And what if the play is a shotgun snap with a slight roll to the right but the defense blitzes a backer and a safety and the back fails to pick it up and the primary receiver does not break his route off and the QB spins the other way and runs into a blitzer ?

Self sacked?
Sure looks like one to some.

A self sack is when Quinn doesn’t step up into a clean pocket after his OL is doing everything they can to block. Don’t you remember Georgia 1 where Quinn got tripped up near the end zone? The pocket was clean. Just step the fuck up Quinn, the space was there. Kelvin Banks whiffed on blocks during that game but that play near the end zone where Quinn fell was not one of the missed blocks by Banks.

something like 80-85% of QE’s yards that day were YAC yards. his average depth of tragedy that day was very very low for someone with 300 statistical passing yards.

Oh yeah….the QB should not get credit for the YAC argument to make his stupid point which is absurd.

You are so fucking stupid.

So Quinn's 333 and 5 TDs vs a superior opponent is somehow worse than Arch's 325 and 2 TDs vs a team that won 0 conference games and two games overall. Got it!

His point is some self-sacks aren't really avoidable.

He doesn’t know what a self sack is and you’re making him more confident in his wrongness because you’re trying to be in the Quinn side of this discussion.

You know the value of self sacks as a stat and you know what is and isn’t one. Very few self sacks are unavoidable, that’s the entire point of the stat.

Everybody was out for Florida for those other teams too is the point. They only got trounced in one game all season. Also, Moore dropped a TD pass against Florida as well. Plus we sat Quinn in the last qtr.

Florida played their third string secondary against everyone.  But ok I’ll give you that one if you’ll give me Kentucky, Aggy,Georgia 1,

Then by definition they aren't self-sacks

Well what if the guard tripped and then the running back grabbed the ball and fumbled it and then the quarterback picked it up and then turned into a tackler but fumbled again before picking it up and getting tackled again? Who’s fault is that sack smart guy?

DE-DT twist. Cam loses the edge in confusion so Quinn steps up in the pocket, but DJ let the DE cross his face and Quinn steps right into his arms. Self sack yes or no?

Every year we have multiple folks ripping players.  That’s been done here throughout the thread too.

There is a disconnect somewhere.  Since Colt, we’ve had 3 QBs, Ewers will be the 4th, spend time in the NFL.  I believe Ash medically retired.  Swoopes made it in the NFL at a different position.  Maybe we didn’t win as much as we’d like.  But maybe our shitty QBs weren’t exactly the problem.

People suck.  More so on social media platforms.  Ever buddy has an opinion.  And we’re all right in our own minds.  I’m just trying to determine if we shit talk some but not others.  Is that ok?

I know what a self sack is assclown but I am not so sure there is any way to measure it.

What looks like a self sack could be because of a myriad of reasons that don’t involve the decision of the QB.

Blaming all of the those types of plays solely on the QB is stupid.

what about if a QB runs around for 10 seconds and instead of throwing it out of bounds is sacked and loses 10 yards?  What would you call that?

Because that was the ding on both Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders.

That would be considered a self sack. Shedeur is super bad at this and a lot of the dings that Quinn has are the same that Shedeur has except Shedeur has more escapability and pocket awareness.

Not the classic moon-shot to Worthy that everyone remembers, but the somewhat less appreciated "nail in the coffin" throw to AD in the 4th.

Let’s try to take Ewers out of the equation here.  It could and does happen to all QBs.

1). If that WR runs a 4.5 as opposed to a 4.3, does he catch it?

2)  If you’re an NFL GM, and you only have one play to watch, how would you rate this Qb play with respect to timing, accuracy, anticipation?

Just you, derka, and derka’s other screen name that continues being dicks.

Since you claim I don’t know what a self sack is, and several of us have pointed out, it is a subjective stat that cannot be easily defined, why don’t you post some videos of some plays that you consider self sacks and plays that are not.

Bonus points if the audio has the words “self sack” in it.

You QAnons always add caveats to scenarios where Quinn looks terrible but blame someone else and it’s never Quinn’s fault.

