Bennett should be suspended. Make Florida pay for that shit.

They say the age of the Goons is over.  Hell, he's not even an enforcer.  He's just straight up fucking dirty for no reason other than to take the shot with a multiple incident history of this shit.
If it's supposed to be out of the game, make it so, administratively.  If Florida wants to dabble, then TOR needs to handle it.  There was a day when Derrian Hatcher was dared to protect Modano.  Dude ended up with a broken jaw.  I support that if folks are going to operate that way.

But in the playoffs, retribution like that will get you 5 and a misconduct, possibly a suspension, and that’s usually a recipe for losing that game and not a price teams will want to pay during the series.

Next season though?

I don't have a problem with the league moving away from fighting.  If that is true, however, they cannot stand pat on bullshit like this.

Don't bring back the need for fighting if you proclaim to be against it.

I think the officiating has been really good so far.

The refs haven't been afraid to make calls in the 3rd periods or overtimes so far when there have actually been infractions committed.

An elbow to the goalie's head in the crease, no less.

Refs are gonna miss calls. Understood. However, the same league that waits to see if someone is bleeding to assess a penalty; can't go back and review an infraction that was missed?  We're not talking about holding or cross check, but rather a very serious, preventable play.

i'm the same guy that thinks you should be able to nail the goalie if they possess the puck outside the crease, but that's just my weird thinking.

I am disappointed in league officials. Not the ones directly calling the game.

Through 47 first-round games, there were 307 goals scored for a 6.53 goals-per-game average. If that average held over the next three rounds, the 2024-25 postseason would be the highest scoring playoff since the 1992-93 season (6.84 goals per game).

doesn't seem to matter who is in that position, they are pretty uniformly reviled. I thought Shanahan was a fair arbiter and he got tons of shit.

IIRC most of the shit that Shanny got was for being "too harsh", I personally thought he was great at the position. Parros has been a swing in the complete other direction.

i guess it's a part of the nhl I haven't been plugged into this season as closely as other parts. other than Marchment's shenanigans, the Stars kept their noses clean this season and beyond the hit from Stone on Miro (which I have to believe was unintentional, as ugly and suspect as it was), have been immune from cheap shots the other way too.

He leads with the elbow. That's intentional. It's not a big wide swing at his noggin, but that's where he was aiming for.

Maybe there's a different angle that shows it being more aggressive than it appears in the overhead camera. There's potentially an odd arm movement by Bennett after making contact but that could also be part of him trying to get a loose puck.

Obviously a big chunk of playoff hockey is playing in the grey area of making your presence felt/getting shots in without getting penalized or suspended.  Florida seems to push it further than most teams.  I mean did you see the last seconds of the game last night (once Toronto controlled puck and game was over) and Tkachuk trying to take a cheap shot on Toronto player?  I thought that was bullshit and over the line but typical for that team.  Don't get me wrong - it makes for some entertaining hockey from a neutral observer of the East (as those tactics inevitably lead to retaliation) but kind of makes me pull against them.  Clearly no team is innocent in that respect (including the Stars as Benn will cross the line at times and even Roope uncharacteristically got that but shot in on MacKinnon last series (although retaliation from last years playoff breaking his wrist) but Bennet and Tkachuck, etc. seem to take it to a different level.

Every Tkachuk that’s played in the league has played right up to the line, if not crossed it. I covered several of those Blues/Stars series in the early 2000’s and Keith was chippy AF.

Vegas flat out got their ass kicked last night in the 2nd and 3rd period.   I know they were missing Pietrangelo but was kind of surprised how much Oil's depth lines were able to control play.  I just didn't get to watch too much of either team's first round series but my instinct for this series was the opposite.  That Oil's elite top line had the advantage over the Vegas top line but lines 2-4 for Vegas + goaltending advantage would win games for them.  But it's hard to take advantage of suspect goal tending when you can't get any shots on net (only 7 SOG last 2 periods of the game for Vegas).  Only 1 game but an impressive road win for Edmonton.

Even more I think only 2 of those 7 shots were at 5 v 5. That's just astounding.

I’m stunned that Toronto has a 2-0 lead on Florida but never underestimate the Leafs from being able to faceplant at the most inopportune times. I’m pulling for them though.

Not surprised at Carolina’s G1 showing though.

pretty convinced whoever wins that series is setting themselves up to lose to the winner of TOR/FLA

Florida, for sure, if it can come back to win this series but the Panthers have to win four of five -- with two of those in Toronto -- to make it happen. Who am I kidding? I'd put 50-50 odds on Toronto still losing this series.

All of the other teams up 1-0 in their series have better book odds to win their series than Toronto does up 2-0.  Granted, the others won a road game, but still!
