friday 7 november - fly to jump off point

friday 14 november - fly home (or to atlanta if you have somehow finagled tickets between the hedges)

the design of the itinerary allows anyone who chooses to do so to peel off early to fly home as early as tuesday 11 november - but i guarantee you will not want to do that if you can go the distance

this itinerary includes missing 100% of college football on saturday 8 november - this can change if the outbound flying day is moved forward to thursday 6 november by consensus

this itinerary is strenuous by design - there is zero camping but there are two (2) hikes of 90+ minutes each on the first 3 days - you can skip them and still get a huge bang for the buck - if you take the hikes nigel tufnel is guaranteed to grade the trip an 11

this itinerary is dense and precise - if you are a leisurely traveler you don't want to form a squadron with the admiral

it is a one-way drive unless you want a 6-hour drive to get back to the jumpoff - one-way rentals are expensive

this also means open-jaw plane tickets - fly to someplace, fly home from someplace else - sometimes this can be more expensive

what this itinerary accomplishes in 6 days takes most people two weeks minimum at 3x the cost

and finally, if you have kids, they will get more out of this trip then they will in every summer camp before they reach puberty - fuck school for a week - however this is not a kids-only event - everyone is welcome because it will be a self-driving caravan unless we get enough people willing to increase the cost to charter a von lane bus (i have the number and it's $$$$$$$)

yes - this trip is inside the united states

This excursion seems rather vague on location details other than the hiking mention. Is it a visit to @CleverNickname's place?

I got to thinking. Lots of people think about digging a hole (maybe?). I have property where a guy could build a hole. And sure about 16 inches down it becomes partially cemented caliche. But only partially. I own a San Angelo bar. And I don't think I will hit a big layer of solid limestone. I saw them dig a septic ta k, and it never had a big problem. So not only could I dig a hole, but that hole could be dug.

Picked a spot.

Started digging. Off with the grass.. Old scrap cedar 2x of the approximate size for frame of reference. Once I'm down a ways the goal is to be 2.5x4 ft clear with sets made from 4x6s. Or maybe steel panels. It sure yet. I figure I've got plenty of back breaking labor before I have to decide.

My helper. I told him I was going to dig a hole. He's in. One day he will inherit my hole. Our hole.

Only got about 2 hours of labor in the hole. Hoping to go back out soon and get it all squared up and dug to the harder layer. Then it will be time for my cheap electric jackhammer.
