Texas Softball 2025 - Sick of Being Second Place

If we win game 1, our second round will be a tough one. We either see our Kryptonite in OU or we get Pickens who made us look like a 12U rec team earlier this year. Is it wrong to hope for a tornado that scoops up both of those teams?

I’d rather face OU bc we did actually do things against their pitching.

If we win game 1 and then lose game 2, we get to switch to the other side of the bracket, where our chances will be higher to make the championship.

I hope White finally frees Katie Cimusz in Game 1. She destroyed the ball in that 13-7 win over Gata, with 2HRs. Of course, most of what gets mentioned about that game is how Falby robbed her of yet another HR. Because everyone knows Florida is real SEC, and Texas isn't.

Plus Devon Park has shorter fences. It’s HR hitter friendly. I think it was 2013 when Kim Bruins was just blasting bombs in OKC

Per Google...

79.4 mph college softball pitch is roughly equivalent to a 111.71 mph baseball pitch. This is based on the shorter distance between the pitcher and batter in softball (43 feet) compared to baseball (60.5 feet). The shorter distance in softball means the ball travels faster to the plate, making a 79.4 mph softball pitch seem like a much faster baseball pitch.

That's fast.

Yes.

Aroldis Chapman.

Aroldis Chapman's fastest pitch was recorded at 105.8 mph. This record-breaking pitch was thrown on September 24, 2010, while he was pitching for the Cincinnati Reds. He also holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest baseball pitch.

You're gonna need a bigger scale!

Softball is no different than baseball. As recently as 10 years ago low 90’s was a good fastball. Now every team has at least one guy who can touch 100. Imagine facing Michelle Smith or Monica Abbott from 40 feet, when they were touching 73 MPH. They don’t need to love the mound back, they need to move the fences back to 230’ minimum. That will stop the half swing HR that have become so common.

Maybe Chuck Yeager.

I don't care how good their infield defense is. If Pickens is dialed in, anyone with even a hint of bunting skill needs to at least try to lay one down. Way better odds than whiffing.

Good opportunity to move the bases 5 feet. Game is too fast now.   Would probably kill base stealing though.

People weren’t hitting Abbott or finch or smith. It was strikeout after strikeout. Hence the move back.

The House settlement is already going to kill schools. Having to redo their infields will be met with resistance

It forced people to play small ball and slappers were more prominent in those days. Used to be “get em on, get em over, get em in”

Now every coaches like Earl Weaver and waits for the 3 run HR.

Right, so make the field larger.   Pitchers pitching mid 70s, hitters hitting it back that hard and harder, but infielders still have to play 45 feet away to be able to field a ground ball and throw a lefty out.

I know it’s not baseball and shouldn’t be made to look more like baseball, but adjustments should be made. You’ve got corner infielders now wearing masks because the ball gets to them so fast.

Alternately, might need to further soften that thing they're hitting. Pillowball, anyone?

With our pitching, we need things to fall our way. Going through a 7 inning 1-0 game vs Tech is the kind of stress TK don’t need right now. I believe Rothrock is gettable and we have shown we can shut down the Glorida bats.

I actually like the way White used the staff a little this weekend.   Wish he would stop trying to get one more out of them but still at least looked willing to all hands on deck it.

What’s that the equivalent of in baseball speed?

I can't find a consistent answer online, but my very rudimentary math converting 79.4 mph to reaction time from 43 feet and then comparing that to a baseball reaction time from 60.5 ft, my answer comes out to about 111 mph.

I'm not sure that's correct, so someone feel free to check my math

You said there’d be no math, but you did well, my friend:

79.4 mph college softball pitch is roughly equivalent to a 111.71 mph baseball pitch…to be exact.

Yeah we didn’t see Rothrock in the SEC opener but we saw her a year ago

Rothrock is a good pitcher, but she is not a lock down ace. Canada and sometimes Pickens are the only aces in OK . TK is as good or better than all the rest. If our offense shows up we can definitely make a run.

The best change was getting rid of illegal pitches via leaps. Worst calls of the game

Now it’s obstruction

Moving the mound, moving the fences, moving the bases all seem like fixing a problem that doesn't exist.

I’d say let’s just have them play in yoga outfits and that’ll solve all the problems

And with the pitch speed conversion charts, is the larger diameter and lower density of the softball a significant factor in how much it slows down in flight due to air resistance, over its shorter time of flight?

a baseball loses like 5 mph from out of hand to the plate. (And some of the increase in baseball pitch speed is due to moving the measurement from near the plate to near the release point)

It's kind of funny how many are picking Florida over us on Thursday.  The funniest reason is "coaching"

Um....

Texas has a 2-1 series win over Florida already this year (7-2, 13-7, 1-3)
Texas spanked the shit out of Florida a year ago in the WCWS, 10-0, and TK didn't pitch.  Mac pitched that whole game

Seems like Walton hasn't outcoached Mike in 3 of the 4 games we have faced them in the last year.

The internet says 4-6mph velocity reduction between pitcher and catcher for a softball. The bigger, lower density softball slows down faster, but traveling a shorter distance vs. baseball; results washout to be about the same.

I have no idea what snake oil Torina is selling, but LSU picked up 2 good transfers in Kylee Edwards and the SDSU pitcher.

Like they watched Berzon transfer after Beth lost a home regional, getting sent home by a 4 seed, and they want to play for that?

Given LSU's hefty NIL baseball budget, is it possible there's also a lot being spent on softball? Relative to other softball teams, I mean.

Could be just mercenaries wanting to make a bag, but you'd think they'd wait until any of the final 8 teams finish their seasons and start reaching out

Because at some point, these are also competitors who want to play for winners.  And Beth is a big loser.

Let's amplify the pain for LSU by landing Berzon and poaching Heavener.

“All we need to win it all is you” sounds like a great point with these athletes that think they’re the greatest.

Walton is an egomaniac who makes it all about him. Outside of dumb base running, white is a better coach

Trina comes across very well in recruiting. Once on campus her locker room turns into a version of mean girls, which she encourages. She is a dad coach and a worse human being.

How tall are the fences at McCombs? I don’t think I've ever heard.