Here’s a screen grab from the Film Guy’s analysis on the game. Quinn’s leg can be seen by the 0 score. It looks like a clean pocket if he just steps up. But then you throw in all this other DE-DT twist shit to distract from the fact that Quinn fucked up. Just own it. Thats where the discontent is on this thread. That Quinn is never at fault when we can see it clearly on the game film. It’s not about his political views either. I don’t give a fuck if he supports Trump or Kamala or Jill Stein. When you make excuses and redirect blame for a person without any accountability the way some of you Quinn supporters do, that’s the fucking cult behavior Derka keeps blabbing about because Texas Football is so above blatant homerism like that.

You seem cool lol.

Yes that was a sack and he should have stepped up sooner.

No one was open and it possibly could have been thrown away and it also could have been a pick six if he forces it which he did not do.

What do I win ?

You don’t win because that is a self sack. You pointing out he should have stepped up sooner is why that is graded a self sack.

Steam,

I believe those that track self sacks do attempt to define it.  It is not perfect, but it is a data point.  They’re doing their best to apply it consistently.  It’s not even called a self sack I don’t believe.

If the Olinemen is beat or missed an assignment, it’s not put on the QB.  There is an analysis of every player on every play with a reasonable determination about what the offense and defense are attempting to do.

Shitty teams can have good players on the roster, sometimes great players. It's a team sport. You're completely missing the point. QE was the quarterback when Texas went from losing a lot of games to winning a lot of games, hence as QB he "led" the team over that transition. Do you see the logic?

@Thatguy

if nothing else you talk football, some don’t care to engage in that.

You didn’t ask me, but generally I’d say not on QB.  Flashing back to UW last year, there was a borderline QB fault on a Campbell sack.  Not sure if it was a twist.  Really more unfortunate timing.

If he was the sole reason for the improvement I’d see that but the entire roster improved beyond him.

No ones saying he's the sole reason, holy shit. The point is that it's reasonable for someone to say he "led" the team over that time because he was the quarterback. Can we agree?

I got you.  I agree with you.

My point still stands.  The thrashing of players goes a bit far.  I’m not even saying you even though I took a small comment out of context perhaps.  Maybe slightly intentionally.  That overall tone of negativity is present here on both sides.

I can agree with using led. The issue is a lot of people on various boards and platforms say “because of him”

In your example of a twist it is NOT Quinn’s fault that he got sacked. I have no problem giving Quinn props for when he makes a play and when others fail around him. I do have a problem with some people not recognizing when Quinn is at fault and start pointing the fingers at other teammates around him.

My example of the sack near the goal line is to counter Steam’s argument that
self sacks is a bullshit subjective statistic when my example shows clear as day that it’s a self sack. But then you start throwing in “well what if it’s a twist, is it Quinn’s fault?” Of course a twist is not Quinn’s fault, but you have successfully detracted the argument away from Quinn being at fault for creating a self sack into arguing about what constitutes a self sack in itself. Great way to take the heat off Quinn in this discussion.

I will just leave it at this…..

I don’t appreciate a so-called Texas “fan or fans” on a Texas message board dogging one of the best quarterbacks in school history.

A guy that decided to come here even after we finished 5-7 in the previous season.

A guy that gave his heart and soul, blood and guts, to this program and helped regain our national prominence, often playing injured because he fucking cared about his team.

A guy that helped us win the Big XII in our final season there and then have the best record in our first year in the SEC and play in the championship game.

A guy that helped us reach two consecutive NCAA playoff semifinals and the only team to do so.

You pricks just want to post fucking stats to validate your criticism, yet giving very little credit when it is due.

Yeah that bugs the shit out of me even though it is a message board and there is no accountability.

So if that is your deal go ahead and make asses of yourselves.

It is fine to have your opinions here but dogging Texas players at any time is a no go in my book.

Fuck you if you do and don’t call yourself a fan.

You are just an Internet sensation in your own mind.

Now get the fuck off of my lawn assholes.

The end.

As to the first point, why?  And some posters believe another poster has issues.

As to the second one, I have some insight but working from educated guesses as to this particular point.  There is subjectivity but working from what is likely a defined set of circumstances.  It’s a bit fandom view, but the teams use the info so there’s likely team input even if indirectly.

So on that play, obviously you’d need a specific visual, but generally speaking that’s on the Oline.  If it’s 5 seconds after the snap and the QB runs into his lap in the opposite B gap, then the Oline won’t likely get tagged for that.
