Word is Eric Bienemy is about to be hired as our OC.  I know he has a bit of a rap sheet and a rough personality, but he's OC'd for Reid and is respected as an offensive mind.  I think he's what we need for our inexperienced head coach.

EB better reign in the abusive intensity or ucla cfb players will destroy his reputation further.  EB had a real chance to advance his resume with Washington and he really struggled.

I thought EB might go back to KC...

EB can run an offense, but let’s be real here, he was running Andy’s offense in KC. Painfully obvious on the transition to Washington, where he struggled wholeheartedly.

And now he’s looking to move laterally from the NFL to college. What’s that say about the opportunities he’s been offered?

Maybe they can get Belichick as DC, lol

It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out.

So you saw Wash’s offense last year and think you want some of that?

I dunno, but hope for good things for y’all. Recent streak hasn’t been so good.

I think most offenses with Sam Howell at QB would look pretty shitty.

Even Saban had to severely cut back on the dictatorial attitude the last couple years given the options available to players.  Has Bieniemy shown any awareness that his current tough guy bullshit isn't going to work anymore?

That question will be answered when Deon leaves Colorado.

Might be a great hire...  @Sbbruin

UCLA reportedly bringing former Bruins All-American back to coach linebackers

Robert Thomas was a standout linebacker for the Bruins from 1998-2001, and was a teammate of new UCLA head coach DeShaun Foster.

According to a report from 247 over the weekend, Thomas is set to join the staff as linebackers coach.  He most recently coached at some of the top high school programs in the state.

Thomas, who was an All-American in his final year with the program and went on to an eight-year career in the NFL, ahs spent time coaching linebackers at both Santa Ana Mater Dei (CA) and Mission Viejo HS (CA).

In 2015, while Jim Mora was the head coach of the Bruins, Thomas had a role with the program as a student assistant.

The addition of Thomas pairs him with defensive coordinator Ikaika Malloe, defensive line coach Tony Washington, corners coach Kodi Whitfield and safeties coach Brian Norwood to round out the defensive side of the ball heading into Foster's first season.

Not happy about having to hire a second receivers coach, Shane Beamer takes aim at former assistant James Coley

Coley left the Gamecocks after a few weeks for an opportunity to be the receivers coach at Georgia.

DOUG SAMUELS         MAR 2, 2024

Shane Beamer and James Coley worked on Kirby Smarts initial Georgia staff together back in 2016 and 2017, but it was evident at his press conference yesterday that Beamer didn't expect to lose Coley to a rival SEC program so soon after bringing him in.

But when Smart and Georgia offered Coley the opportunity to return to Athens and work with their receivers, the veteran college assistant jumped at the opportunity.

Judging from Beamer's tone and comments yesterday, he wasn't happy about having a second press conference to introduce yet another receivers coach.

Feeling some type of way about it still, Beamer seemed to take a parting shot at Coley.  “I didn’t think we’d be here again introducing a wide receivers coach, but it is what it is," he opened by saying.

"The previous receivers coach made a decision that he felt was best for his family. We collected the $450k, and then-some, for him leaving, and then it allowed us to go out and hire an even better wide receivers coach in my mind, and that's not a knock on anybody, but that's how I feel about this guy right here."

Beamer, talking about the hire of Limestone (D-II - SC) head coach and NFL veteran receiver Mike Furrey, admits that he didn't try to talk with Furrey the first time around because he "knew what he wanted to do with the position with some staff shuffling."

"Now that we had an actual search for a wide receivers coach it was a great opportunity to bring someone else in to make us better."

Hear Beamer's full comments in the clip.

Eye roll. Beamer would leave tomorrow for the right opportunity.

That will never come.  He'll fail at South Carolina, fired a game or two within .500, and hopefully we'll neve hear his name again.

