  1. So he definitely just learned about the Battle of Stalingrad. Im surprised he didn't say "Not many people know this, but..."
  2. https://www.npr.org/2025/01/20/nx-s1-5230486/texas-ten-commandments-schools-legislature
  3. I thought January 6th was pretty bad. Now, it's going to be groundhog day of January 6th for at least 4 years.
  4. Why the fuck is this shitstain talking to us during halftime of the football game?
  5. We should definitely be throwing all of our time, money and energy into making life suitable on Mars for a lucky few rather than just not fucking the planet we evolved to live on. We need more billionaires building rockets!!!
  6. I watched 4 episodes on my upstairs TV after taking valium for a vasectomy. Was too tired to figure out how to turn off the energy saving settings, so I couldn't see shit. Seems like I didn't miss much. I enjoyed the end of the season though.
  7. Went to my parents since the wife was working and daycare is closed for the toddler. The Inauguration is on tv. "I will not be watching that." "It's just ABC." "Turn this garbage off or we're not staying." I'm not really sure what they were thinking. I would happily have a political throw down if it was just us, but somehow they expect that to be on without any friction.
  8. She's already pissed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Hawaiian_animals_extinct_in_the_Holocene
  9. Im confused why people are more upset about Biden doing this than they are that he feels the need to do so.
  10. I belive this has been done in Florida for several years, specifically to reduce Dengue. Although I would agree that Florida is not a place you want to take advice from.
  11. I'm not sure of the senator's opinion, but Hawaii is now releasing genetically altered male mosquitoes (the non-biters) that produce sterile offspring to combat the effects of Avian Malaria. The disease has already wiped out many native honeycreeper species, and the situation is exacerbated by climate change (apologies if this term melts any resident snowflakes. I know this thread definitely isn't CR), as there is no longer refuge at higher elevations. While it is too late for the 'akikiki, perhaps the 'akeke'e still has hope of surviving.
  12. Great thread by OP, excellent choice to post in DT, extraordinary defense of both. I have learned so much about that darn Hawaiian senator. I eagerly await future posts! Hook'em!!!
  13. Yea, I remember seeing the response from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting and thinking, "Damn, these kids aren't afraid to get involved and speak their mind. Maybe the youth will save us after all." Nope, the morons just needed a little more time to marinate in the social media sewage before they came out in full force, proudly voicing their dumbassery. Moving backwards...
  14. Sorry, lashing out after doing my best to ignore things for the last 3 months. Fuck
  15. I don't get it. I'm certainly no smarter than the average poster on this board... well, exclude maybe football and large swaths of DT, but organized religion has felt like the biggest crock of shit to me since I was a teenager given the choice to not attend church if I wished. This Trumpy christian garbage is dumber than the fundamentalist apostolic shit I suffered through when visiting relatives in rural Minnesota every summer. I cannot even begin to understand its appeal or ability to sway people. But I also put my faith in @Js1 that Kamala had this election locked down, so what do I know.
  16. My 2 1/2 year-old is equal parts hilarious and pain in the ass, but his language is to the point where he may start contributing to this thread... hopefully not at doomlet's level. As the bath was draining and he was sitting in the tub, "My penis broken". Then soon thereafter, following a successful pee in the potty, "Two points!". We don't even watch basketball.
  17. That's Operating Thetan Cruise to you, sir! Although I think I'd prefer scientologists in charge over today's "Christians" at this point.
  18. As others have noted, that's painting with a pretty broad brush. There was no shortage of atrocities to go around in the 1800's American frontier. And in a strictly practical sense, which tribes held out the longest before succumbing to reservation life? I don't know for sure, but I'd bet the Apache, Comance and Sioux were some of the last "free" groups, and also some of the most violent.
  19. Largely about early American ornithology in general, as opposed to just the birds that slipped by unnoticed. What they lacked in optics in the early 1800s, they made up for in guns and staggering amounts of wildlife that I truly can't even imagine today.
  20. 2 episodes in. I'm such a sucker for frontier shit. Anyone catch Victor from Breaking Bad as the Shoshone working for the Army?
  21. Just know that whatever Helobious says, the rest of us generally think the exact opposite.
  22. From Round Rock, watching a baby and sick toddler, fortunately with grandma's help.. TEXAS!
  23. A lot of people have done it and it's always dumb.
  24. The University of Iowa at State College?
  25. I think a football pod featuring the cries of a baby, toddler, wife, cat and dog are just what the people are looking for. If some people have a face for radio, I have a voice for newspaper. I will be Scrooge McDucking in that sweet ad-read money in no time
