Where were you with the badgers? That's damn cool. South Park. There was an area not far from Hartsel that had them called Badger Basin on the northeast side of Spinney. The one causing the commotion was at Spinney as well. I was sitting in the General Store while it was having a field day. My high school mascot was a badger and I had first seen one in the 5th grade. Someone brought one to the atrium and it proceeded to destroy it. That was all it took for me to understand those were animals to just leave alone if I ever saw them again.
-
Saw plenty of them where I was at. Watched one from afar one day while taking a break from fishing that was destroying everything nearby. Guessing a mother maybe defending her turf. Mountain lions I just took as part of the deal of living there. They would see me well before I saw them. Moose if I ever heard one rumbling somewhere in the forest I was out. No way no how was I getting caught trying to get clear of them. I always just tried to respect the wilderness and let it be. The bear thing though with Helo is funny. They are not looking to eat people. Just steer clear of mom when she has cubs and you’re good. I have no idea if he commutes back and forth. For all I know he moved up there. His house was pretty cool in Castle Rock though so who knows. Years ago I used to broadcast high school football games with his dad when I was in college. Might should call his dad and see how they’re all doing since his dad is nearing 80 now.

If memory serves correct when I was last there years ago he was in a partnership running several Burger King locations. I am guessing he got out of that because I also saw he had some fast food place he opened in Utah I believe. I only saw the Boulder one because I saw him in a photo with Shedeur Sanders doing a merchandise signing/NIL thing I believe. I think his oldest is now a cheerleader at CU as well so maybe makes sense to have his restaurant there. He’s a smart guy insofar as running that kind of restaurant so I would gander he’s probably doing really well.

This right here. Make sure you are on the right platform number or you’ll wind up going out east towards Amityville or Massapequa or some other random Long Island hamlet.
-
The mentally broken are usually going to be found in the last car. That’s almost a guarantee from the extensive amount of time I spent on the subway.
-
If someone would just bring it up publicly to Eric Adams I feel certain we could get him to say in a press conference that he’s a train expert and that he’ll get a direct line built in a year. Public transportation in the US, especially subways and trains, are really lacking to be kind. When I was leaving last month NYC was finally finishing the Q line to 125th. That’s been on the table for decades I believe. Whatever person got my apartment though will now be able to walk one block up to 106th and get on the train quickly. It’ll be working for someone I guess.

Bullneck beat me to it. The E was an easy trip for 2.90 and the LIRR is quicker. Cost is negligible there as well. Better than the cab ride farce. I only did Uber when my mom came to visit since she needed to travel faster to where I lived.
-
I always told people who were flying out of JFK to just take the subway and skip paying 80 plus dollars for a cab ride. You just had to plan ahead and you can save the money to waste on tourist trinkets and cheap clothing instead.
-
This is probably the quickest and easiest to ride part of the system. I liked the LIRR when I had to ride it. Well the drunk train back to Long Island at 2am on Friday and Saturday was not so much fun, but I did not have to take it for a lengthy period of time. The Metro North was the best though. Easily the best of the public transportation I took. I spent one year living in Stamford and every morning I could take an express at 6am or so and be at Grand Central within 45 minutes. That was about a 35 mile or so train ride I believe. Pretty quiet going to and fro. The LIRR getting the connection now to Grand Central was pretty cool as well.
-
I do not miss the subway rides in NYC. Some of the absolute rudest people I have ever encountered in my life ride those trains. No respect at all for their fellow riders. The homeless smoking in a car? Why not. Homeless guys pissing on the platforms no matter the time of day was normal. Police more interested in being on their phones than stopping fare evasion or evicting any of the other stuff mentioned was absolutely a daily occurence. Random clowns smoking weed whenever they feel like it? Sure. The buses were better only in the respect that you had no impromptu concerts or speakers blasting on them.

Yep you would be dead within three days of living in the mountains. If you think black bears are scary, well, yeah that would not be in my top three things to avoid in the mountains. Black bears have no interest in attacking you unless you get between a mom and her cubs. Moose and badgers were far more of a concern to me when I’d set off hiking through a forest or wilderness area.

Denver, but I lived up in the Rockies before and enjoyed the solitude of life in a very small town. I saw Denver maybe once between October-May. It was not worth trying to drive down there if there was any kind of snowstorm. As you want a city though I would say Denver. A childhood friend lives in Castle Rock last I checked and he owns a business in Boulder. He loves being near the mountains, but not so much on being in them.