Yeah Bieniemy bringing in Juan Castillo for OL

"Two days after his hire was officially announced, Bieniemy is bringing a former Washington Commanders assistant with him to Westwood, according to a report Monday from The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman.  Juan Castillo, who has spent 16 of the past 17 years as an NFL assistant coach, will replace Bruins offensive line coach Tim Drevno, according to the report."

Yikes, what a motley crew of reject coaches.

Sorry, @Sbbruin, looks like you could be in for a rough 2024 season.

Corey Dennis takes his third job of the offseason, this time on the field at Tulsa

Quote

When last we saw former Ohio State quarterbacks coach Corey Dennis, he was on the move from Salt Lake City to Oxford after leaving his job as an analyst at Utah for the same job at Ole Miss.

He's on the move again, this time to Northeast Oklahoma.

Tulsa on Tuesday announced Dennis as its new quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator. Dennis and Golden Hurricane head coach Kevin Wilson worked together for six seasons at Ohio State, and sources say Dennis was Wilson's top target to fill the opening on his offensive staff.

Dennis replaces offensive line coach Ryan Stanchek, who took a co-coordinator job on Scotty Walden's new UTEP staff. Tight ends coach Greg Frey will move to offensive line, and offensive coordinator Steve Spurrier, Jr., will move from quarterbacks to running backs.

Running backs coach Adrian Mayes will now coach tight ends and serve as run game coordinator, while wide receivers coach Ryan Switzer will remain in that spot while adding recruiting coordinator responsibilities.

On defense, Dominique Franks has been promoted from a quality control to cornerbacks coach. A former Tulsa Union High School standout, Franks played at Oklahoma before his 5-season NFL career. Franks replaces Michael Hunter, who took a GA job at Ohio State.

UCLA was good for a top 15-20 every few years in the p10/12, they will struggle bus like Indiana or Rutgers going forward in the new conference. They will bring tier 2 sports and Olympic sports to the table of course, but that’s not a money maker.

At least ucla will have much better home game crowds when the B10 fans travel to watch their teams play ucla.

Is there a worse stadium for home field advantage in the country?

I mean, who chooses to have their stadium 30 miles from campus?

City school problems. Pitt, Miami, and NC State have a less dramatic version of the same issue, USF does as well for the moment, and Tulane only solved theirs recently.

Ive always thought being a pro team in Vegas would not have a good home field advantage.

The money maker isn't in the sports, it is in the TV market that the B1G milks out of the regions for cable access - primarily the B1G Ten network (which sucks - in case you need a hint)

So much this. Rutgers and Maryland meant one thing, East Coast tv sets. Now they've added West Coast tv sets. That is all that matters in the big picture and why the SEC will ultimately have to expand the footprint to keep the dollars even.

Yeah - if the B1G want to have a national presence then they will need to add some southern schools - could be Clemson, Florida St, a random Florida directional, somebody in Texas (Houston (puke), TCU/SMU, Georgia Tech (would be a good fit - when academics mattered).
What really needs to happen is for someone (Saudi PIF - another puke) to pay big buck to split football from the current conferences - history & tradition don't matter a shit anymore, show me the money$$$.

Arizona State adding Super Bowl winner Hines Ward to coaching staff

ZACH BARNETT     12 HOURS AGO

Two-time Super Bowl champion Hines Ward is joining Arizona State's coaching staff as wide receivers coach, according to multiple reports on Saturday.

Ward is set to replace Ra'Shaad Samples, who left his post as ASU's wide receivers coach and pass game coordinator to coach running backs at Oregon.

Ward caught 1,000 passes on the dot across a 14-year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers that concluded in 2011. He made overtures to enter college coaching as far back as 2016, and entered the profession as an intern with the Steelers in 2017.

One of top high school programs in the country moves on from head coach after state title season

He spent 2019-20 as an offensive assistant with the New York Jets, and 2021 as Florida Atlantic's wide receivers coach. Ward also served as the short-lived Alliance of American Football's head of football development.

Ward worked most recently as the head coach of the XFL's San Antonio Brahmas, but was not retained as part of the XFL/USFL merger.
