  1. I'm not sure when they started this ring ceremony, but it's turned into a pretty big event. Rings spent the night in the lit tower and then some sort of celebration today with the band, cheerleaders, and probably some speechifying.
  2. That's good news, ztejas. I didn't do a 12-step program, but I suspect its best having a sponsor with no previous relationship. My mother was a recovering alcoholic, around 40 years when she passed last year, and she had a lifelong friendship with the sponsor she met at her first AA meeting. One day at a time and the serenity prayer are two very helpful and impactful contemplations.
  3. Just want to say that lifeguarding is not necessarily the easy way. My oldest lifeguarded for one summer and didn't want to do it again. She took it very seriously and didn't like the weight of potentially having to perform life saving measures.
  4. I was last there in July 2022. Got there before 5:00 and was about 65th in line. They started serving at 7:35 and I was eating by 9:00. BTW, here is the thread with all of the info on Texas BBQ Joints.
  5. There are plenty of teams in and around Round Rock. Some are neighborhood specific like the Avery Ranch Redfish some are open at all like the Brushy Creek Marlins.
  6. If Dead Poets Society was released today it would be The Holdovers.
  7. I saw a guy break a table in half just slapping the bone down.
  8. I was quite concerned that the nerd on the other end was going to win yesterday. I audibly cheered when she out wagered him.
  9. I took some human sexuality class in undergrad. One girl asked the teacher if there was anything, heath wise, wrong with swallowing. Classroom looked just like that picture.
  10. You could try Victorians Barbecue in Mart if you are going Th-Sat. I have a review up thread which was not great. However, another poster had good experience with them at another location. I'd love to hear another review - it could have been a bad day the one time I went.
  11. Here is the cell phone contract I had my kids sign:

I think I followed some steps from this article last year.
  13. He still sounds great. We saw him in the early 90s playing with Elton John at the Alamodome. Glass Houses was one of my first albums.
  14. We often split 2 or 3 meat plates. I usually get coleslaw unless the place uses a sweet dressing. Half of the tater tot casserole and half of the Brussel sprouts were taken home. I think a good vinegar based slaw balances the fattiness of the meats. I make and keep serrano slaw dressing and shredded cabbage at the house which makes an easy addition to complete meals.
  15. How much of it, if any, has to do with him not being the focus of attention? I often see kids going to great lengths to get or keep parents attention in situations where the parents are interacting with others. Not sure if that is the case or not, but it might be worth exploring.
  16. Watched Argylle last night - star-studded spy comedy. It was entertaining. Sam Rockwell is good in anything.
  17. Had another decent meal at Stiles Switch in Cedar Park. Brisket, pork ribs, jalapeño slaw, Serrano fried Brussel sprouts, chessy tater tot casserole, and smoked Buffalo wings. Not outstanding like many of the top places, but it's nice to be able to get good barbecue on a Saturday night when everyone else has already closed. Saved one slice of brisket for breakfast and most of the wings to eat later today during the Austin FC match.
  18. I always focus on the rhythmic thumping sound. Once I fell asleep.
  19. There is a similar and potentially related subconscious process that was discussed in one of my psychology classes. It has to do with how a person attributes another persons actions as compared to their own. For example: the person in front of you doesn't hold the door for you - you attribute it to a personality flaw (inconsiderate, etc.); whereas, if you don't hold the door for the next person - it is something situational (hands are full, etc.). It's called Fundamental Attribution Error.
  20. Interstellar BBQ on 620 is really good (Texas Monthly #2 in 2021) and should be right on your way.
