It seems like the umpires either ignored or didn't know the "would've been out either way" part of the rule because it was buried in the footnote.

I'm assuming the discussion/clarification was just an emphasis on the common sense part of the rule: if the runner is out by 5 feet, the runner is fucking out, there is no obstruction

It does appear to be a better clarification of “it’s the runner was out regardless of there being obstruction or not, she’s out” instead of a buried footnote about umpire interpretation

I predict the “one foot out of the box” reviews will be the new “runner leaving early” reviews that will slow down the game. Every slap hitter is going to have their hits reviewed

was it video reviewed by a remote location?  I can't remember how the video review works.  the call on the field was no obstruction.  the whole "leading edge of the base" thing is stupid.

they use that to try to make something definitive but then they stick in massive grey area anyway.

NCAA softball had a national review center in Pittsburgh for the postseason

The defensive player is not considered obstructing if the player is in possession of the ball

Is this new language?  Seems like this would have applied as well as the clearly out language. unless blocking the leading edge can be called when a runner is only halfway to the base, and they decided that the half second she stepped in the base path before catching the ball constitutd obstruction.

I don't believe that is new language. and you are correct. they decided that the half second she stepped in about 20% of the base path/leading edge, 5 feet from the base, to field the throw, without the ball, constituted obstruction.

Spearman officially to Tech. Glad she visited but west Texas kids grow up in the shadow of Tech. More of a surprise she got away from Snider

25 is the number for the new roster

Assuming nobody entered, and we haven’t heard about any scholarship players entering, our roster is:

SR: Bennett, Maloney (RS), Gutierrez, Goode, Atwood (5)

JR: Martinez (RS), Henry, Kavan, Stewart, Hunter, Ad. Wallace (6)

SO: Brister, Salmon (2)

FR: An. Wallace, Wells, Lawson, Crabtree, Nichols, Sneed, Wilson (7)

If we did indeed get Altmeyer, she puts us at 21 scholarships.

Curious if that is Altmeyer's official announcement or someone else.

Not a lot of big names left in the portal.

Think Maya Johnson or Dakota Kennedy would be the big name?

Think Maya Johnson turned us down for Bama

Johnson's a volume pitcher. And barring a key injury we don't want to consider, Texas couldn't offer her a lot of innings.

Texas is returning 3 of its top 4 pitchers and bringing in Wells. I just don’t see why we’d take a pitcher after Cit decided to stay. And that’s fine

Outfield is set with Altmeyer, Henry and Maloney. Stewie into the IF, so really the final ? of the defensive rotation is who plays 3rd (Lindemuth or freshman)

And of course, who wins the DP spot

So do you think we even offered Johnson? Seems a stretch, given she's such a bellcow and unlike us, a bunch of teams need one.

Hadn't heard she has Lupus, but her 2025 stats are even more amazing in light of that condition.

Maybe we kicked the tires if there were questions about Cit coming back.  If she does end up at Bama, she’s going to be behind Briski, who pitched 166 innings.

Bama had a smaller staff, with two pitchers going 166 and 119 innings. So she’s going to get 100+ easily at Bama. Nobody else at Texas got over 100 innings besides TK and I don’t foresee that changing in 2026.

TK will get the bulk, Cam and Cit will get 80-90 each and Wells probably 60-70ish (what Cam got this year)

Adding a portal pitcher potentially scares off Cambria. Her upside is really high.  Ive never understood the thought process of adding a portal pitcher unless Citaly transfers. You have a clear ace in TK and then 3 talented pitchers behind her.
