I guess you didn't see the interview with Alter.  He's renegged on the claim they're moving the Sunrise HNC, rather they're opening this one IN ADDITION TO.  And I never thought I'd see the day where Propane Zo actually votes in line with the tax payers and not some ulterior motive.  Hell, I'd be surprised if half the dais was paying attention to anything other than tiktok or stuffing their face (in Laine's case) when the vote went down.

It’s just dumb to have another homeless resource center in such a close proximity to another school (Travis High School). These resource centers are trying to help the homeless (unhoused, whatever the correct term is) but the problem is that they do not provide overnight housing, so the homeless all linger in the area because it’s in proximity to the resource center.

The Blunn Creek Nature preserve next to Travis HS is going to turn into the shithole the Greenbelt has become if it hasn’t gotten like that already.

So now they’re moving the Sunrise Homeless Navigation Center from Ben White and Menchaca to a building off 35 & Oltorf right next to the La Quinta off the access road.
There's already a homeless hotel over there, plus another between 71 and Stassney on 35.

I've delivered packages to some of them. People just sitting around outside smoking.

What district do you live in? I live by Little Longhorn Saloon, a great place for duck shit bingo located near Soco just off Lady Bird Lake. I’m glad the yogurt shop murders were solved and that my homies, the Creek People, were not implicated. Maybe one day we can enjoy authentic brisket bbq at Bill Millers.

Austin should downsize.

new borders are 35, Mopac, 183 and 71.

Under this plan, my property taxes should go down to about 20% of their current rate, and my kids might be able to attend a decent public school.   Okay, I'm in.

Austin letting go of the tax base west of Mopac is a pipe dream, of course, but I've often wondered if there is a way for homes west of 360 to figure out a way to get rezoned to a different school district, as AISD never saw fit to build any schools out here where a bunch of kids live.  I know that will never happen, but a guy can dream.

My larger concern isn't with the necessary closures, even if it's evident that Segura and his team are completely in over their heads and incapable of handling it professionally. It's with the redrawing of boundaries and the closing of programs. That's where the absolute fuckery will take place.  Dumping this late on a Friday (notwithstanding Segura's on-brand lies disguised as reasoning) tells you all you need to know about how they expect it to be received.

Yep... and now

Those of us in SW Austin would like a word on our inclusion.

Besides, if you make those the borders, you can F off and not come to Sagebrush, Sam's Town Point, Armadillo Den, St. Elmo, Leroy & Lewis, The Far Out, Little Darlin' etc

Eanes has a pretty liberal transfer policy and once you're in you can stay through 12th grade.

My kids have several friends that live in aisd zoned areas that go to westlake.

We live in Del Valle ISD but my kids go to AISD (transfer) because my wife teaches for AISD. Plus I don't have to get up early because they ride with her to and from school. They'll probably stay with AISD thru 12th at schools near my wife's school unless we move to RR or something.

I suspect they're about to be flooded with even more transfer requests, along with every other neighboring district.  I suspect we'll see some changes to transfer policies soon.

My favorite Austin zoning "feature" is kids in Greenshores going to HS at McCallum.  Or at least they used to.

That was always weird.  Anderson isn't really that much closer ~9 miles v. ~11.  At a minimum, there should be an elementary school serving Jester and the communities across 2222 along City Park Road, like Greenshores.  There are likely enough kids there to have a couple of elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school.   When such a thing was suggested many years ago, it was shouted down by the usual suspects.  God forbid we build schools where the kids are actually located, or close schools where they're not.  The district took its de facto stance and said, fuck it.  And now here we are.

The new plan has those kids going to Anderson next year, assuming it is approved.

particularly given that we (eanes) have already beaten aisd to the punch on consolidation. we closed one of long-standing six elementary schools (valley view) between last year and this year.

Yeah, it's way down the hill from 2222.  I just checked Ski Shores, and even it is 9 miles from Vandegrift (which is obviously a different district). Greenshores, Westminster Glen and Jester alone should feed a pretty large HS.

It's a weird pocket where a bunch of relatively affluent people receive almost no standard educational offerings for their kids (in terms of location), and never could seem to muster the influence to force any through.  Over the years, they have always run into the nonsense of "you can't spend money on the west side and not the east side" that gets spewed (despite the reality of a massive gap in spending per student that weighs heavily to the east side), and nothing ever got done.  Fast forward to massive overcrowding on the west side and the current budget crisis due to weak district management over the years.  No one was ever willing to make the tough choices, and now it's a disaster.

yep. That was my kids elementary and now my hood is split and goes to a couple of different schools.

Valley View was great. The principal was amazing. It was a night and day difference how much better run it was compared to Casis.

The VV principal was very popular so they moved her to Cedar Creek since the CC principal from the year before desperately needed a new role.

This shit pisses me off: https://www.kxan.com/news/local/travis-county/alleged-chicken-wing-deal-leads-to-arrest-of-travis-county-corrections-officer/amp/

“A Travis County Sheriff’s Office, or TCSO, correctional officer was charged with allegedly bringing contraband into the county’s correctional facility. The alleged contraband: chicken wings.

On Aug. 21, a corrections officer with TCSO’s Security Threat Intelligence Unit “became aware” that Corrections Officer Amos Nyanway allegedly “provided chicken wings to an inmate” in exchange for money, according to a TCSO press release issued Tuesday afternoon.”

Fucking hell, dude’s a hero. Sometimes, you need some wings, doesn’t matter if you’re in jail.
