Maybe that was the point, but it was just a terrible movie, poorly told. 130 minutes of shit and then it turns into multiple poorly done movie cliches at the end. Before that the story was all luck and coincidence and absurd plot points. The soundtrack for some reason leaned on 80s pop for a film set in the 50s. Even that was dumb. There wasn't anything interesting about it. Nothing. Except maybe George Gervin's cameo. As a Spurs fan that was legitimately the only redeeming thing about the film.I went in knowing nothing. They could have made it a sports movie, which I thought it may have been, about a table tennis player and it could have been great. The wife wanted to see this one. I now get to choose the next 5 movies minimally, just based on how shitty this choice was. What you wrote pretty much was our conversation on the drive home. The music never fit, there is nothing that makes you care about any of the characters outside of possibly Endo, and we did find ourselves guessing if that truly was George Gervin and who played the farmer who found the dog. I truly believe this is a perfect example of people not wanting to call out total shit of a movie because of who made it, starred in it etc.....
December 28, 2025Dec 28 Rewatched Scream again and barely noticed that Kenny the Cameraman who got shit from Courtney Cox was also Warren in There’s Something About Mary.
December 28, 2025Dec 28 Nobody 2 was totally predictable and totally fun. Watch it after and with a few drinks. The fight choreography is excellent with some slapstick.
December 28, 2025Dec 28 Ok - Marty Supreme. We liked it but didn’t love it. It’s def the kind of movie - A24 types will appreciate and more casual movie goers will be like “WTH was that even about?” If you like Safdie’s other stuff you know what you are in for I think. TC is a superstar and will get an Oscar nom.Somewhere around a 6.5/7 out of 10 for us. WTF was the honey scene?
December 28, 2025Dec 28 I thought Marty Supreme was great — particularly the performances of Chalamet, Paltrow, and yes Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary. Also loved the music and score. But, not surprised that it won’t be for everyone.I’m guessing y’all who hated it felt the same way about Uncut Gems?I love that one too, but this movie and protagonist were silly and fun in comparison and I definitely felt that while watching.
December 28, 2025Dec 28 I started watching Uncut Gems and bailed after about 30 minutes, so I guess I shouldn’t even bother with Marty Supreme
December 28, 2025Dec 28 We have tickets to see Marty Supreme on the 31st after a boozy lunch. Wife and I are both A24 dorks and loved Uncut Gems so hopefully Marty Supreme doesn’t suck.
December 28, 2025Dec 28 Marty Supreme is about an underdog that’s not particularly likable and a fairly shitty human being. And there is no redemption arc to speak of. If you think a protagonist needs to be mostly a good guy this movie is not for you.

Have read and talked about people who described all the tension at the end and the only tension to me was for it to get over so I could go piss because I didn't care what happened to Sandler's character. Multiply that by a factor of 10 for Marty Supreme for my family and I. I have no idea how in the world one could perceive the protagonist as silly or fun. Fuck the most fun guy is this piece of shit is his playing partner who had a sense of humor about the world and I mean the one with the ink and not the cab. I won't say anymore not to spoiler it, but this feels like a PTA or Wes movie were some people are never going to say they don't like it because they don't want to be perceived as not being in on the joke so to speak. Seinfeld terms they don't want to be seen as Elaine when she didn't understand the cartoon in the New Yorker.

Won't go into Marty because others have to still see it, but you don't have to like a character to appreciate them or become invested in their character.Take this guy for example:

Lector is so likable they invented a sympathetic backstory for him. That’s not what Marty is supposed to be, and Chalamet (whom I am not particularly a fan of) nails it IMO

Greeks, Romans, Shakespeare, a few other cultures and others, hell how many comic storylines are built around unlikeable protagonist, but gives us a reason to give a fuck as I said before I really can't find many people or reasons to give a fuck in this story.Maybe I am just artistically stunted, but I feel at times with similar movies some come across as Tom and Jean Rafio picking shades of black for Lii' Sebastian Memorial Ceremony.

The consequences, intended and unintended, are extremely interesting to me, and I honestly didn’t find a single character uninteresting. Also, a glimpse of Japan trying to find its national identity as it was emerging from US occupation was interesting IMO. Throw in the seemingly incongruous 80’s music (Marty is a man ahead of his time), and the whole thing works.
December 29, 2025Dec 29 Griffin in summer… an awkward, endearing, coming out story of a young teen. On a best films of 2025 you probably haven’t seen list.
December 29, 2025Dec 29 Rear Window starring Grace Kelly. Jimmy Stewart is also in this movie, but I didn't notice him much.Grace Kelly is stunning and Jimmy can't stop looking at neighbors out his rear window, even though Grace Kelly is traipsing about his apartment.
December 29, 2025Dec 29 Just saw the anaconda reboot this weekend, was fantastic and fun as hell. Probably a top 3 movie for me of 2025.
December 29, 2025Dec 29 Watched Uncut Gems for the first time yesterday. Liked it a lot and didn't really expect the ending. I don't think I'd ever heard of Julia Fox before but I thought she was as good as Sandler. Bummer she dated Kanye.

December 30, 2025Dec 30 Watching True Romance again. Man what an all-star cast. Slater, Arquette, Walken, Gandolfini, Hopper, Pitt, S Jackson, nuts.

By the same director as A Simple Favor and it kind of reminded me of that one too. I went in expecting Seyfried and Sweeney to look hot and it delivered in that regard.Seyfried’s acting in this was pretty good. Sweeney was, well, she did what her fans want to see. She got naked and that’s about it. Her acting in Christy and Eden was actually good. The only part of this where her acting was above par was when she was angry in the 2nd half of the film. I hope for her sake she finds some way to be in movies where she doesn’t have to get naked for anyone to show up and watch it because hoo boy she is not going to age well.

We both liked it quite a bit, but agreed that it could have easily been 30 minutes shorter.

I did enjoy the movie. It was funny and it did what it was supposed to do. I like Jack Black and Paul Rudd. It was a stupid fun movie, but fun nonetheless.
