So, was this Hocutt getting ahead of his skis? Wishcasting? Were there sincere talks that were ended by Texas having to pay so much to get out of the B12?

Because a year later, it’s not

looking as likely. CDC is ghosting Hocutt and Hocutt is complaining ing to Gov. Abbott to do something.

And a year later, Hocutt is back talking to the press, calling out CDC for being “scared to play them”

There are a lot of reasons to not schedule Texas Tech, but a bit g one has got to be their willingness to try to go over the AD’s head, to the media, to the Governor. I can imagine it would feel really good to all the Red Raiders if a Tech flex could bend UT to their will, but that plan shows a combination of naïveté, aggression and ignorance

Texas doesn't owe Tech the time of day. Texas helped Tech "abandon" its conference mates in the Border so it could play big boy ball in the SWC. Tech rode our coattails into the Big 12. Tech was all too happy to be a part of the hate-on-Texas program that saw our league commissioner, no less, take sides against us. Maybe if Tech wants to play us in Austin occasionally as one-offs, we could meet. Two problems with that: (1) it would mean a loss of the opportunity for a less hateful school to boost its profile, and (2) Tech, so far as I know, thinks instead they should be in the bucket with Michigan et al-- home and home. No.

TLDR: sorry the single biggest day for your economy every biennium got canceled. Well, bye.

For Lubbock's shortcomings, and it has plenty, being a shitty college town is not one of them.  Going to games as a visitor=/= being a student there.

Yeah, there is so ssooooooo much hot willing pussy there at Tech. It’s really astounding,

There is NO scenario where Tech is ranked #1 at 4-0.

They would have wins over:

Ark-Pine Bluff (3-9 in 2024)

Kent St (0-12 in 2024)

Oregon St (5-7 in 2024)

Utah (5-7 in 2024)

Texas gave the proposal the old “yeah, sure, we’d be open to that” while trying to get the early exit deal done.

Shortly thereafter, it became clear that that wouldn’t help any part of the early exit deal. As well, Tech was politicking with the state legislature to work their way into the PUF. They trying to align a bunch of Baylor and UH people to get themselves in with the “let’s stick it to the bastards” notion.

Once all that was known and shut down, it’s since become Texas’ desire to give Tech the UH treatment in almost all sports.

Is this a serious post? You think removing pettiness makes CFB more fun? Dark, bitter pettiness towards our enemies is a big part of the enjoyment we derive from college sports.

Looking back on some of those tweets does make me laugh, though. I'm glad Cody decided to stop running his mouth and actually take real steps to help improve the program. He was acting like that for a while, and the Tech AD didn't want anything to do with him. He even tried to push for Hocutt to be fired because he wouldn't hire Dana Holgersen at Cody's recommendation and Hocutt basically cut him off from the department for a time.

Lots of other stuff behind the scenes. He wanted to basically sacrifice the basketball program's rise and basically every other sport to go all in on football. Fast forward to today and he's a regent and the face of all our NIL efforts across the board. Really a stark contrast between what he says in public now about "saving college sports" and how he was behaving just a few years ago.

I'm not sure who got in his ear to tell him to clean up his act but sheesh brother...

I don't have any enemies. You're all my best friends.

Well, except for Rex. Fuck that guy.

UT doesn't have to schedule Tech and I can't imagine why CDC would agree to a 20-year agreement.

Based on history, UT has no reason to be scared of Tech, Mr. Campbell. You should know better. What years did he play OL for Tech, anyway? Not that it matters.

Is this true?

Could they be even stupider than I thought? 🤔

It’s true, aggy is so stupid they didn’t include an offset in Jimbo’s contract.

According to the terms of the contract, Texas A&M will owe Fisher $19.2 million within 60 days and then pay him $7.2 annually through 2031. There is no offset or mitigation on those payments, and the annual payments start 120 days after termination.