The country that would quietly be the happiest in this scenario would be Japan. Anyone that thinks they still wouldn’t want to stick it to China eight decades later does not need to do a whole bunch of reading (although I’d encourage reading up on their animosity towards communism) to know they’d enjoy joining in on the carnage.

I was cool with the result either way, but yes if you’re going to run your mouth be sure to back it up when it matters most. Don’t go full Matt Hasselbeck against the Packers and declare victory at the OT coin toss. I would also add that anyone crying conspiracy about a loss is full of it. The Horns were better at almost every position. They should have won and they made plays in OT when they needed to. I am new to the ASU fanbase, but I am not new to listening to dumb conspiracy theories. You just take the loss and move forward and look towards next year. Dillingham gets that, but some of these fans who are new to winning do not.

Miss my dogs right now, but they have to get all their shots updated before joining me on Oahu. I am glad they are getting to spend time with my young niece and nephew. Each one took one of them and gives it all of their attention. Pretty cool getting on FaceTime with my mom and watching them play with them. Both of them have a whole ton of patience and love to share with my girls. My nephew is getting ready to turn three and he tells me a few days ago “Thank you for bringing the dogs home.”

I like to think I can relate to human beings in a peaceful way. I listen to folks every single day and sometimes I feel too much of people’s pain and suffering. My main mission in life is helping others on the road we all travel on and just listening to folks. I feel empathy for the people who are really going through it in life. I have studied enough history to know how being the opposite turns out for those who want to willingly do harm to others. With that said, the cretins at fox are scum. They are absolutely, positively the worst of the worst in our country. Day after day after pitiful day these traitorous clowns weaponize the masses with blatant lies and disinformation. To say I wish the worst upon them and anyone in their orbit is an understatement. How many of those 77 millions idiots that voted for the most hateful person to ever be our president watch the nightly propaganda shows? How many of them got brainwashed by that channel? Dwight Eisenhower is rolling over in his grave right now. I do not feel bad for the people that voted for that moron. They will get what’s coming to them. However, the greater sin is these scumbags leading people astray with lie after verifiable lie. They took many of our parents, brothers, sisters, friends and associates and completely brainwashed them with nothing but lies and telling them this orange buffoon is the only one that can save the country. I will forever be upset for what they did and there are not enough bad things that can happen to them to make up for the damage they have caused to the country and the world as a whole.
-
Never forget that 77 million terrible human beings voted for this.
-
I would wager he’d say it’s a country and have no idea where it is at on the map.

On what subject should you be considered Surly's resident expert?

Best hockey game ever made! -
I’m so glad y’all are able to add some young players to such a talent deficient team. Really scrapped and clawed your way out of mediocrity to get that World Series. One can only imagine what the Dodgers might look like if they ever get some elite players on the roster.
-
A good movie will do that to you. This was an incredibly good one that got me as well. For all the talk about cinema being dead and what not, I still keep seeing new movies that are really well done like this that keep advancing cinema forward and in a positive direction.

Arizona State football. I poured literally minutes upon minutes of energy into the 2024 season, my first as a supporter. My thoroughly detailed research of the program shows they have mostly sucked until this past year. I look forward to 2025 where I may decide to really expand my horizons and perhaps devote an hour of my life to this juggernaut of a football program. -

The erosion of our public education system over several decades combined with abject laziness by millions of our fellow citizens in even marginally attempting to educate themselves on the world around them will give a partial reason for where we are at. Throw in people’s addiction to 10 second sound bites that double as news/blatant misinformation and you will get the rest of the way to this current reality. It’s easier to believe a lie that confirms your bias versus actually taking time to read things based on fact, reason and logic. -
Elon Musk: Nazi traitor piece of shit [Confirmed]
UpperWestside replied to MaybeACoordinator's topic in Daily Texan
I see this at least 4-5 times a week because it is near a spot I enjoy reading at. If you told me this thing would set your house on fire, murder your family and then have Elmo say “All the telemetry came back okay” I wouldn’t bat an eyelash. Stuff like this makes millions of people in America think he has a high level of intelligence when in actuality his IQ is on par with the temperature of a frozen pond.
