Leaving in a couple of weeks for 10 days in Copenhagen for work/some fun. Any must-visits?  Doing a couple of excursions into Sweden including the Kullaberg Nature Reserve.

We went to Copenhagen in November 2023 and loved it. It’s a great city to just walk around and take it all in. We stayed at the Hotel Sanders and thought it was great.

Great walking city.

This might be my wife's favorite department store on earth: https://www.illumsbolighus.com/  Great stuff in there, classic Danish designs, not overly expensive.  She has a great pair of wool slippers from there that stay out in our house year round.

For a "michelin star" quality meal that won't set you back, and is truly up there with some of the best meals I've ever had, go to Høst.  Current menu:

Quote
HØST MENU
5 COURSES

Smoked scallops with cucumber and horseradish (+ Caviar 100,-)
Lightly baked cod with green asparagus and trout roe
Creamy potatoes with peas and truffle
Schnitzel of Chicken with morrels and white asparagus
eller
Beef tenderloin with madagascar pepper and white asparagus (+125,-)
eller
Grilled lobstertail with lobster cream and white asparagus (+150,-)
Rhubarb with cardamom and caramel

500 dkk

That price = $75 per person.  It's an insane deal.

Hit up the Torvehallerne for porridge at the Grød booth and smorrebrod for lunch/snack one day.

Little Mermaid statute is overrated.  Go see it anyway, make fun of it.

Nyhavn is overdone.  Go anyway, you need to see it, and it's a neat walk down the harbor.

Go to Rosenborg castle, the grounds and park are beautiful this time of year.  And there's a room/display in there of some prince's kinky sex room.

Is Tivoli Gardens just an amusement park?  Yes....but it's kinda a thing, and we enjoyed it.

I've only been in winter, but we loved Copenhagen.

Agree with Brisket - Little Mermaid statue is overrated, but it's a nice stroll by the water.  Tivoli was fun just to do. Rosenborg is cool, we also liked Frederiksborg a lot

Our Little Mermaid photo is a family favorite.  There was a cold, driving rain, ultra shitty day.  But you "have to see it."  So, we took a cab...I paid him to wait while we jumped out, took a photo with all of us grimacing and getting soaked with the statue behind us, and hopped back into the cab.  Cabbie just shook his head as we all laughed, and headed out to a nice, warm dinner.

It was 33 and windy as fuck with the wind coming off the very very cold Baltic Sea when we did it

Going to the Little Mermaid statue is like going to the SRV statue.  I mean, its fine and all but, you know.  Its fine.  Love SRV... don't @ me

I remember enjoying going out to Kronoberg Castle - easy train ride.

Here's a weird suggestion - https://www.warpigs.dk/ - met a friend who was living in Copenhagen.  Just go enjoy it for what it is without the real Texas lens.

It’s touristy but just walking along the canals  is fun. If you’re into it, I also kayaked along the canals, it offers a view of the city from a different perspective. Also all the great modern architecture.

I really liked exploring Christiania. Donda is a great restaurant there. Got to know the chef and it was initially a Mexican inspired seafood place. But now it’s Indian I think. As you can imagine he mixes technique with local ingredients.

I’m a huge coffee nerd, so I was geeking out trying out all the craft breweries/roasters. Oh and beer, lots and lots of good beer.

GF's  mom was born there, and there's still quite a bit of family there, so we intend to go in the next year or two.  Bookmarking this thread.

1. Royal Copenhagen porcelains

2. This box of sewing kit
