No shit. Who's going to crap on a fanbase for showing up to cheer their team on to its first ever bowl win. I think the fact that they drank the stadium dry and celebrated with the team on the field is awesome. That's the fun stuff in college football.

Yep, fuck it. My Son and his buddies were on the field. It was also his GF's birthday. Pretty fucking cool that your team goes to a bowl on your birthday. They had a blast and glad they did go on the field.

People need to let kids be kids and stop worrying about all the little shit.

You know these teams are pumped to take a bowl trip to Dallas.

We were definitely pumped about Dallas being the location.  Best possible option for TXST, hands down.  Huge alumni base in DFW, day after Xmas made it easy for travel from the rest of the state, Ford is bigger than Frisco (that was the other most likely option).  We never would have got that many fans to New Orleans, Hawaii, Mobile, Myrtle Beach, Birmingham, Boise, etc.

He's really fucking good.  Great hands.  Good route runner.   Coach on the field!  Not near the meathead that Billy Joe was.

I was excited to finally be able to watch a Texas St game and watch this offense.

Baylor was our offensive peak, sadly.  The playcalling hasn't been anywhere near as aggressive, balanced or opportunistic since.

i don't get the little pooch kick.  gives Rice the ball at the 40.  they weren't fooled.

They were trying to avoid kicking to the guy who avgs 23 yards per return.

I think 80% of the plays today have ended with either a penalty or an injury.

Fucking brutal. Reminiscent of Tech @ UT a couple of weeks back.  Saps the crowd energy and it was cold last night, so especially in the 2nd half those flags/injuries were a beating.

Hard to believe this is Texas States first winning season in 14 years

1st winning season in 9 years.  7-5 in 2014.

Kinne might be the best HC for the Cats since Wacker days. He might not be there long, unfortunately for them.

Hands down the best coach since Wacker, albeit a very low bar.

We are all very aware Kinne is in San Marcos short term.  That's how G5 positions work, but HC only get poached when they do well, so we'll take it while we've got it.

Happy for them. There is a lot of potential for growth at Texas State. They need to sharpen up their academic standards. They have a bigger enrollment 30k+ that the the privates (Baylor, TCU, SMU) and about 6k less than Texas Tech..

😆😆😆
Do you mean admissions standards?  How does that work when A&M is taking 5K more freshman off the top than they were 10 years ago, and the SEC schools are taking another 5K?  Those are kids with solid grades who went to TXST in 2015 and are now out of the talent pool for us.

We passed 30K students in 2009 and are currently just under 39K.  Adding Master's and Doctoral programs every year it seems.  We'll be R1 here in the next 5-ish years.  Not sure what more you want out of a school like ours - there will always be a hierarchy pyramid, and we'll always be right about where we are today in the grand scheme of Texas higher ed.

In 19__ (😁) an issue of Playboy came out with a top 10 party schools in the US  list. At the end of the list there was an asterisked addition that read (not paraphrasing here) “sorry Southwest Texas State University, this is an ameteur ranking only. Professionals are not included.” True story.

Not a true story at all.  Urban legend that Bobcats have been all too happy to perpetuate over the years.

This was discussed on page 1 but, yes, it appears they ran out of beer on the SWT side of Ford midway thru second half.

They ran out on the TXST side in the 1st quarter.  People started going to the end zone and Rice side for beers and drinking Truly.  They ran out of all alcohol in the stadium during the 3rd quarter.

My kid just graduated Texas State Business and got a well paying job at a tech company. His aggy engineering friends can’t even get an interview. Quality over quantity.

Advantage Bobcat!!

That was a typo on my end. Saw the the Texas State side was completely out of booze halfway thru the second quarter. Even funnier if it was the first quarter.

Cool to hear about y'all's kids.

My daughter had a similar experience.

She was Business major also(2011 class), and she had five well paying job offers prior to graduating... Her dream job was with Oracle but she was going to need to wait 6 months to get that one as they didn't have openings at the time of her graduating. She took her second choice and when Oracle contacted her 6 months later, she passed on it as she really like where she was and the people that she worked with and for.

If you did well for the company, you got a paid vacation to Cancun for around 5 days every year. She missed the first year by less than 10k in commission so that put a fire under her butt to never let that happen again. After her 5th or 6th time going there, she let the GM of one of the restaurants there sweep her off her feet. They have since moved and she has been living in Cabo now for the last 3 years working remote. Not a bad gig for her (and us!) as it really sucks having to go there to visit...😂

Manny Diaz taking bobcats DC...

Duke hires Texas State's Patke as DC

Pete Thamel,   ESPN  Dec 27, 2023

Duke on Wednesday hired Texas State defensive coordinator Jonathan Patke as the school's new defensive coordinator.

Patke will bring with him both extensive experience with first-year Duke coach Manny Diaz and a similar aggressive ethos to Diaz's defenses.

Patke worked with Diaz at Miami, Mississippi State and Louisiana Tech, starting as a graduate assistant in Ruston and eventually working his way up to being a position coach at Miami and working three seasons as the Hurricanes' special teams coordinator.

Patke's final night as Texas State's defensive coordinator proved to be a memorable one Tuesday. In the first bowl win in school history, Texas State forced five turnovers and shut out Rice in the second half of a 45-21 win in the SERVPRO First Responder Bowl. Texas State coach GJ Kinne led the school to both its first bowl game and win this season.

Texas State entered the day No. 1 overall in the country in tackles for loss, averaging 8.5 per game. That statistic offers a window into the aggression that Duke will play with on defense. Diaz came from his job coordinating the defense at Penn State, which ranked No. 2 nationally behind Texas State in TFLs in 2023.

The hallmark of Diaz's defenses for years has been the aggression, with an emphasis on blitzes and getting opposing offenses off balance and behind the chains.

Patke learned that along the way, including six seasons in various roles at Miami. After that, he worked as a defensive coordinator under Kinne at Incarnate Word in 2022 before coming to Texas State with Kinne in 2023.

Patke is a former walk-on at Stephen F. Austin who worked his way to being a three-year starter.
