So how does this effect you aside from the government getting additional revenue without impacting your taxes?

Not directly.  Probably a safe assumption the “billionaire” tax for 100 million spreads.

You are aware of the “temporary” nature of the original Federal Income Tax, correct?

Yes, but for the sake of argument, let's say income tax went away, how would you propose the Federal government raise money?

I haven't thought a lot about it, so I'm curious what alternatives you think would work.

the republican party's primary goal for the last century has been to shove the burden of income taxation down the income/wealth curve to get a sufficient number of poors on board with killing it.  nevermind that they'd absolutely be worse off under any other system capable of remotely funding the government necessary for any post-agrarian economy.

Im not advocating for the abolition of income tax.

i am generally ok with a progressive income tax.  All of the brackets should be raised by income for the rate.  There probably should brackets at higher levels.  All the history indicates having rates above current max rate doesn’t collect any more revenue.

@ChiTownDoc can you pop in here and thank @Incredulity for fighting the good fight for you while you jet between Chicago and Miami? I know you just cut the check between events and keep on livin’, but @Incredulity wants you to know if he ever makes that kind of money, he’ll know he stood the line for you, you Sooner doctor!

I try not to be too big an asshole here but yeah, it’s bizarre how certain people really wanna carry water for the Uber wealthy - those way beyond where I’m at.  I don’t know incredulity’s personal situation so won’t comment there.

All that being said, I get super frustrated seeing people out there voting for what’s in the best interest for billionaires.

Conservatives are the scourge of the earth and the polar opposite of their hero, Jesus.

Bipartisan legislation that was soft.

I’m not sure what Republicans have to do with criminal justice policies and enforcement in Democratic dominated jurisdictions and the crime ridden state that results.

You have no idea whatsoever what was in the legislation. You heard that on some program you watched or listen to that peddles propaganda, and you don’t even realize that.

Crime is a problem everywhere and republicans have done nothing to address it of substance. So they are no better than Democrats.

You really have not provided a good rationale for sticking with the party. I’m not saying you should abandon it. I’m saying you should be more open minded about candidates from the other party and other party policies.

Just curious, where was your experience?  Mine was Czech Republic.

I wait way longer to see specialists here than I ever did there.  Of course, here I get to spend $750 a month in insurance premiums for the privilege of paying $60 a visit, plus hundreds more for tests...and God forbid I need an MRI or worse, surgery.  Maybe my experience was unique, but I had plenty of them, and it was always top notch and my "insurance" was less than $150/month with no co-pays.

Plus you can always add private insurance if you want, by I never needed to.

London with the NHS with a rare, autoimmune disease that was disabling without good treatments.

The US healthcare system is great if you have a shitload of money and can afford fast passes for all your procedures, appointments, etc etc. Try taking care of a parent through a degenerative disease requiring lifelong specialized care, you're gonna get the runaround ad infinitum from your """healthcare providers""" (health insurance) as they hope they can run the clock out on your loved one rather than pay for care.

Isn't that exactly what I said?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t you vote R well into having “made it”. Maybe I’m misremembering but there isn’t many well heeled sooner docs on this site I’d be confusing you with.

Yes, changing your mind when presented with new information is a horrible precedent to set for the GOP

No. I was for Obama and that’s back to my residency.  35k baller.  Definitely no R since.  So actually had only a Bush R vote but I very much believed in trickle down etc a couple decades ago…Was against ‘handouts’ etc until I lived in big cities and saw actual discrepancies in what access different classes of people have to various opportunities.

i really think part of it is that the bible is seen as unchanging, so change is seen as weakness.

At the end of the final day Uncle Sam is taking 40% of everything beyond 13 million. Will revert to 5 million after next year.  After having already paid income tax, property tax, capital gains tax,…..

Further on this.

The estate tax is a factor in wealth consolidation.  It’s very effective at forcing middle market family owned businesses to sell to large corporations with fractional ownership.

Nearly everyone prefers doing business with and working for family owned businesses yet government policy destroys the structure when it reaches a scale to impact larger businesses.
