Always interesting to remember the context/era in which senior Russian officials grew up in.

"Russia and we are like two boxers in the 12th round." - Biletskyi, commander of the 3rd Army Corps. He notes that for the first time, the Russian army is failing to replenish its losses - more soldiers are being knocked out than new ones are arriving. Furthermore, they face a catastrophic situation regarding weaponry, including armored vehicles, artillery systems, and other equipment.

Footage of the destruction of a Russian assault column near Dobropillia by the 1st Separate Assault Regiment. The state of the equipment is worth noting: these no longer even resemble tanks - they are true Frankensteins, crudely welded together by their crews, only to be dismantled piece by piece by FPV drones. A genuinely desperate army.

More on the Ukrainians retaking it. Putin was trying to use it as background leverage in the peace talks, like “you better give us what we want because we continue taking your land” and if this holds up, it’s going to be fucking huge in the coming weeks and months.

Russian sources are widely confirming the loss of the terrorist army’s control over the city of Kupiansk a month after Putin claimed it was taken. A lengthy analytical piece was published by Rybar, awkwardly titled “Problems near Kupiansk”. The layout can be seen in the screenshot. Some Russian sources are even more blunt, while security-service-curated million-subscriber channels, on the contrary, are trying to tone down the negativity.

Russia didn't lose Kupiansk.  They just ran out of time.

Fixed it.

400,000 killed and wounded per year over the last two years seems bad.

Russians played us again.  At least more Senators from the Foreign Repations Committee are coming around on this.

“We condemn Russia’s brutal attacks on Kherson, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Sumy, Donetsk and Kryvyi Rih waged on innocent Ukrainians as they convened to mark the birth of the Prince of Peace with their loved ones and in prayer.

“It bears repeating that President Zelenskyy agreed to a Christmas truce, but Putin declined, yet he directs soldiers to continue to commit brutal crimes of aggression on one of Christianity’s holiest days.

“Even for countries at war, there is a long history of Christmas ceasefires, including notably during World War I. Today’s decision by Putin to launch attacks rather than hold fire is a sobering reminder for us all: Putin is a ruthless murderer who has no interest in peace and cannot be trusted.

“We stand with the people of Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Kherson and Donetsk marking the birth of Christ under the most challenging of circumstances. Ukrainians’ faith is a stronger force than the evil unleashed today by the Kremlin.”

Kremlin propagandist Sladkov proudly presents what looks like T-72 tank in “Dandelion” modification, that is, a tragic art form with welded on scrap metal, a sad confession that the self proclaimed second world army has no answer to modern battlefield realities. “Legendary 9th Brigade”, he says, apparently unaware he’s documenting desperation.

If there's anything I've learned from russian camwhores over the years, it's that soviet Christmas is in 2 weeks.

Turkey shot down a Russian surveillance drone with an F-16 Sidewinder missile after three separate incursions violated Turkish airspace in days. One Orlan-10 crashed just 50 km from Istanbul; debris from a Merlin reconnaissance drone was found in western Turkey near defense industry sites.

The pattern points to deliberate surveillance, not navigation errors - Russia is tracking Ukrainian naval drone activity and shipping movements as it loses control of the Black Sea. But Turkey isn't absorbing these violations passively like other NATO members.

Ankara is signaling that continued incursions could trigger restrictions on Russian shipping through the Bosphorus. The consequences would be severe: Novorossiysk handles roughly 20% of Russia's oil exports, and grain shipments from southern ports would collapse. Alternative Baltic and Pacific routes can't compensate.

Russia's expanding drone operations to compensate for its Black Sea losses may be creating a much bigger problem - one that costs nothing to strike but everything to lose.

Ukraine and Russia peace talks are proceeding furiously, but going nowhere, mostly because the Trump administration is trying to make this a rush job and has neglected all the important details.

Steve Witkoff has been the lead on these negotiations, but with no foreign policy experience, we're getting the kind of results you would expect. The pattern looks something like this: Witkoff meets with Ukraine or Russia, he's force-fed propaganda, he regurgitates that back to the White House, a fantastic new deal (aka a one-sided propaganda piece) is written up, the other side rejects it, and the pattern repeats itself.

We're seeing deals being drafted that completely ignore the redlines established by either side, so it's quite clear that these peace talks aren't going anywhere, anytime soon.

Unbelievable that our country could afford the effort and expense involved in saving Kuwait and Saudi Arabia's asses from Saddam Hussein and now not give a damn about saving Ukraine from a terrorist like Putin.

To Prez, this remains one of best community notes of all time. To prove we can’t be beaten, comrade @MattWallace888 tweets a picture of 5 of our warships, 4 of which have been sunk. The remaining is probably now out of action.

We started this war with 13 Ropucha class ships. We have 5 left.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/12/27/russia-ukraine-war-list-of-key-events-day-1402

  1. A blaze ignited by a Ukrainian drone attack at Russia’s Azov Sea port of Temryuk has been extinguished, a local task force said. Temryuk port handles LPG, oil products and petrochemicals, as well as grain and other bulk food commodities.

  2. Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed that during the past week its forces had downed seven British-made Storm Shadow missiles, Russian news agencies reported.

  3. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of using ordinary apartment blocks on the territory of its ally Belarus to attack Ukrainian targets and circumvent Kyiv’s defences. “It is unfortunate that Belarus is surrendering its sovereignty in favour of Russia’s aggressive ambitions,” Zelenskyy said.

  4. Poland deployed fighter jets to intercept a Russian reconnaissance aircraft flying near its airspace over the Baltic Sea and said dozens of aerial objects – believed to be balloons used by smugglers – approached its airspace from Belarus overnight, warning that the separate incidents during the holiday season may signal a provocation by Moscow.

  5. Moscow is likely stationing new nuclear-capable hypersonic ballistic missiles at a former airbase in eastern Belarus, a development that could bolster Russia’s ability to hit European targets, two United States researchers have found by studying satellite imagery, according to an exclusive Reuters news agency report.

  6. The American researchers said reviews of the Planet Labs imagery revealed a hurried construction project that took place between August 4 and 12 and showed features consistent with those of a Russian strategic missile base, the report added.

Russia attacked Kyiv today with heavy bombardment. Hot take: Trump lured Zelensky to the US so Putin can do this and Trump can punish Zelensky for “losing” and try to again force him to surrender.

I figure it’s Putin clowning Trump some more, but also Putin is massively embarrassed that his two recent “successes” were fake and Ukraine is taking/has taken those cities back (Kupyanks and Pokrovsk). There are Russian forces surrounded in and around Kupyansk as well and they aren’t going to be rescued. And Putin was lied to by his generals as well as Ukrainian intelligence fooling Russian commanders

There is also the bigger problem for Putin that Russia is not able to match the losses in Ukraine with replacement forces. That happened within the last week or so. Sending fewer troops to the front than you’re losing is not sustainable, and Kupyansk and Pokrovsk are being used to chew up Russian forces and vehicles at a crazy rate.

So Kyiv is going to get hammered a lot more going forward probably.
