising in the goddamn street. JJ: Pedestrians have the right of way in the street. Me: (almost yelling). When they're in a fucking crosswalk. My ice cream is melting, continue on with your fucking jumping jacks. Had to check a few times to make sure he didn't vandalize my car.
  20. That was pretty cool. Seems like a solid dude. The BB gun story was funny, especially the full on barricading. I get it, the college me was into bottle rocket and roman candle fights, but actual metal projectiles? Pass.
  21. Wild, had no idea a thread existed on here about WSL. I was introduced to it in Maui at our timeshare a few years ago; there's a surfing channel that shows competition 24/7. I found it incredibly interesting and relaxing. I don't smoke pot (makes me paranoid) but I imagine that's what it's like for people that do. Something about the announcers delivery also lends to the relaxed vibe, even though the athleticsm of the surfers is off the charts. Anyway you can stream it on your computer. Think the next up is in April.
  22. I streamed Minari on APrime this weekend. Thought the acting was outstanding, especially granny. Just as I was getting into the story, boom, it ended. WTF. It needed at least another 20/30 minutes to flesh out the storyline. Maybe it's an indie film thing, take a snapshot of something and not be too on the nose, but I was disappointed.
  23. I popped a tendon in my right hand. Jerking lefty was no problem, just took practice to get the right motion. Felt like I was cheating on my right, but I got over it.
